STEVENSON Col .- Samuel, son of Isaac Stevenson of Pelham, and Thankful (Savage) Stevenson of Rutland. His grandfather was one of the early Scotch-Irish settlers of Worcester. He was born in Enfield, 1783, married April 23, 1808, Anna Russell, who died Feb. 20, 1815, ae. 29. He kept a country store and post office, about 1816-18 and was the first ap- pointed Postmaster of Princeton. He was succeeded by Charles Russell, Esq., who was a brother of Mrs. Stevenson. He married Persis, daughter of Solomon Wilson, June 28, 1821, was taxed on mill property, 1819. His widow married (2ª) Moses Temple in 1836, and had Mary Temple, and Emily W. Temple, who married George M. Gregg. Children of Freeman and Persis were:

He married (2ª) June 27, 1657, Margaret daughter of Thomas Bowlins, Samuel2, son of Samuel1, was prob- ably born in England, and came to Watertown, with his parents, he married (Ist) Mary Fry, and (2ª) Hannah Wheat. His son Samuel3, born March 5, 1660, married Nov. 28, 1683, Elizabeth Fletcher, and died in Concord, Nov. 30, 1707, Samuel4, born 1684, married Jany. 19, 1709-10, Sarah Allen, and removed to Rutland, Samuel5, born Feb. 1, 1720, married Mary Eaton of Worcester.


STRATTON Dea .- Samuel6 (Samuel5, Samuel4, Samuel3, Samuel2, Samuel1), son of Samuel5 of Rutland, and Mary Eaton, no record of his birth in Rutland, married Nov. 14, 1782, Martha Davis, daughter of Ephraim, one child was born in Rutland, all but two first, recorded at one time. He removed from

SUMNER.


GEORGE1 SUMNER, the immigrant head of this family, was born at Bicester, England, 1634, is recorded as a freeman of Massachusetts Bay, May 6, 1657, married at Northampton, Nov. 7, 1662, Mary, daughter of Edward Baker of Northampton. He lived at Milton, where he was a Lieutenant Deputy to the General Court, and a Deacon.


He died at Milton, Dec. II, 1715, his widow died April I, 1719. Daniel4, since of Princeton, is descended from George1, through Ebenezer2 (and Abigail (Lovett) Sumner) born at Mil- ton, Dec. 9, 1673, Daniel3 (and Beriah) born June 24, 1709, and died May 12, 1779.

SUMNER Daniel4 (Daniel3, Ebenezer2, George1), son of Daniel3 and Beriah Sumner, born in Mendon, 1739, where he was a proprietor in 1759, he married Lydia Fairbanks, who con- fessed 1768, is said to have lived in Woodstock, Conn. Two children are recorded as born in Grafton; in May 1764, he came from Mendon, and resided in Princeton from 1764, to 1782, removing in 1783, to Halifax, Vt., where he died July 31, 1810, and she August 30, 18II. TAYNTOR (TAINTER) Dea. Benjamin, son of Dea. Joseph, and Thankful (Barrett) Tayntor, born in Marlboro, Jany. 3, 1733, married June 4, 1755, Sarah Brigham. He was evidently of a roving disposition, as he resided successively, in Wood- stock, Ct., Shrewsbury, Princeton, Shrewsbury again, Hub- bardston, and Natick, closing his career in 1798, in Worcester, N. Y. During his seven or eight years residence in Princeton, he owned land, and held the office of Constable. His children were:

THACHER.


The first of this name in Princeton, was Obadiah4, descended from REV. PETER1 THACHER, of Milton, through Rev. Peter2 of Middleboro, and Rev. Peter3 of Attleboro, the latter was the first minister of the second church in Attleboro, which was constituted, Nov. 30, 1748. He resigned Oct. 26, 1784, having suffered an attack of paralysis, which rendered him incapable of performing the duties of his office, and died Sept. 13, 1785.


THACHER Obadiah4 (Rev. Peter3 of Attleboro, Rev. Peter2 of Middleboro, Rev. Peter1 of Milton), third son, and fourth child, of Rev. Peter Thacher of Attleboro, Mass., born July 31, 1757. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Col. Stephen Richardson, of Attleboro, and subsequently removed to Princeton, settling on the Daniel Davis place near Brooks Station, where he also had a saw-mill. Here he resided till the autumn of 1803, when he removed with his family to Harford, Pa. He was also in the Revolutionary Army, for three years. He died at Har- ford, in June, 1838, a few weeks short of eighty-one years of age, " The measure of his days was filled with fervent prayer, and exemplary piety." It is recorded that a pile of logs started and rolled down the hill to his saw-mill, one day while he was

at dinner, and he sent a note to his minister, returning thanks that he was away when it occurred. The children of Obadiah and Elizabeth were:

Peter1 of Milton), son of Obadiah4 and Elizabeth (Richardson) Thacher of Attleboro, was born in Princeton, Nov. 14, 1795, married Henrietta Wilmarth, Sept. 25, 1822. He was graduated at Brown University, Sept. 3, 1821, was approbated to preach the Gospel, June 1822, was ordained pastor of the Church at North Wrentham, Mass., Aug. 20, 1823, where he continued fifteen years, was afterwards pastor of the Cong'l Church, in Pitcher, Chenango Co., N. Y., and in several other places, and finally went to Illinois, where he died, July 21, 1878. His wife, Henrietta, also died in Illinois, Nov. 23, 1868. Their children were:

JAMES1 THOMPSON supposed to be of Scotch-Irish de- scent, came over from the north of Ireland with his sons James2 and Samuel2 in 1718. They settled in North Worcester, now Holden, and both died there in August, 1756. Samuel2 had 8 children, James, William, Samuel, Isaac, Thomas, John, Esther and Ann. Isaac3 never married, but adopted Isaac4, a son of his brother Thomas2, and father of Isaac-Franklin-Thompson5 of Princeton. He, Isaac3, was b. 1739 in Holden and d. Feb. 16, 1833, ae. 94, was in both the French and Revolutionary Wars and was said to have been under Wolfe at Quebec. He early settled in Princeton and lived and died there. Children:

H., March 4, 1787, came to Princeton in 1797, married at Hub- bardston, Aug. 13, 1809, Rhoda Greenwood, daughter of Abijah and Elizabeth, who died in Princeton, April 21, 1865, ae. 79. He died in Princeton, Dec. 20, 1865. Children:

THOMPSON William3 (Samuel2, James1), son of Samuel2 and brother of Thomas3, moved to Princeton from Holden with his wife Ann and two children, Samuel and Mary in 1761. The other children, James, William and John were born in Princeton. The whole family lived for many years on the place previously occupied by - Partridge. His wife Ann died Jany. II, 18II, ae. 85. He d. Sept. 7, 1811, ae. 83. Their children were:

TITUS.


TITUS Dr. Samuel was taxed in Princeton as early as 1812. He lived near G. O. Skinner's. His wife " Deba," died June 28, 1822. Their son (1) CHARLES-DARWIN, died Nov. 10, 1822, ae. 16 (at Manasseh Willard's). A gravestone to his memory was erected by Mr. Willard. Doctor Samuel died at Cam- bridgeport, March 3, 1834, ae. 61.


TURNER.


TURNER Gardner-D., son of Bezaleel and Lucy (Davis) Turner, married in Rutland 1834, Dolly Davis. While in Princeton, Mr. Turner lived with John Winch. He died in Princeton,

VINER John of Brockington, England, he came to America as one of Burgoine's men, and was taken prisoner in 1777. With his wife Sally, and their children, came to Princeton, from Westminster, in 1803, "After many vicissitudes " died in Westminster, Sept. 4, 1826. His children were:
