The columns designate the time of annual meeting ; votes for governor, April, 1855; vote on amendment to the constitution, requiring ability to read, a qualification for an elector ; chil- dren returned between 4 and 16; valuation of real and personal property ; taxes per cent., indicating also the highway tax, when laid separately, and allowance made for collecting taxes. The taxes are laid on the Grand List, which is made up of 3 per cent. of the valuation, with the addition $10 for each poll.
