WINCHESTER.
1. JOHN, a young man who came over in the ship "Elizabeth," from London, with Clement Bate and others, had a grant of land in Hing. July 3, 1636, which contained five acres, and was located on Town (South) St., West Hing. He was made a freeman March 9, 1636-37. At the time of the military trouble here, 1644-45, he took an active part in the proceedings, from which cause he was fined, but subse- quently released on account of his poverty. (Colonial rec's, iii. 80.) His w., whom he m. Oct. 15, 1638, was Hannah, dau. of Dea. Richard Sealis of Scit. They removed to "Muddy River," a part of Boston, where he d. 25 Apr. 1694, æt. ab. 75 yrs.

RALPH, a merchant from Dublin, Ire., became a resident of Hing. 1636, and the same yr. had a house-lot of five acres granted him on Town (South) St., near what is now the corner of Hersey St. The chris. name of his w., whom he prob. m. in Ire., was Mary. She d. in Hing. 4 Feb. 1660-61. He d. 5 Jan. 1662-63. Freeman 1638. Was one of the first two deacons of the church in Hing., having been chosen to the office 29 Jan. 1639-40. July 2, 1780. Levi removed with his fam. to Springfield, Vt. The present Rev. L. B. Bates, of Boston, is a gr .- s. of Levi.
