1. THOMAS, first of the name in Hing., had a grant of land here in 1637 ; also other grants at subsequent dates. Nichols's Hill, referred to in early deeds (Suff. Recs. vol. 34, p. 207), prob. took its name from him. On the 11th of March, 1653, he added to his real estate by purchasing of Thomas Josselyn, et al., dw .- house, barn, etc., with three acres of land, which had previously belonged to Stephen Lin- coln, bounded by the " comon " north and south ; the "comons " and Thomas Nichols west; and Thomas Lincoln, husbandman, east. Israel d. 24 Jan. 1733-34, æt. 83 yrs. In his will, made Jan. 1, 1733-34, proved 21 Feb. foll., he bequeaths to eldest s. Nathaniel ; to sons Jazaniah and Roger, and to s. Israel, land at Lan- caster, purchased of Aaron Hobart; also to dau's and gr. ch., naming them ; directs that the ch. of "my first wife build a monument over her grave, and that the executors of this will erect one over mine."
