Farmer thinks the elder Wakely is the same who, with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchil- dren, was murdered by the Indians at Casco Bay in 1675. WALTON.
WILLIAM, had a grant of land in Hing. at the first distribution of lots, Sept. 18, 1635. Walton's Cove, included in what is now Melville Gardens, at Downer Landing, undoubtedly derived its name from him. "He had been bred," says Mr. Savage, "at Emanuel Coll., Cambridge (Eng.), where he took his degree 1621, and 1625, and was no doubt ord., and served at Seaton, in the County of Devon, where it is known that several of his children were born." In our early history, the est's on Main, between High and Friend Sts., belonged to Samuel Ward, and were sold by him to Jabez Wilder. He also owned other lots of land, and the street leading from High to Cushing St. un- doubtedly took its name from the fact that sev. generations of his descendants lived in this neighborhood. His
