SCHOOL FUND .- The whole amount of the Fund, in September, 1853, was $2,046,784: consisting of Bonds and Mortgages, $1,586,488; Stock in 29 Banks, $423,900; Cash, $12,316 ; cultivated lands, $10,601; and wild lands, $13,479.


Revenue for the year ending March, 1854, $145,596 Disbursements $148,415


Number of Children embraced in returns, January, 1854, 98,980, being an increase of 2,598 over the num- ber in 1853. Dividend per scholar $1.40, making the amount divided $141,295.


By law, each town is required to levy a tax of 1 cent on a dollar of the List, or 3 cents on 100 dollars of the valuation, and 10 cents for each poll.


STATISTICS OF SCHOOLS IN CONNECTICUT.


The following summary embraces the number of children returned in Jan., 1854, by towns ; (we have not followed the division into school societies, as under the new law, they may be gradually absorbed by the towns ;) the acting school visitors; the names of teachers by profession ; and the revenue realized from local funds. By law, one-half of the avails of the Town Deposit Fund are to be devoted to Schools, and in many towns the whole is thus appropriated.
