"STEVE" STEPHENS
S.T. "Steve" Stephens of Bodfish passed away July 17 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. He is survived by his wife Marian; daughter and son in law Nancy and Jack Sperl- ing of El Segundo; son Norton and daughter in law Cyndie of El Segundo; grandchildren Jonathan, Maggie and Ann all of El Segundo; brother Williard Stephens of Missouri; sisters Margaret Cantwell, Laura Barker and Eileen Bradford all of Missouri. "Steve" Stephens was retired from the Western Union Co. where he had served as a satellite engineer. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the U. S. Navy aboard the Aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex.
Born Jan. 5, 1933 in Eldon, Miller County, Missouri, Shirley Thomas "Steve" Stephens was 56 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary .
MAX HARTLE
Max Hartle of Wofford Heights passed away July 19 at the Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his sister Virginia Whitaker of San Francisco and nephew Christopher Fagan of Manhattan Beach. Max Hartle was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army who served with the Engineers in Southern France, Italy and the Rhineland of Germany . Born Nov. 10, 1907 in Baggs, Wyoming, Max Hartle was 81. ROSE WENKER
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, June 24 at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church, Wofford Heights for Rose V. Wenker of Weldon, Celebrant of the Mass was Rev. Monsignor Anthoney G. Herdegen, pastor of the St. Jude parish. Monsignor Herdegen also recited a rosary before mass. Mrs. Wenker passed away July 19 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield. She is survived by her husband Vin- cent S. Wenker of Weldon. Born Oct. 5, 1923 in Brainerd, Minnesota, Rose Verone Wenker was 65. Interment at the Mackville Cemetery Aitkin County Minnesota. BILL LITTLE
Graveside services for Bill Louis Little, 66, of Wofford Heights, formerly of Creston, were held at Evergreen Cemetery, in Red Oak with the Rev. Roger Maize officiating. Mr. Little died July 5 at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Little was born June 25, 1923 in Creston to Orville and Ethel Little. He married Colleen Waage, in 1949. He lived in Torrance for 30 years where he worked for Southern California Edison. Upon retirement in 1979, the couple moved to Wofford Heights.
He was a member of the Kernville Methodist Church and had dual membership in the Masonic Temple in Creston and Kernville. He also served his county in the United States Navy during WWII. Survivors include his wife; one son Gaylen D. Little of Atascadero; one daughter, Pamela Colley of Boulder, CO; and four grandchildren.

Margaret Card
Services were held July 27 at the Kernville Methodist Church for Margaret Card of Wofford Heights who died July 21 at UCLA Medical Center of cancer.
She is survived by her husband Clell Card of Wofford Heights; son Andrew and daughter-in-law Pam and grandsons Forest and Brian of Bremerton, Washington; daughter Diann Stewart of Ogden, Utah; son Ronald of Los Angeles; brother Karl and sister in law Jane Salskov of Bellevue, WA; brother James and sister in law Rose Salskov of Emmett, Idaho and brother John and sister in law Elsa Salskov of Cashmire, WA.
Margaret was born in Emmett, Idaho in Feb., 1920. A graduate of U.S.C. Margaret and Clell were married Feb. 14, 1942. Margaret worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District at Hollenbeck Junior High School as an English teacher and retired in 1982. Margaret lived in Los Angeles from 1936 until she and Clell moved to Wofford Heights in 1982.
The family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Margaret's name in lieu of flowers.
Thomas Cooper
Graveside services were held at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery on Aug. 1 for Thomas J. Cooper, 73, of Hemet. Pastor Randy Jones of the Valley Vista Assembly of God church officiated.
Born Feb. 4, 1916 in Corrinth, Mississippi, Mr. Cooper passed away July 29 at the Ramona Manor Hospital. A 49-year resi- dent of California, he had Lived in Hemet for the past 10 years. He was a retired building contractor. During WW II he had worked at the Terminal Island Ship Yards.
Prior to moving to Hemet, he lived in the Kern Valley.
He Is survived by his wife, Selma Cooper of Hemet, 2 sons Thomas C. Cooper and Robert A. Cooper, both of San Diego; daughter Judith Anne Dyson of Hemet, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers Ben Cooper of Texas and Jack Cooper of San Diego.
Clyde Fair
A family memorial service was conducted Wednesday, Aug. 2 at the Committal Chapel of the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Clyde Roscoe Fair of Kernville. Delivering the eulogy was Mr. Jack Fair of Fallbrook.
Clyde Fair is preceded in death by his son Dwight R. "Spud" Fair, and survived by his son Jack of Fallbrook; daughter in law Marianne Fair of Kernville; daughter Virginia Carlisle of Burbank; grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

A funeral service was con- ducted Wednesday, Aug. 2 graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Phyllis M. Dowell, 62, of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev. James McGhee, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Kernville. Mrs. Dowell passed away July 27 at the Kern Valley Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Orville of Wofford Heights; mother Catherine Martin of Wof- ford Heights; son Michael of Houston, Texas; sister Doreen Posey of Wofford Heights; brother Bob Bond of Fallon, Nevada. Mrs. Dowell had been a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 15 years. Born March 15, 1927 in El Segundo, California, Phyllis Mae Dowell was 62.

A funeral service was conducted Friday, April 28 at the Valley Mor- tuary Chapel of Lake Isabella for Robert Spindler of Onyx. Officiating was Rev. Charles Smith pastor of the United Methodist Church, Weldon. Mr. Spindler passed away April 25 at the Community Hospital of Lancaster.
He is survived by his wife Alice of Onyx; daughter and son in law Margaret and Ken Johnson of Iowa, daughter snd son in Law La Verne and Bill Milam of Mt. Mesa; grand- children Deborah Lydick of Santa Maria, Beverly Wahl of Reno, Gary Johnson and wife Tammy of Min- nesota and five great-grandchildren. Robert Spindler is also survived by brother Irvin Spindler of Venezuela and sister Margaret Morgan of Inglewood.
During WWII, Bob Spindler serv- ed with the Army Air Corps as an anti-aircraft artillery mechanic in Civilian life he spend 50 years as a heavy equipment operator

Heights. Mr. Bradshaw passed away Aug. 7 at home. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna and survived by his mother Cardley Bradshaw and
sister Ruby Rose of Bakersfield. Billy Bradshaw was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a cabinet maker and operated a cabinet shop on Erskine Creek Rd. near his residence. Many of the homes in the Kern Valley are equipped with cabinets made by Bill Bradshaw. Born March 30, 1927 in Kiowa, Oklahoma, Billy Bradshaw was 62.

Fred Higgins
Fred Higgins of Wofford Heights passed away Aug. 10 at Kern Valley Hospital. He is sur- vived by his brother William Hig- gins and brother in law Earl Osgard both of Detroit; nieces and nephews in Detroit; one aunt Agnes Compton of Wofford Heights.
Fred Higgins was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a staff sergeant with the Corps of Engineers in Nor- thern France, the Ardennes Forest, Rhineland of Germany and Central Europe. He received four bronze battle stars.
Following the war, Mr. Higgins worked as a technical writer in the Southern California Aerospace Industry, retiring to the Kern Valley in 1976. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Hawthorne, Moose Lodge 498 of Lake Isabella.
Born June 8, 1914 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, Frederick Higgins was 75.
Interment at the Riverside U.S. National Cemetery where military honors were rendered by members of VFW Post 7665 of the Kern Valley. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Mr. Freeman is survived by his wife Wanda; daughter Ellen Yeager of Bakersfield; son Tom Freeman of Sherman Oaks; son Milt Garber of Valencia; six grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren.

Louis Agnes Marie Kleist
A funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel In Lake Isabella for Louise Agnes Marie Kleist of Kernville, with inter- ment following Tuesday, Sept. 19 in Inglewood Memorial park. Of- ficiating was Jim McGhee of the Kernville United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kleist was born March 10, 1907 in Leavenworth, Kansas and died Sept. 14 in Bakersfield. She was 82.
She is survived by her daughters Doris Hoffman of Hun- tington Beach, Janet Devlin of Frazier Park; sister Ruth Moodenbaugh of Oregon; 8 grandchildren. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and a member of the Women's Club. Mrs. Kleist was a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 11 years.

Aleene Mallette, beloved mother and grandmother passed away Sept. 5 at the Kern Valley Hospital.
She was born Nov. 18, 1902 in Manila, Philippine Islands and was 87.
She Is survived by her daughter and son in law Nickie and Bob Carrillo of Lake Isabella.
Granddaughter and husband Marsha and Larry Launder of Hisperia, four great grand- daughters; Mitzy and husband Tim Killman of Lake Isabella, Cathy of West Covina, Michele and Melissa of Hesperia.

Gerald L. Frledmann, 85, of Kernville died on Sept. 2, at the Idylwood Convalescent Hospital in Sunnyvale, CA.
Friedmann was born Aug. 11, 1904 in Tell City, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Kernville; step- daughter Dawn Robidoux, of Kernville and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth of Mt. Mesa; daughter Norma Reidel of Foun- tain Valley; son Clifford, of Simi Valley; 2 grand children; one brother and two sisters. Roy Johnson was a resident of Mt. Mesa for 14 years. He was born Dec. 24, 1911.
ROBERT H. CULLEY
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Kernville Methodist Church for Robert H. Culley. "Doc" Culley died at his home in Kernville on Sunday, Sept. 24. He was born June 7, 1917 in Decatur, Illinois. He graduated from the National Chiropractic College of Chicago and moved to California in the early 1940s. In 1950, he married Marjorie Richmond.
Mr. Culley is survived by his wife Marjorie, of Kernville; a daughter, Sharon Ann Wakefield; son Robert J. Culley of Bakersfield and grandchildren Sara Allison and Jacob Todd Wakefield.
The Culleys owned the Kern Lodge Motel in Kernville from 1965 to 1975. He operated a chiropractic service in Kernville. Doc Culley was a charter member of the Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge No. 827.

Mr. Nelson passed away Sept. 18 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield. He is survived by his daughters Patricia Stratford, An- drea Frongillo and Mary Winslow, all of Massachusetts; daughter Rebecca Nelson of Han- ford; brother Forrest Nelson of Weldon; sister Maxine Trader of Hanford.
Kerrby Nelson was a career NCO in the U.S. Army. Retiring after nearly 22 years of service as Sgt. 1st class. Mr. Nelson served with distinction In WW 11 and two tours of duty in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He had resided in Kern County for 15 years.
Born April 24, 1918 in El Reno, Oklahoma, Kerrby Nelson was 71.

Leona Rodman
A funeral service was con- ducted Friday, Sept. 22 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Leona Rodman of Bodfish. Of- fclating was Rev. John Davis, Pastor of the Assembly of God church, Wofford Heights. Mrs. Rodman passed away Sept. 19 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. She is survived by her hus- band Robert of Bodfish; sons Richard of Norwalk and Robert
of Bell Gardens; brother Clarence Poehland of Nevada.
I,eona Rodman was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies), of the Kern Valley Hospital, the Grandmothers Club 99, Women of the Moose and the Douglas El Segundo Rod and Gun Club.
Born July 13, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York, Leona Wilhelmina Rodman was 68.

Karen Waters of Weldon passed away Sept. 28 at the Kern Medical Center Hospital Bakersfield.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Walter of Weldon, sons Randy of Bishop, Walter L. of Lake Isabella, daughters Dean Hoffman of Apple Valley, Charlotte Ruse of Tarzana, Bon- nie Hickman of Whittier, Betty Ann Brigham of Newport Beach, mother Gerry Altman of Weldon. Rosalie Mowry of Lake Isabella passed away Sept. 27 at the Kern River Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa.
She is survived by her husband Earl of Lake Isabella, Born May 30, 1907 in Austin, Texas, Rosalie Mowry was 82 years of age. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Joseph Herich of Lake Isabella passed away at home on Sept 27 following an illness. He is survived by his wife Mary of Lake Isabella, sons Larry and William.

Sam J. Lockett
A memorial service was con- ducted Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge in Mt. Mesa for Sam J. Lockett of Bakersfield. Officiating were d- ficers of the Kern River Valley Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 8156.
Lockett passed away Sept. 24 at the Kern Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa. He is survived by his wife Yvonne of Bakersfield, sons Jerry and Danny, daughters Sherrie, Terry and Amy and grandchildren.
Sam Lockett was a veteran of World War II and Korea, enter- Ing the U.S. Army Air Corps prior to WWII as an enlisted man and in 1953 he was discharged from the U.S. Air Force as a 1st lieutenant.
Born Sept. 17, 1919 In Hot Springs, Arkansas, Lockett was 70 years of age.
