A funeral service was con- ducted Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Louise Trusty of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Joel Astor of Valley Mortuary. Mrs. Trusty passed away Jan 31 at Kern Valley Hospital.

Lois Isabell Fisher a former resident of Lake Isabella died Feb. 2 in Pomona. Lois was born Dec. 24, 1909 in Syrause, Morgan County, Missouri, and was 79. She was buried Feb. 10 at Kern Valley Cemetery with husband George Fisher who preceded her in death in 1983.

DEWITT DAVID NEWMAN
A graveside service was held at Kern Valley Cemetery for Dewitt David Newman of Lake Isabella. Officiating was his son Pastor David Newman of Nebraska. Mr. Newman was born Nov. 27, 1909 in Arkansas and died June 13, 1988 in Bakersfield, he was 78. Helen Spratt passed away on Jan. 24 in Kaiser Hospital, Woodland Hills. She was born March 5, 1919 in St. Louis, MO.
Mrs. Spratt has been a resident of Wofford Heights since 1980.
She is survived by her husband James A. Spratt; two sons James V. Spratt and Donald L. Spratt; daughter Marilyn Lewis; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Jay, Jill Leslie, Mark and Kent.

James Charles Crocker died at his residence on Feb. 7 in Bod- fish. He was born March 19, 1918 In Cleveland, Ohio and was 70 years old.
Mr. Crocker was a 20 year employee of Los Angeles county in the communications depart- ment and an eight-year resident of the Kern Valley.

A funeral service was held at the Kern Valley Cemetery for Rolland "Gus" Leonard Sanford of Lake Isabella. Officiating was pastor John Carpenter of the First Church of the Nazarene of Lake Isabella.
Mr. Sanford was born Aug. 9, 1912 in California and died Feb. 10 In Bakersfield. He was 77.
He is survived by he wife Babe of 88 years of Lake Isabella; daughter Chris Nelson of Palmdale; brother Les Sanford of Fresno; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Mr. Sanford was a 17 year resident of the Kern Valley.

A funeral service was held Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. View Bap- tist Church for Paul Eldrige Green of Bodfish. Officiating was Dr. Jerry Corbaley, pastor of the Mt. View Baptist Church. Inter- ment followed at Valley Oaks Memorial park in Westlake Village on Feb. 14.
Mr. Green was born Jan. 25, 1903 in Alabama and died Feb. 10 In Bakersfield. He was 88.

Mr. Beard was born Feb. 8, 1830 in Illinois and died at his residence In Bodfish on Feb. 12. He was 59.
He is survived by his sons Shawn and Mark Beard, and daughter Heidi Beard of Washington. Mr. Beard was a 15 year resident of the Kern Valley.

Mrs. Ehrgood was born July 3. 1928 in Escondido and died Feb. 8 in Mt. Mesa. She was 62. She was preceded in death by her husband Homer St. Gean in 1967 and by her husband Curtis Ehrgood in 1981.

Betsy Esponda
Funeral services for Isabel Blanche "Betsy" Burlando E'sponda, 77, were conducted graveside at the Old Kem Hiver Cemetery. Officiating was Rev. James McGhee, Pastor of the Kem- ville Methodist Church and officers of VFW Auxiliary of Post 7665 of the Kern Valley. Pallbearers were Walter Hanning, Leonard Hamming, John McNally, Kenneth Ithoades, Dwight Pascoe, Arthur Esponda, Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Beatty and Delmar Pricc.
Mrs. E'sponda passed away Feb. 23 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield. She is survived by her son Claude of Lake Isabella; grandsons Brent of Lake Isabella and Tyler of Kernville; brothers William "Bill" Burlando of Kernville, John Burlando of Kernville and many nieces and nephews.
Betsy Burlando Esponda was a pioneer born at Fairview on the Kem River in Tulare County. The daughter of Matt Burlando, an Italian im- migrant and Lupe Apalatea, a local girl, whose family can trace their roots back to the orginal Spanish set- ters and Native American Indians in the Kern Valley. At the time of Bet- sy's birth on Dec. 15, 1911, Matt and Lupe operated a pack station and boarding house serving mainly Edison Co. construction workers, and tourists. As a child, Betsy mowed hay, delivered milk and developed into a superb horsewoman and cowgirl. In 1933, she won the world's champion- ship in women's team roping as a "header" riding her favorite Ap- paloosa "Chiquita".
In 1944, Betsy married Arthur Esponda. They rasied cattle at the Tuttle Ranch in Wofford Heights. Later they moved to Old Isabella, now underwater, and purchased the Powers Ranch, operating it until it was bought out by the U.S. Govern- ment for the construction of the dam and lake.
Betsy continued to cowboy for her two brothers Bill and John on the Burlando Ranch located on what Is now the townsite of Kernville.
Betsy continued to ride in Kernville Whiskey Flat Days parades untü her rellrement In 1975. Betsy was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 15 23 California Ave, Bakersfield.

Mr. Hix had been a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 17 years and was retired from the Southern Californis Edison Co.

Mr. Hill passed away March 9 at the Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Ann of Wofford Heights; daughter Diane Carson of North Hollywood; brother Paul Hill; two grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Mr. Hill was a Master Mason and a member of the KRV Lodge 827. Arne Hill had served with the U.S. Navy prior to WWII aboard the battleship U.S.S. Pennsylvania. Donald De Fussi known as the "Flower Man of Kernville" passed away March 14 at the Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his daughter and son in law Susan and Brad Askew of Bakersfield; grandsons Brian Ege of Palmdale, Brandon Ege of Bakersfield, Brett Ege of Bakersfield and Bo Askew of Bakersfield. Don DeFussi was a WWII veteran of the U. S Army who served in the South Pacific with the Air Corps as a camoflage expert. In civilian life, he was a landscape architect. Oliver Stine, former Weldon resi- dent, passed away Feb. 3 in a Granada Hills hospital. Forced by his illiness to return to the San Fernando Valley, he was hosptialized for nearly two years before his death.
He was born in Oakland on June 10, 1913 and was 75.
He is survived by his wife Claudine of Newhall; son Oliver Stine, Jr. and family of Newhall; daughter Marilyn Small of Granada Hills, Robert Stine and family of Newbury Park and Lin- da Wallace and family of Northridge; 10 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren. During the 13 years they lived in the valley, he attended the Weldon Methodist Church, He also attended the Masonic Lodge. Reseda Lodge conducted the service and burial was at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth.

She was prededed in death by her husband Homer St. Gean in 1967 and by her husband Curtis Ehrgood in 1981.
Mr. Ehrgood was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Faternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and a two year resident of the Kern Valley.
She is survived by her son Bruce St. Cean of Encinitas; and daughter Christiie St. Gean of Oceanside; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; sisters Thelma Kile, Eunice Dell and Bertha St. Gean all of California. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
EDITH POLING GUTHRIE
A funeral service was held at the commital chapel at the Kern Valley Cemetery on Thursday, Feb. 16 for Edith Poling Guthrie of Southlake. Officiating were friends and family. Mrs. Guthrie was born in West Virginia and died Feb. 12 at her residence in Southlake. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert Guthrie, daughter Shirley Longworth of Wofford Heights; brother Carl Poling of Maryland; sister Ger- trude Forman of West Virginia. Mrs. Guthrie was a 9 year resi- dent of the Kern Valley.

Benjamin Franklin Lassiter
Graveside services were held Friday, February 17, 1989 at 1: 00 p.m. at the Kern Valley Cemetary for Mr. Benjamin Franklin Lassiter. Pastor David Snow of the 1st Baptist Church of Lake Isabella officiated. Mr. Lassiter was a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 12 years.
He was born In Conway, North Carolina on February 24, 1915 and died February 13, 1989. Age 73. He was a World War II Veteran. Battlefield Commissioned and recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He Is survived by his wife of 47 years Faye G. Lassiter of Bodfish, CA. Son & Daughter-In- law William and Ann Lassiter of Anaheim, CA. Daughter and Son- in-law Paula and Jerry Wittenauer of Ft. Collins, CO. Son Benjamin Lassiter, Jr. of Ventura, CA. Daughter and Son- in-law Darlene and Lee McEachern of Kernville, CA. Two grandchildren Lisa and Jeff Wittenauer of Ft. Collins, CO. Sister Marie Connell of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Thomas O'Hara
Thomas Jolin O'llara of Lake Isabella passed away March 22 at the Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield.
He is survived by his wife Oleta of Lake Isabella; son Arnold ()'Hara of Niles, Illinois; daughter Jerrie Gotzinger of Ir- vine and six grandchildrue.
Thomas O'llara was retired from the Southern Pacific Railway where he had served 34 years as a machinist. He lived in the hem Valley for 20 years and was known by the C.B. handle "Pater."
Born May 27, 1904 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, Thomas John O'Hara was 84.
Interment of cremated re- mains at the Kern Valley Cemetery. Cremation ar- rangements by Valley Mortuary.
Billie O. Carr
Billie Carr of Wofford Heights passed away March 21 at the Kern Valley Hospital. A memorial service for Mr. Carr was conducted Saturday, March 25 at the Elks Lodge. Officiating were officers of BPOR Lodge.
