The latter by wife Mercy, had in Sherburn, Joanna, Mary, Betty, Enoch, John, Jr., and Aaron5.


PERRY Aaron5 (John4, Samuel3, John2, John1), son of John4 and Mercy, was born in Sherburn, April 17, 1733, married in Mendon, March 4, 1761, Mary French of Mendon. In 1757, he removed to Princeton, and lived on the John P. Rice place, where he died, Nov. 24, 1820. Their children were:

PERRY Nathan6 (Aaron5, John4, Samuel3, John2, John1), son of Aaron5 and Mary (French) Perry, born August 29, 1767, married Oct. 7, 1792, Anna Gale, he was in 1794, Lieut. 2ª Battalion, 7th Division, Mass. Militia, and "had aged parents." Appears to have lived in Princeton, until 1799, or 1800, thence removed to Leicester, Vt., and back to Princeton again, about 1804. He died at Worcester, May 2, 1833, and she in Wor- cester, Feb. 1, 1845. Their children were:

Their son Daniel2 married Elizabeth Whitcomb, and lived in Littleton, where Jonathan3 was born, the latter removed to Lancaster, and by wife Hannah Savage had Amos4.

His grandson Gershom3, was born, 1702, his great-grandson Jacob4 was born 1735, his great- great-grandson Henry5, born Aug. 3, 1764, married Asenath Holbrook,


PRATT Moses6 ( Henry5, Jacob4, Gershom3, Ebenezer2, Thomas1), son of Henry5 and Asenath (Holbrook) Pratt, born in Sher- burn, July 13, 1798, married March 20, 1823, Elizabeth Ellis, daughter of Eleazer and Sarah, born at Providence, R. I., Jany. 3, 1801 and died Oct. 23, 1881. He removed to Prince- ton in April, 1826. He died Nov. 4, 1853 in Princeton. Their children were:

HENRY1 PRENTISS, the progenitor of this family, was in Cam- bridge as early as 1640, and probably was born in England. He owned lands in Sudbury, and was one of its early proprie- tors, in 1650. He was made a freeman in Cambridge, May 22, 1653, was twice married, and died in Cambridge, June 9, 1654.

PRENTISS Henry5 ( Nathan4, Henry3, Solomon2, Henry1), son of Nathan4 and Mehitable Spencer, b. July 25, 1767, married Elizabeth (Betsy) Gill, dau. John and Hannah (Foster) Gill, March 6, 1801. She was born in Princeton, March 24, 1780. He practised law in Princeton from 1787, to April 7, 1819, when he removed to Hubbardston. There he served as select- man, representative, etc. He died in Hubbardston, March 6, 1843. His widow died Jany. 7, 1860.

RAY Abel. The record of this family appears very much mixed. Abel of Marlboro in 1757 bought fifty acres of land in Prince- ton. He joined the church in Princeton in 1764. By his first wife Hannah (Ammidon), daughter of Ephraim Ammidon of Oxford, Mass., he had (I) MARY, in 1722, (II) AMOS, in 1725, (III) EUNICE, in 1728, and by his second wife Thankful, (IV) FRANCES, (v) REUBEN, (VI) LEVINA, (VII) ABEL, and (VIII) THANKFUL. He was warned Nov. 3, 1769, with wife Thankful and six children removing to Chesterfield, N. H., in 1770, and appears to have been in Hinsdale, Vt., about 1790. He is on record as a soldier in the French War. The Chester- field historian quotes the expression " clumsy as Abel Ray," a common expression in that part of the town; intimating that Mr. Ray was not noted for his agility; whether father or son acquired the title is uncertain.

Edward4, son of John, married Rachel Elgit, and removed to Rutland, of which township he was a proprietor, no record of their children has been found, but the names of six have been obtained from descendants, one of these John5, married Sarah Martin, and was the father of Asa6.


RICE Asa6 (John5, Edward4, John3, Edward2, Edmund1), son of John5 and Sarah (Martin) Rice, born in Rutland, Aug. 6, 1757, married Mary or Polly, daughter of Benjamin and Mary Stearns, April 13, 1781. He was taxed in 1785, in Newton's district. She died Oct. 6, 1807, in Princeton, and he Dec. 23, 1845, ae. 89. Their children were:

He was a magistrate and representative to General Court. He died in Princeton, Sept. 2, 1825, and she May 6, 1850, ae. 89-7. Children:

RICHARDSON.


The Richardsons of Princeton descended from THOMAS1, who was probably from Norfolk, England. He was one of the seven men who united in the settlement of Woburn, Mass., and the formation of a church there in 1641, and was admitted a freeman of the colony May 2, 1638. The name of the wife of Samuel was Mary. After his death she married Michael Bacon, Senior, the ancestor of Dr. Leonard Bacon of New Haven. Nathaniel2, the youngest child of Thomas1 and Mary, was a soldier in the " King Philip's War " in Capt. Prentiss' troops of horse and was wounded in the "Great Swamp Fight," Dec. 19, 1675. He had a son James3, who married (Ist) Rebecca Eaton, (2ª) Elizabeth Arnold, and a grandson James4, who married Sarah Fowle.


RICHARDSON Col .- William5 (James4, James3, Nathaniel2, Thomas1), son of James4 and Sarah (Fowle) Richardson, born in Woburn, May 6, 1731, married about 1754, Esther Joslyn, daughter of John and granddaughter of Peter Joslyn, one of the early settlers of Lancaster. With his wife and seven children, Col. William came from Lancaster about 1770. He had been a leading man in Lancaster and it was largely through his efforts that the incorporation of the town of Princeton was effected. He was for a number of years Town Clerk, Select- man, Assessor and Justice of the Peace in Princeton, and a Col. in the Militia. He combined the business of merchant, or trader, and tailor with farming. His wife Esther died Oct. 13, 18II, and he Dec. 13, 1814, and both were buried in Princeton. Their children were:
