DAVIS.

DOLOR DAVIS1, the immigrant head of this family, was born not far from 1600, perhaps a little earlier, probably in Kent, England. He married March 29, 1624, Margery, daughter of Richard Willard of Horsemonden, Kent. Three of their six children were born in England and three in America. He probably arrived in Boston in the spring of 1634, and made his first settlement in " The New Towne," now Cambridge, Mass. Soon after removed to Concord and from thence to Duxbury, and in 1640 to Barnstable, where he remained for fifteen years.

About 1655 he sold his property on the Cape and buying land in Concord, Mass., moved thither with his family and possibly with the prospect of more employment at his trade of house builder, became interested in the starting of the new settlement at Groton, near Concord.

It seems that Dolor Davis retained his Concord real estate until the time of his death, but his wife Margery, having died, the aged man being left alone by her death and the marriage of his children, returned to Barnstable, where he married, probably in 1671, Mrs. Joanna Bursley, daughter of Rev. Joseph Hull and widow of Capt. John Bursley of Barnstable.
