Mr. Adair was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945, he was a member of the VFW, Moose and a seven year resident of the Kern Valley.

A memorial service was con- ducted Saturday, April 7 at Lorenzen Mission Chapel in Reseda for Deanna Cauley of Bakersfield. Deanna passed away April 2 in Mission Hills, the result of an auto accident in Lake Isabella on Feb. 25.


Surviving are two daughters, Susan and Kristin; two sons, Terry and Jimmy; her mother Hazel Roseberry of Lake Isabella and two brothers, Lewis and David.


She was employed at Allied Signal-Bendix Oceanics Inc. in Sylmar. She formerly lived in Lake Isabella and was employed at Safeway.


Born Oct. 11, 1941 in Meadville, PA, Deanna was 48 years of age.

Steve Erllen Zackula


A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 1 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Steve Erllen Zackula of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Wayne Bebe of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Zackula was born May 21, 1922 in Wichita, Kansas and died April 28, in Bakersfield. He was 67 years old.


He is survived by his wife, Fern Zackula of Wofford Heights; daughters Stephanna Thomas of Arizona, Judy Brown of Washington and Lori Zackula; sons Phillip Zackula


of Washington, Max Zackula; brothers Milan of Kansas, Roy of Missouri, Jon of California, Walter of Missouri, Gail of Washington, Roger of Kansas and four grandchildren.


Mr. Zackula was a 15-year resi- dent of the Kern Valley. Inter- ment will be at the U.S. National Cemetry in Riverside.

Paul Gia


Services were held at Doughty- Calhoun-O'Meara Mortuary in Bakersfield on Tuesday, May 1 for Paul Gia, 71, who passed away April 27 in Bodfish. The Rev. E.F. "Bud" Frye officiated.


Mr. Gia was born in Redding and had resided in Kern County for the past 65 years. He was a retired carpenter and for the past 18 years had been an avid golfer and enjoyed working in his garden and cooking. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, a life member of the Druids Lodge and a member of the VFW.


Survivors include his wife, Marie; son, Steve of Reno; daughters Kathy and Pat Philley, Tina and Scott Bohannon, all of Bakersfield; brother Pete of Tor- rance; sister Minnie Molinaro of Bakersfield; four grandchildren, Paul, Luke, Marie and Scott Jr.


Private interment will be in Kernville.

Robert Ray Stivers


A memorial service was held Tuesday May 1 at the Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge for Robert Ray Stivers of Lake Isabella. Of- ficiating were officers of the KRV Masonic Lodge of Kernville.


Mr. Stivers is survived by his daughter Dessie DeLaney of Valencia; sons Robert Thomas Stivers of Santa Fe New Mexico, Michael William Stivers Bennett of Washington and brother Bill Stivers of Washington.


Mr. Stivers was born May 5, 1926 in Lawrenceville, Illinois and died in Mt. Mesa on April 29. He was 63 years old and a 12 year resident of the Kern Valley. In- terment will be at the U.S. Na- tional Cemetery in Riverside, Ca.

Kay Haynes


Kay Haynes died at Colonial Convalescent Hospital in Bakersfield on May 3. She was born in Terra Alta, West Virginia in 1898 and was 91 years old. She was a resident of Fairview for the past 25 years.


Mrs. Haynes is survived by two granddaughters, Janet Griffith of Los Osos and Dorothy Todd of Seattle, also several great grand- children. She is also survived by three nieces, Oliva Hosford of San Francisco, Mary Ritchey of Los Osos and Dorothy Wor- thington of Fairview.


Interment will be in the family plot in San Luis Obispo. Crema- tion arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Martin Sommer


A memorial service was held Saturday, May 5 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Martin Sommer of Wofford Heights. Officiating were officers of the KRV Masonic Lodge.


Mr. Sommer was born May 14, 1913 in New Jersey and died April 30 in Mt. Mesa. He was 76.


Mr. Sommer is survived by his daughter Leslie Chapman of Romeland, CA; grandsons Keith Huffman of CA, Rick Mayo of CA, Dave Mayo of CA, Donnie Mayo of CA and great grandsons Ken- neth Huffman and Christopher Mayo of CA.


Martin Sommer was a member of the Kern River Elks Lodge in Wofford Heights, Kern River Valley Moose Lodge in Lake Isabella and El Segundo Rod and Gun Club in Wofford Heights. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the City of Hope in Duarte, CA. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


Cary Floyd Cunningham


Services were held last month at the Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall for California Highway Patrolman Cary Floyd Cunningham who died April 28 in an off-duty motorcycle accident.


Cunningham was two weeks short of his first year anniversary in law enforcement.


Cunningham, 22, graduated from the California Highway Patrol Academy in May, 1989, and was assigned to the West Los Angeles area.


Cunningham was born Oct. 19, 1967 in Santa Monica. He is sur- vived by his father, Melvin Floyd Cunningham, Jr., currently employed by the Los Angeles Police Dept. and stepmother Sharon; mother Tantaria Cecilia Briggs of Bakersfield; a 4-year old son, Cody of Lake Isabella; and sister Joy and grandparents.


Clifford Harrison Turner


A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 17 at 2 p.m. at the Valley Mortuary chapel in Lake Isabella for Clifford Har- rison Turner of Mt. Mesa. Of- ficiating was pastor Duane Splawn of the Kern River Valley Christian church.


Mr. Turner was born Sept. 29, 1939 in Long Beach and died May 6 in Bakersfield. He was 50 years old.


He is survived by his mother Helen Turner of Mt. Mesa; son Kenneth Turner of Riverside; daughers Teresa White of Lake Isabella, Julie Turner of River- side; brother Michael Turner of Mt. Mesa; 6 grandchildren.

Frances Ruth Keiser


A memorial service will be held today, May 23 at 11 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge in Kernville for Frances Ruth Keiser. Officiating will be officers of the Eastern Star Chapter 643.


Mrs. Keiser was born Nov. 17, 1891 in California and died May 17 in Bakersfield. She was 98 years old.


Mrs. Keiser is survived by her two daughters Venette La France of Weldon and Eunice Corn of Squirrel Valley; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Keiser was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and a 14 year resident of the Kern Valley.

No services are scheduled for Jimmie Windell Hargrove of Lake Isabella. Mr. Hargrove was born Sept. 20, 1933 in Texas and died May 13 in Bakersfield he was 56 years old.


He is survived by his wife Sal- ly Hargrove of Lake Isabella; mother Gladys Tice of Lake Isabella; son Terry Hargrove of CA; brother John Tice of Lake Isabella; sister Jerry Ryan of CA.


Mr. Hargrove was a member of the Moose and Eagles and a 30 year resident of the Kern Valley.

Jess E. Mann, Jr.


A funeral service was con- ducted Wednesday, May 16 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Jess Mann of Bod- fish. Officiating was Rev. David Snow, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Lake Isabella.


Mr. Mann passed away May 14 at home following illness.


He is survived by his wife Carmen of Bodfish; son and daughter-in-law Carl and Genie Mann of San Fernando, grandson Thomas of San Fernando; sister Dorothea Calvert of Henrietta, Missouri; brothers George of New York and Donnie of Pitt- sburg, Kansas.


Jesse Mann was a Korean war veteran of the U.S. Army who received three bronze battle stars as a combat infantry.


He was a member of the KRV Moose Lodge No. 498, American Legion of Chattsworth, Gold Pro- spectors of America, and the Lost Dutchman Assoc.


Born Oct. 10, 1927 in Jasper, Jasper County, Missouri. Jess Emerson Mann, Jr. was 62.


Interment at the Glen Haven Memorial park cemetery, San Bernardino where military honors were rendered at the graveside by American Legion.

Private services were held by the family of Sheila Carson of Weldon. Sheila Carson as born Oct. 1, 1928 in Bury St. Edmonds, England and died May 17 at her residence in Weldon. She was 61 years old.

Bert (Mac) McIntyre


Memorial services were held May 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints in Mt. Mesa for Bert Woodrow McIntyre who was born Jan. 21, 1916 in Price, Utah. He passed away May 22.


Mac was an inventor and designer of machinery and was self employed in Southern Californai for 40 years. He serv- ed his country during WWII in Ireland in specialized service for Lockheed Aircraft Co.


He and his beloved wife Louise retired to the Kern Valley in 1979. He is also survived by his three daughters Sali Perkins, Judy Peterson and Peggy Clark and five sons Pat, Dan, Brett, Mike and Scott Clark. Preceded in death by his son Gerald, brother Leon and sister Barbara Reed. Surviving brothers are Wm G., James R. and Brig. Sisters are Denice Starich, Jean Partridge, Bonnie Isaac, Lavon Plesants and Marge Matich and mother in Iw Beulah Sandberg.


Charley Martha Hundt


A graveside service was held Friday, May 25 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights for Charley Martha Hundt of Lake Isabella. Of- ficiating was pastor David Snow, of the First Baptist Church in Lake Isabella.


Mrs. Hundt was born Sept. 13, 1911 in Whitewright, Texas and died May 21 in Mt. Mesa. She was 78 years old.


She is survived by her husband of 61 years Edward Hundt of Lake Isabella; s on Bill Hundt of Lomita, Ed Hundt of Harbor Ci- ty; sisters Alice Morland of Texas, Nana Mitchell of Texas and four grandchildren.


Minnie Mae Tayles


Minnie Mae Tayles, a resident of Prineville, Oregon, formerly a resident of Kernville, died Thurs- day, May 10 at the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville. She was 76 years of age.


Mrs Tayles was born April 17, 1914 in Tracy, Minnesota. While living in Kernville, she was a member of the Easter Star and Golden Slipper. She moved to Prineville in 1989 and was a member of the Free-Methodist Church in Bend.


She was married to Joseph Tayles on July 21, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1978.


She is survived by three children, Loretta Sanchez, of San Jose; Joel Thomas or Redmond, Oregon and Klaudia Kay Powers of Prineville. She also leaves a brother Kenneth Stevens of Bigs, CA; and eight grandchildren, nine great grandchidlren and seven nieces and nephews.


William Joseph Andreas


A funeral service was held Fri- day, May 25, at the Valley Mor- tuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for William Joseph Andreas of Onyx. Officiating was pastor Charles Smith of the United Methodist Church of Weldon. Interment followed at the Cottage Grove Cemetery in Onx.


Bill Andreas was born Dec. 3, 1958 in Redlands, CA and died May 21 in Mt. Mesa. He was 31 years old.


He is survived by sons Travis Andreas of Florida, Joe Andreas of Oregon, daughter Christine Andreas of Florida; father Jim Andreas of Onyx; brothers Jim- my, Stanley and Louie Andreas of CA; sister Elaine Wolfram of Terra Bella. Bill lived inthe Kern Valley all of his life.

Lake Isabella death under investigation

Authoritles are investigating the cause of an early morning ac- cident in which a Lake Isabella man was killed.


California Highway Patrol of- ficers said Michael Kroeker, 21, was killed about 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 3, after apparently falling from the hood of a car driven by his fiance, Kathy Birkhofer, 18, also of Lake Isabella.


CHP spokesman Rick Odom sald Investigators believe Kroeker was riding on the hood of the 1978 Datsun station wagon driven by


Birkhofer. As Birkhofer pulled into a driveway at 2840 Claire St. in Lake Isabella, Kroeker fell off, Odom said.


Kroeker was pronounced dead at Kern Valley Hospital at 1 a.m. The Kern County Coroner's Of-


fice reported that Kroeker died of "closed blunt force cranial trauma," and that there was no indication that Kroeker had been run over by the vehicle.


Odom said the accident is being investigated by the CHP and the Kern County Sheriff's Department.


A memorial service for Kroeker will be held today, June 6, at 11 a.m. at the Foursquare Church in Wofford Heights.


Kroeker, who also used the name of Forsythe, lived in the Kern Valley with his legal guar- dian and foster parent, Bob For- sythe, for nine years.


Kroeker was to have graduated from adult high school on Friday, June 7. He and Birkhofer had planned to marry this month, and Kroeker was then scheduled to enter the Marine Corps.


Kroeker and Birkhofer have a 6-month-old son, Justin.

Joseph (Bud) Rembach


Joseph (Bud) Rembach passed away June 3 at the age of 72 after a long illness.


Mr. Rembach was born July 23, 1917 in Whiting, Indiana. He came to California in 1952 and worked for Lener Bros. for 18 years. He came to Lake Isabella in 1958. He and his wife Agnes built and operated the Spot Cafe for 19 years, which is now known as El Maya.


Mr. Rembach is survived by his wife Agnes of 51 years of Lake Isabella; daughters Judith Ann Beaumonte of Bend, Oregon; Noreen Nilson of Lake Isabella and Peggy Jo Reider of Ridgecrest; and four grand- children, Fred Nilson of Bakersfield, Johnny McNally of Ridgecrest, Gregory Beaumonte of Bend, Oregon and Kimberly Jo Griffith of Ridgecrest.


Mr. Rembach was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge.


Two streets in Bodfish - Bud Way and Rembach Street, were named for Bud and Agnes.


Forest Loveday


A funeral service was conducted Thursday, May 31 at Bakersfield for Forest Gregory Lovedday of Weldon. Officiating was Mr. Ver- non Gilley of the Church of Christ of Lindsay.


Mr. Loveday was born Nov. 28, 1919 in Milbourn, Oklahoma and died May 26 in Weldon. He was 70 years old.


Mr. Loveday is survived by his wife of 30 years, Martha of Weldon; sons Delbert of Las Vegas, Nev., Ronnie of Brent- wood, Ca; brothers Lloyd of Kan- sas, Dewy of Arizona; sisters Vergie Owens of Arizona, Ineza Wheeler of Oklahoma; 8 grand- children and 5 great-

Mr. Loveday was a member of the VFW and served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946.

A private mass was held for John Chales Cannone of Lake Isabella. Mr. Cannone was born in New York Oct. 21, 1928 and died June 2 in Mt. Mesa. He was 61 years old.


He is survived by his wife of 42 years Rose Cannone of Lake Isabella; sons John Robert Can- none of Downey, Greogry Can- none of Chino, brother Frank Cannone of New York, Raymond Cannone of New Jersey, Frank Delbene of Florida and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Nisewander was born Ju- ly 25, 1928 in Illinois and died June 1 at her residence In Weldon. She was 61 years of age.


She is survived by her sons Gregory Nisewander of Oildale, Douglas Nisewander of Buena Park, Roland Nisewander of Fullerton; daughters Virginia Murphy of Lancaster, Selma Gautrezux of Norwalk, Barbara Banks of Lakewood; sisters Ruby Wheeler of Illinois, Beulah Hunt of Illinois, Deliah Patton of Il- linois, Emy Nye of Illinois and 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mrs. Nisewander was a 27 year resident of the Kern Valley.

No services were scheduled for Rose Mary Holte of Bodfish. Mrs. Holte was born Feb. 27, 1927 and died in Bakersfield on June 7. She was 63 years old


She is survived by her husband Willard of Bodfish and children.

Services were held Monday, June 18 at the Family Life Center in Wofford Heights for Isabel Helen Powers who passed away June 14 in a Bakersfield Con- velescent Home.


She is survived by her sons, Marvin and Bob, who both reside in the Kern River Valley. She is also survived by nine grand- children and 19 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, two sons, William and Charles and two grandsons, Thomas and William.


Isabel resided in the Kern River Valley since her marriage to Marvin in 1919, except for the time she spent in the conveles- cent home. She was an active member of the Methodist Church in Weldon and helped her hus- band on their cattle ranch in Weldon.

Graveside services were held Thursday, June 21 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wof- ford Heights for Violet May O'Driscoll of Onyx. Officiating was pastor John Carpenter of the First Church of the Nazarene of Lake Isabella.


Mrs. O'Driscoll was borrn Oct. 7, 1905 in Maysville, Oklahoma and died June 17 in Bakersfield. She was 84 years old.


She is survived by her brother Ray W. Setser of Dolores, CO; nephew Donald Setser of Dolores, CO; half sister Velma Harting of Oklahoma; nieces Christine Par- rish, Reging Malone of Oklahoma. Violet was a 22 year resident of the Kern Valley.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 20 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Ridgecrest for Richard Dick Parks. Officiating was Ivan Zimmerman.


Mr. Parks was born March 30, 1935 in Dorchester, Nebraska and died in Ridgecrest on June 16, at the age of 55 years. He was a 28-year employee of Vons and he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and was an 18 year resident of Ridgecrest.


He is surived by his wife Maureen Parks of Ridgecrest; mother and father Charles and Deloris Parks of Nebraska; daughter Nicole Parks of Ridgecrest; sister Sheila Kuvohlavr of Nebraska.


Retha Jensen Oakes


A graveside service will be held today, June 27 at 11 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Retha Jensen Oakes of Kernville. Officiating will be Bishop Fred Hartwell of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Mt. Mesa.


Mrs. Oakes was born Dec, 8, 1893 in Richfield, Utah and died June 17 in Bakersfield. She was 96 years old. She is survived by son LaDaire Butler of Boulder, Nevada; daughters Genevieve Bergstrom of Huntington Beach; Gladys Beavers of Kernville; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.


Mrs. Oakes was active in the Auxiliary W.W. I Barracks and a 32 year resident of the Kern Valley.


John Charles Cannone


A private mass was held for John Charles Cannone of Lake Isabella. Mr. Cannone was born in New York Oct. 21, 1928 and died June 2, in Mt. Mesa. He was 61 years old.


He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rita Cannone of Lake Isabella; sons John Robert Can- none of Downey; Gregory Can- none of Chino; brother Frank Cannone of New York, Raymond Cannone of New Jersey, Frank Delbone of Florida and 2 grandchildren.


Anemone "Susie" Yvonne Bailey


A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 20 at the Mt. View So. Baptist Church in Lake Isabella for Anemone "Susie" Yvonne Bailey of Wofford Heights. Officiating was pastor Jerry Corbaley of the Mt. View So. Baptist Church. Interment followed at the Rose Hills, Whit- tier. Officiating at graveside was asst. pastor Robert Deland of Joy Fellowship in Gardena.


Mrs. Bailey was born Sept. 5, 1924 in West Virginia and died June 17 in Mt. Mesa. She was 65 years old.


She is survived by husband of 47 years Paul Bailey of Wofford Heights; sons Paul Bailey, Jr. of San Diego, John Bailey of Gardena; daughter Rebecca Davis of Lawndale; brothers Harry Davis of West Virginia, Ted Davis; sister Betrice Hicks of Florida; and four grandchildren.

OBITUARY


John E. Ballard


A memorial service was con- ducted Monday, July 2 at the Kern Valley Eagles Lodge, Mt. Mesa for John E. Ballard of Lake Isabella. Officiating were officers of KRV Eagles Aerie 3156 FOPE


Mr. Ballard passed away June 24 at home following illness.


He is survived by his daughters Patricia ' Ann Fritcher:« of Gardena, Colleen New of Ohio; brother Highram Ballard, sisters Helen and Ruth; six grand- children and five great- granchidlren.


Mr.Ballard was a member of the Eagles and Moose.
