The annual water carnival at Wessagussett Beach was supplemented this year, through the cooperation of the Boston Traveler in conjunction with President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Physical Fitness Program, in sup- plying awards and donating a sailboat to the Town.
The baseball and softball diamonds of Weymouth were scheduled to their capacity throughout the season. Evening supervision at the major parks added to the program.
The fall and winter programs carried on in the school gymnasiums were well attended with the addition of new activities.
This year saw the introduction of the Senior Citizens Recreation Program. Activities included special events and outings for all residents of the Town sixty years of age and over. A four day camping trip to New Hampshire and a Thanksgiving dinner for one hundred and twenty-five Senior Citizens are examples of events enjoyed by this group.
The Park Commission expresses its sincere appreciation to the vari- ous town officials and branches of our Town government for their co- operation, understanding and support in the promotion of a sound, pro- gressive and expanding recreation program.
Respectfully submitted, OTTO C. MASON, Chairman JOHN FISHER, Clerk JOSEPH D. SLATTERY WILLIAM F. KIRRANE, Director of Recreation

You will observe that in the various categories of relief, the amount requested for 1959 has either dropped or remained the same as the previous year.
Since appearing before your Board with my annual budget, the two changes I warned you about have been made official-namely, the per diem board and room rate for patients in convalescent homes, which has increased from $5.75 per day to $6.50 per day, effective January 1, 1959, and the cost of hospitalization, which has increased in varying amounts depending upon the hospital. The average increase will be $2.00 per day. These two items will show an increased expenditure especially on Old Age Assistance and Disability Assistance.
250
January 7, 1959
General Relief continues to remain at a low numerical level, and I will again continue to reduce the requested amount over last year, an- ticipating the year 1959 will present better employment opportunities than 1958, which will call for less expenditure.
In conclusion, I wish to thank both your Board and my staff for the excellent co-operation given me throughout the year.
Respectfully submitted, THOMAS P. DELAHUNT, Dept. of Public Welfare.
WORLD WAR II AND KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL COMMITTEE
75 Middle Street East Weymouth, Massachusetts January 15, 1959
Honorable Board of Selectmen Town Hall East Weymouth, Massachusetts
Gentlemen:
I wish to submit my first annual report as Chairman of World War II and Korean War Memorial Committee.
Several meetings were held during the year. At present, there are about 3400 names of veterans in the hands of the printer. There are ap- proximately 800 names still unaccounted for and missing from the town records, so you can readily see what a tremendous task this committee has undertaken.
All radio stations, newspapers, churches, clubs, military organizations and fraternal orders have been requested to assist in locating these miss- ing names of Weymouth veterans not in our records.
About February 1, 1959, each home will receive a copy of the names this committee now has and if any errors or omissions have taken place it is requested this committee be notified in writing at the Town Hall im- mediately.
Respectfully submitted,

REPORT OF THE ELECTRIC LIGHTING COMMITTEE
Weymouth, Mass.
December 31, 1958
This Committee has continued its usual contract to Light the Streets of the Town with the Weymouth Light and Power Company, with no change in rates per light.
The total number of lights in service is 2779 costing the Town about $5,900 per month, varying from the regular 100 C. P. lamps at $18.00 per year to the 21000 Lumen Mercury lamps at $100.00 per year.
We are having constant requests for larger lights, especially on the main thoroughfares and we have had a report from an Electrical Engineer with desirable changes indicated street by street. The estimate to light the Town properly will cost about two and one-half times our present budget.
During the year we have worked along those lines and hope to con- tinue in 1959 on Broad St., Commercial St., Washington St., Main St., and pleasant St.
We are asking for 1959 a budget of $76,114.
Back River Bridge remains unlighted as the State has not as yet in- stalled the fixture which they hope to do soon.
Respectfully submitted,
Chairman-Roger P. Loud, 171 Commercial St. Charles B. Turnesa, 592 Main St. Arthur W. Sargent, 34 Partridge Rd. Richard Reidy, 150 Lake St.
Clerk -J. Herbert Libbey, 283 North St.
