STATE SENATORS.

State Senators

UNDER THE CONSTITUTION, ELECTED BY GENERAL TICKET.

THE Register for 1849 contains a list of Assistants, or members of the Upper House, from 1639 to 1819, when the Constitution went into operation. That for 1850 contains a list of Senators, by Districts, together with the votes of the successful and the opposing can- didates, from 1830 to 1849. During the intervening period from 1819 to 1830, the Senators, twelve in num- ber, were elected by general ticket. For two years the old Federal party had an organized existence, after which, for four or five years, during the last term of Monroe's administration, but little interest was taken in politics. In fact, in 1824, only 7,510 votes were cast in the whole state for Governor, of which all but 875 were for Gov. Wolcott.

The following are the votes for Senators by general ticket.
