Jim Fulford
A funeral service was con- ducted graveside Thursday, Aug. 30 at the Kern Valley Cemetery Wofford Heights for James Leonard Fulford of Weldon. Of- ficiating were officers of KRV Post 7665 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Chapter 19 Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Post 711 American Legion, Chapter 54 Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Fulford passed away Aug. 27 at Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Ila "Pat" Fulford of Weldon, her children and grandchildren and brothers residing in Georgia.
Jim Fulford was a 30 year veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in three wars, WW II, Korea and Vietnam. He served mostly aboard destroyers and destroyer escorts in all parts of the world. During his early enlist- ment he was on the Island of Oahu during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Thirty years later, he retired as chief gunners mate. Jim Fulford had been a resident of the Kern Valley for nearly 20 years.

OBITUARY
Friday service set for long time resident
Bernice Robinson Wermuth, 67, of Wofford Heights, passed away Tuesday morning at Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield after a lengthy illness.
Wermuth was born June 7, 1923 in Porterville, and lived most of her life in the Kern Valley. She was a member of the Kern River Valley Historical Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
A viewing will be held Thurs- day, September 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial in East Bakersfield. Graveside service will be held at I p.m. on Friday, September 7 at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service is tentatively planned by the VFW in Lake Isabella follow- ing the graveside service.
Wermuth was preceded in
death by her husband James Robert Wermuth. She is surviv- ed by sons Ronald of Kernville, Donald of Bakersfield, daughters Patti Burke of Brookside, Utah and Jeannette "Chickie" Joseph of Arroyo Grande, and three granddaughters.
She is also survived by many friends and relatives in the Kern Valley.
Wermuth was proud of her Native American heritage and actively involved in the Indian community. She was related to many prominent Indian families in the Kern Valley, including the Robinsons, Apalateas, Burlandos and Butterbredts.

Kenneth Ray Coker
Private services were held for Kenneth Ray Coker, 80, of Lake Isabella who died at the Veterans Hospital in Sepulveda on Aug. 6, following a long illness.
Mr. Coker was born Nov. 23, 1909 in McCleansboro, Illinois. He was raised in Indiana and serv- ed in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a prisoner of war in Germany.
Following the war, Mr. Coker opened an upholstery shop, then later was employed by NBC Studios in Burbank. He worked with NBC for about 20 years and retired in 1980.
Mr. Coker is survived by his wife of 37 years Irma, of Lake Isabella, son Jerry of Redding, daughter Carolyn of Alamo, CA; stepdaughter Jean Paulsen of Shingletown, CA; stepson James Corcoran of La Habra and son Timothy of Walnut Creek. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Coker moved to the Kern Valley as a permanent resident in 1979.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veteran, and a member of the Magic Castle Club.
Following cremation, Kenneth Ray Coker was buried in the Veterans Cemetery in West Los Angeles.
William Ray Breen
Services were held graveside at the Kern Valley Cemetery on Sept. 7 for William Ray Breen of Kernville who died Sept. 4 at his home. Pastor Floyd Castillo of the United Methodist Church in Lake Isabella presided.
Mr. Breen is survived by his mother, Mildred Breen of Kern- ville; sister, Millie of Kernville; Carol and brother Mike of Colorado.
Born April 18, 1932 in Del Norte, Colorado, Willliam R. Breen was 58 years of age.

Theodore R. Stringfellow
A funeral service was conducted graveside Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wof- ford Heights for Theodore Stringfellow of Bodfish. Mr. Stringfellow passed away Sept. 2 at Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Hope; sons Randy of Tennessee, Michael of Lake Isabella; daughter Janet Rosenberg of Santa Cruz and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Stringfellow was a member of the VFW and Eagles. During WW II he served with the U.S. Army's 101 st Airborne Division as a platoon sergeant. He made two combat jumps into enemy territory during the Liberation of Europe.
Born Nov. 13, 1921 in Texas, Theodore Royce Stringfellow was 68. Interment at the Kern Valley Cemetery where military honors were rendered by officers and members of the KRV Post 7665 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A graveside service was held Tues- day, Sept. 11 at the Kern River Valley cemetery in Wofford Heights for Elizabeth Norris of Bodfish.
She was born June 12, 1922 in South Dakota and died Sept. 7 in Bodfish. She was 68 years old.
Mrs. Norris is survived by her hus- band Edward of Bodfish; son Eddie Norris and his wife Dee of Bodfish; granddaughters Carie Hunt, Stacie Bohn; grandson Justin Norris, great granddaughter Kaila Hunt.

Ralph Kingsland
A memorial service was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Ralph Kingsland of Squirrel Valley. Eulogy and prayers were delivered by family and friends. Mr. Kingsland passed away Sept. 10 at Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Wanda of Squirrel Valley, sons David, Paul and Steve all of Oregon; daughter Peggy Larson of Los Angeles; grand- daughter Wendy . and great- granddaughter Chrissy; two brothers Chet of California and Bill of Missouri and one sister, Jessie of Arizona.
During WW II, Mr. Kingsland serv- ed with the U.S. Army. He was retired after 33 years with the L.A. County Fire Department with the rank of Captain in the Torrance Fire Dept.

Annie May Loyd of Lake Isabella died Sept. 7 in Mt. Mesa. She was born July 16, 1897 in California and was 93 years old.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Davis Loyd of Lake Isabella; niece Mariann Brewer of Morro Bay; nephew Michael Loyd Peters and his wife of Thousand Oaks; brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Peters of Los Angeles; nephew Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peters of La Habra.

A graveside service was held Fri- day, Sept. 7 at the Kern Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights for Katrina Davis Crane of Squirrel Valley. Officiating was Vicar Brian Endicott of St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Kernville. Mrs. Crane was born Dec. 23, 1916 in Tennessee and died Sept. 4 in Ridgecrest. She was 73 years old.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law Ted and Janet Crane of Squirrel Valley; son Bill Crane of Pasadena; son Ken Crane of Ridgecrest; daughter Iris Kerweghan of Squirrel Valley; 12 grand children and 21 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Crane was a six year resident of the Kern Valley.

Odie L. Gilstrap
A memorial service was held Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Eagles Aerie No. 3156 in Mt. Mesa for Odie L. Gilstrap of Bodfish. Officiating were the officers of the lodge. Mr. Gilstrap was born Oct. 13, 1926 in Missouri and died Sept. 3 in Mt. Mesa. He was 63 years old.
His remains will be intered with his parents in Missouri. He is survived by his sister Margie Hess of Apple Valley.

A funeral mass for Loretta Riley of Lake Isabella was conducted at St. Judes Parish Catholic Church on Monday, Sept. 24. Officiating was father Robert Kirkpatrick visiting pastor of St. Jude Parish. Loretta passed away in Fountain Valley, after illness.
Loretta Riley was preceded in death by her husband John Riley. She is survived by her son Larry Riley of Palmdale; daughters Kathleen Cassaro of Fountain Valley and Marilyn Thomas of Elliston, Mon- tana; sister Mildred Watton of Falls City, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; a daughter Nancy Walker; two sons, James Goetz and John Walker; his mother Eileen Goetz; two sisters, Judy Wederski and Gayle Baird; three brothers, Marty Jr., Kenneth and Donald Goetz; one niece, Addie Hanson and one nephew, Kary Wayne.

Wayne Garcia stationed with the U.S. Marine Corps in San Diego; daughters Leslie Chessani of Angels Camp, stepdaughter Kathy Capriani of Laguna Hills; mother Kathryn "Kitty" Noles of Kernville; sister Genevieve Busby of Wofford Heights; stepsons Tom Wolfson of Ontario, William Tuenge of Reno and 15 grandchildren.
Mr.Smith served 20 years on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps. His service covered three wartime periods: WW II, Korea and Viet- nam. As an aviation mechanic and in- spector for the Marines he served in many parts of the U.S. and Asia. Following active duty he continued for another 10 years as a Marine reservist. In civilian life, Les was a refrigeration mechanic and worked for such organizations as "Harvey's Wagon Wheel" Casino and Hotel in Lake Tahoe. He was a member of the VFW Post 7665. Born July 5, 1929 in Monterey Park, CA Les Smith was 61 years of age. Cremation ar- rangements by Valley Mortuary.
Dora E. Cau
Dora Eveline Cau of Southlake passed away Oct. 5 at Kern Valley Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her hus- band Joseph, deceased July 29, 1984 and survived by her sons Robert of Lake Isabella, John of Ventura Coun- ty; daughters Evelyn Stewart of Lake Isabella, Nadine Tracy of Lake Isabella; grandchildren Bobby, Kathy, Gordon, Charlene, Terry-Lee, David, Joseph, Coleen and John- Paul; great-grandchildren Christoper, Allison, Joshua and Elleah.
Born Jan. 27. 1913 in Los Angeles County, Dora Eveline Cau was 77 years of age. Interment of cremated remains at Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights. Crema- tion arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
Michael Arthur Prival
A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 5 for Michael A. Prival of Bodfish. Of- ficiating was Rev. Gary Nichols of the Southshore Ministries, Lake Isabella. Mr. Prival passed away Oct. 1 at Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years Yvonne of Bodfish, parents Bert and Mary Prival of Bodfish; sons Michael, David and Cory; brothers Tim and Leland and sister Melody Ortega.
Born Oct. 14, 1938 in Los Angeles, Michael Arthur Prival was 51 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
Henry J. "Jack" Mays
A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Valley Mor- tuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Henry Jackson "Jack" Mays of Mt. Mesa. Officiating was Mr. Bruce Evans, a family friend and minister of the Church of Christ. Mr. Mays passed away Oct. 7 at the Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son Doug and daughter in law Pat of Mentone, CA; son Dan and daughter in law Susan of Rialto; grandchildren, Debbie, Diane and Brian, Jeffry, Jen- nifer and Aimce.
During WW II, Mr. Mays served as an airgunner aboard bombers over Europe. He was shot down and cap- tured by the Germans and served as a POW in camps in Germany. For wounds received during this ex- perience, Staff Sgt. Henry J. Mays was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Jack Mays was a minister of the Church of Christ and a member of local 12 of the Interna- tional Union of Operating Engineers.
