ARTICLE 35. (At the Request of Employees of Local 772). To see if the Town will vote to amend Article No. 4, Section 409 of the town by-laws by accepting changes in the Salary and Wage Scale designated as schedule No. 2 or take any other action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 36. (At Request of Weymouth Police Association). To see what action the Town will take relative to accepting Chapter 223 of the Acts of 1955 such act granting compensatory time off or compensation to Police Officers in attendance on criminal cases in various courts of the Commonwealth.

That the subject matter of this article be referred to the Personnel Board for study and report at a future Town Meeting.


MOVED the following substitute motion by Mr. Lane:

UNANIMOUSLY VOTED: That the Town vote to raise and appropri- ate the sum of $20,000.00 for the control of Dutch Elm disease under the requirements of Chap. 132 of the General Laws as most recently amended by Chap. 657, acts of 1956, said sum to be expended under the direction of the Board of Public Works. $20,000.00


ARTICLE 40. (At request of State Reclamation Board and by Direc- tion of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $500.00 for the purpose of maintaining during the ensuing year, the mosquito control works as estimated and certified to by the State Re- clamation Board in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 112, Acts of 1931.

UNANIMOUSLY VOTED: That the Town vote to raise and appro- priate the sum of $500.00 for the purpose of maintaining during the ensuing year the Mosquito Control Works as estimated and certified to by the State Reclamation Board in accordance with the provisions of Chap. 112, Acts of 1931. $500.00


ARTICLE 41. (At request of South Shore Mosquito Control Project and by Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to appro- priate by taxation or otherwise the sum of $8,000.00 for the Town's share in the South Shore Mosquito Control District, or take any other action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 43. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to raise or appropriate by taxation or otherwise the sum of $4,400 for the continuation of the seawall on Aspinwall Avenue, or take any other action in relation thereto.


MOVED by the Appropriation Committee:


That the Town vote to appropriate the sum of $4,400.00 for the con- tinuation of the sea wall 550 to 575 feet towards Fore River from the end of the present sea wall, said sum to complete this project and be expanded by the Board of Public Works.

That the Town raise and appropriate the sum of $4,400.00 for the con- tinuation of the sea wall on Aspinwall Avenue 550-575 feet towards Fore River from the end of the present sea wall, said sum to complete this pro- ject; provided further that an equal sum of money is provided by the State Department of Public Works to be used on the same project. It is further provided that said work be done under the direction of the Weymouth Board of Public Works and/or the Massachusetts Department of Public Works. $4,400.00

To see what sum of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate for the purchase, erection and maintenance of a snow fence along the north- erly side of Kirkland rd. from the Nevin School Bldg to No 62 or take any other action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 46. (At request of Wessagusett Beach Development Commit- tee). To see what sum of money the town will raise and appropriate, or appropriate, for the purpose of shore protection, sea walls, jetties, drain- age, beach development and cther improvements at Wessagusett Beach and Fort Point areas, or take any other action in relation thereto.


MOVED by the Appropriation Committee:


That the sum of $66,100.00 be raised and appropriated for the pur- pose of Shore Protection, sea walls, jetties, drainage, beach development and improvement, other improvements, engineering and contingencies and a Federal Erosion Board Survey at the Wessagusett Beach and Fort Point Areas, provided the State Department of Public Works under Chapter 91 shall provide a sum equal to or greater than $30,000.00 for such purposes; and to meet said appropriation $27,300.00 shall be raised by tax levy; $10,- 000.00 shall be re-appropriated from funds previously appropriated and available under Article 62 of the Annual Town Meeting of March 4, 1957 for sea wall construction; $20,800.00 shall be re-appropriated from funds previously appropriated and available from the major highway fund voted under Article 10 of the Annual Town Meeting of March 4, 1957, to be used for the re-building of Wessagusett Road and installation of necessary drainage; $8,000.00 shall be appropriated from the Excess and Deficiency Account for necessary water mains and sewer lines from North Street to Pilgrim Road; and it is further provided that such sums as may be con- tributed by the Federal Government shall be returned to the General Fund and provided further that the work shall be done under the direction of the committee and Board of Public Works and/or the State Department of Public Works.

ARTICLE 50. (At Request of Veterans Housing Playground Com- mittee). To see if the Town will vote to lease for park purposes and to be under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Works, certain land of the Weymouth Housing Authority, said land being shown on Plans 374B and 375B, dated November 11, 1957, and drawn by Arthur J. Bilodeau, Town Engineer, or take any other action in relation thereto.

Beginning at a point ninety-two feet (92') Southerly and perpendicu- lar to the Southerly sideline of Memorial Drive in line with the Easterly end of building No. 30 of the Weymouth Housing Project and running in a Southerly direction for a distance of fifty-three and 50/100 feet (53.5') to a chain link fence; thence turning and running along said chain link fence in a Southwesterly direction for a distance of one hundred fifty- five feet (155'); thence turning more Southerly and running along said chain link fence for a distance of one hundred twenty-one feet (121'); thence turning Easterly and running along said chain linke fence for a distance of ninety feet (90'); thence turning Northerly and running for a distance of one hundred twelve feet (112'); thence turning in an East- erly direction and running for a distance of one hundred thirty-two feet (132'); then turning in a Northerly direction and running for a distance of forty-four (44'); thence turning in an Easterly direction and running for a distance of fifty-eight feet (58') along the Southerly edge of paved play area; thence turning in a Northerly direction and running for a dis- tance of thirty-two feet (32') along the Easterly edge of said paved play area; thence turning in an Easterly direction and running for a distance of one hundred forty-five feet (145') to point of beginning; containing approximately 32,950 square feet. Together with the right to pass and repass over a right of way as shown on said plan in common with others having said rights.


ARTICLE 51. (At Request of the Veteran's Housing Playground Com- mittee). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $6,000.00 to develop and equip two playgrounds on the land to be leased from the Weymouth Housing Authority as described in the previous ar- ticle, or take any other action in relation thereto.

UNANIMOUSLY VOTED: That the Town vote to raise and appro- priate the sum of $2,000.00 to develop and equip the playground on the land to be leased from the Weymouth Housing Authority as described in the previous article; said sum to be expended by the Board of Public Works and/or the Park or Recreation Commissions. $2,000.00

ARTICLE 52. (At Request of the Weymouth Housing Authority). To see if the town of Weymouth acting pursuant to section 7 of Chapter 550 of the Acts of 1952, will empower the Weymouth Housing Authority to erect new housing for elderly persons by accepting Chapter 667 Acts of 1954 and Acts in amendment thereof and in addition thereto or take any other action, in relation thereto.

To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation, or otherwise, and appropriate, for the purpose of acquiring by gift, purchase, or take by right of eminent domain, in fee, for park purposes the lands shown on Plan 1058B of December 1957 by Town Engineer, Arthur J. Bilodeau, approximately 187,380 square feet, owned by the Bradley Park Develop- ment, Inc. Iccated southeasterly of River Street, or to take any other action in relation thereto.
