The est. referred to was on Bachelor (Main) St., and included the spot upon which Joseph B. Thaxter, a lineal descendant, now re- sides. Two yrs. later he made sev. purchases of land at Broad Cove, and near Wey. river ; also in 1652, the dw .- house and land where his s. John afts. resided. The chris. name of his w. was Elizabeth. She outlived him, and m. secondly, Sept. 29, 1654, William Ripley, wid !. Surviving him, she m. thirdly, Jan. 28, 1657-58, John Dwight of Ded- ham, and d. 17 July, 1660. Thomas d. 4 Feb. 1653-54. Thaxter was a man of marked ability, and one of Hing.'s most prominent and influential citizens ; magistrate; delegate to the General Court 1697, and from 1708 to 1712 inc., also from 1714 to 1718 inc .; an assistant, and otherwise distinguished in public trusts ; selectman 1695, 1705, 1706, and 1714.
