In Memoriam

WALTER F. TILTON

April 26, 1857 August 29, 1950

Mr. Tilton was born in Boston, Mass .. on April 26, 1857. He was one of Norwood's oldest and most beloved benefactors.

Mr. Tilton was a Selectman of the Town of Norwood from 1918 to 1921. In 1927 Mr. Tilton purchased for the Town of Norwood a set of 50 carillon bells made in Croyden, England.

At the time of the presentation Mr. Tilton stated, "It is my wish that this carillon may for all time serve as a memorial to, and a reminder of, the patriotic service of all citizens of Norwood who have given their lives, their health, their strength, their thought, their comfort and means, that this nation may live.

"It is my wish that these bells may keep fresh the memory of that sacrifice and service, and by such a reminder, ever sound the call of good citizenship."

Mr. Tilton's death will be recorded in history as the loss of one of the most distinguished and humane citizens to have lived in Norwood.
