SPRAGUE.
1. WILLIAM, according to the family tradition, arrived at Salem, Mass., with his bro's Ralph and Richard, in 1629. On Jan. 2, 1635- 36, he was an inhabitant of Charlestown, and shortly after his s. Anthony was bt. there. (See Frothingham's "History of Charles-

town.") He prob. settled in Hing. during the summer or autumn of 1636, as land was granted to him that yr. on "the Playne." Other lots also were given him for planting purposes the same yr., and at later dates. On the 28th of March, 1651, he purchased of Thomas Hammond, "Planter," a dw .- house with five acres of land adjoining his own homestead, together with other lands in that locality ; also twenty acres on the opposite side of the river, against the end of the aforesaid home-lot. At one time he appears as a resident of Mf'd, but returned again in a few yrs. to Hing. His w. Milicent, whom he m. in 1635, was a dau. of Anthony Eames. She outlived him and d. in Hing. 8 Feb. 1695-96. He d. 26 Oct. 1675. Will dated 19 Oct. 1675. Selectman 1645; and constable 1661. Resided on Union Street, "over the river."

Sarah; gives " to son Seth my home place with the buildings thereon, my mare, a yoke of oxen, cart," etc .; "to son Reuben the southerly part of my home land lying on the west side of the country road ; " " to daughters Sarah, Rachel, Priscilla, and Abigail," a sum of money (naming it) to each ; also to Jacob Sprague, Asa Sprague, and Charles Sprague, sons of my son Jacob Sprague, deceased ; and to Sarah and Abigail Sprague, daughters of my son Jacob Sprague, deceased, 20 shillings each, when they arrive at 18 years of age."
