THOMAS1 LITTLEJOHN of Edinburgh, Scotland, the immigrant head of this family, came to Boston about 1718, when 22 years of age, and soon after went to Lancaster, where he is found as early as 1725, when he enlisted in the service of the Prov- ince, in Capt. Blanchard's Company. On the 17th of Jany., 1726-7, he married Mary Butler.

During the French War, Mr. Littlejohn again enlisted in his Majesty's service, and was killed at Louisburg in 1745.

His widow Mary died in Bolton, in 1768, leaving quite a little property. By her will she gave to her sons Thomas, Simeon and Tilly five shillings each ("which is all I give them ") and the balance of the estate to her daughter Sarah. Tilly was appointed executor, but he declined to serve.

Of the five children, four were recorded at Lancaster: Mary, born May 10, 1728, died Dec. 14, 1748; Thomas, Jr. born July 27, 1730, went to Halifax, Nova Scotia, thence to the neighborhood of Portland, Me. where he died leaving a large number of descendants; Sarah died in 1817, in Bolton; Simeon, according to statements received from his brother Thomas, settled in one of the southern states, no family recorded.

The descendants of Tilly are scattered throughout the the United States, some of them occupying positions of honor and trust.

LITTLEJOHN Tilly, son of Thomas and Mary (Butler) Little- john, born in Lancaster, May 26, 1735. After the death of his father who was killed at Louisburg when Tilly was about ten years old, the family appear to have continued their residence in Lancaster or Bolton for some years. On the 23d of April 1755, at which time he was an apprentice of Jonathan Wilder, Tilly enlisted in the Company of Capt. Asa Whitcomb, and was in the expedition to Crown Point.

His company was in the " bloody morning fight " but he escaped without injury and after six months service was discharged, on the 25th of October.

On the Ist of December, 1757, he married Hannah Brooks, in Lancaster, and it is probable that he settled in Princeton in 1758, buying in 1759 land on the easterly slope of the mountain near the present Pine Hill house, where he built a house of which the cellar hole still remains. About 1777 he removed to that part of Lancaster adjoining Princeton, afterwards incorporated as Sterling, where he died Nov. I, 1793 (g.s. aged 58 years 9 months) of consumption and asthma, leaving wife and two children. She died in Litchfield, N. H., Aug. 7, 1820, aged 81 " a dear good pious old lady." Their children were:

i. LEVI, b. Oct. 2, 1758, d. Feb. 17, 1759.

ii. HANNAH, b. Jany. 30, 1760, d. July 20, 1764. -
