The SCHOOL FUND of the State, arising from the sale of Lands, called the Connecticut Reserve in Ohio, which was allowed to the State as an offset to their claims to lands extending, according to Charter, from Rhode Island to the Pacific ocean-amounted in 1851, to $2,049,432, as follows :

The income is for the year ending April 1, 1852. The appropriations for the same year, were $139,936. To each child returned, $1.40.


The amount of the TOWN DEPOSIT FUND is $763,661.83, one-half the income of which is by law appropriated to schools; the other may be thus ap- propriated or not, as the towns shall vote. (See Reg- ister for 1850.)


In answer to the question to towns and school socie- ties, " What other appropriations are made to schools ?" We have received the following answers :


Ashford. Assessment on scholars.


Berlin. School districts are taxed from 1 to 3 per cent.


Brookfield. Donation Fund, $27.


Cheshire. Tax on the scholars.


Easton. Staples' donation pays for all the poor.


Enfield. Each district raise as they need.


Farmington. Middle district taxes property to support the school.


Goshen. Income town fund, $134. Visitors paid from town treasury.


Hartford. Society tax of 1 cent on List for High


School. Schools in city are supported by tax on property. Society appropriates $50 as compensa- tion to Visitors, above allowance by law.


Middletown. City lays a school tax of 2 cents on List, and a capitation tax. Donation fund, $85.


New Britain. Center district lays a tax of 4 cents on the List.


New Haven taxes property to support schools.
