Report of the Water Commissioners

We have pumped during the past year 103,287,900 gal- lons of which 24,046,529 gallons were sold to the Veterans' Hospital and 27,870,750 gallons to the State Sanitatorium. The total of all other meters was 23,442,633, accounting for 73 per cent. of the water pumped, which is about the average of other water departments. The Water Commissioners feel that a vast improvement has been made in this department both in regard to accounting for the water pumped and revenue received, which was $1649.31 more than last year, while expenses were $153.45 less than last year.

The financial report of the department for the year clos- ing December 31 is as follows:

There were inmates from these Towns during the year. Charlton, Rutland, Westminster, Millbury, Brookfield, West Boylston, Sterling, Auburn, Princeton, Paxton, Ashburnham, Leicester, Oakham, Holden, Warren, Hardwick, Boylston, East Brookfield, West Brookfield.

None from, Holland, New Braintree, Hubbardston, Berlin and Dana.

There were no boarders at the close of the year. Warden Frank Walker resigned in January and Howard D. Sargent was engaged as Warden. Many improvements were made about the farm and the piazza of the men's side was enlarged and enclosed with glass, affording a pleasant place for the men inmates in winter and on stormy days.
