ARTICLE 52. (Petition of Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate by taxation, transfer from available funds and/or borrowing, for the purchase and installation of air-conditioning equipment in the offices of the several town buildings or take any other action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 58. (Petition of Thomas J. Donelan). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate by taxation, transfer from available funds and/or borrowing, the sum of Eight Hundred Dollars ($800.00) for payment to Thomas J. Donelan, under the provisions of Chapter 349, Acts of 1962, as damages by reason of taking of a certain parcel of land by eminent domain, the time having expired within which he could legally bring a petition in court for assessment of damages because of such land taking, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 59. (Request of John D. Martin Post V. F. W. 9260). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate by taxation, transfer from available funds and/or borrowing, the sum of Five Hundred Dol- lars ($500. 00) for the purpose of preparing complete drawing and detailed specifications for the purchase of a cast bronze plaque to be inserted on the War Memorial honoring the 2nd Nicaraguan Insurrection Veterans of the Town of Weymouth, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 60. (Petition). To see if the Town will accept Chapter 41, Section 103, General Laws, as amended, providing for the establishment of a Purchasing Department and appointment of a Purchasing Agent, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 61. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate by taxation, transfer from available funds and/or borrowing, a sum of money for a survey and study of town owned cemeteries and to study and determine the cost to the Town to own and operate certain privately

owned cemeteries, or take any other action in relation thereto. Said sum to be expended by the Committee appointed under Article 2 of the Special Town Meeting held Jan. 14, 1963.
ARTICLE 62. (Request of Chief of Fire Department). To see if the Town will vote to enact the following, which provides for the installation of automatic sprinklers in buildings, As a By-Law of the Town; "Any building or portion thereof, hereafter erected or altered, having more than 8, 000 square feet in any one floor area shall be provided with a complete and approved installation of automatic sprinklers and any building or portion thereof hereafter erected or altered, having more than 6, 000 square feet in any one floor area, and more than two stories in height, shall be pro- vided with a complete, approved installation of automatic sprinklers, provided that this shall not apply to any building of first class construc- tion throughout and in which no combustible material are kept, stored, sold, manufactured, processed or handled except in such small quantities as are usual for domestic use or for use in connection with and as inci- dent to some business other than such keeping, storing, selling, manu- facturing, processing or handling of combustibles. Any sprinkler system installed in accordance with this by-law shall comply with the standards of the National Board of Fire Underwriters and shall meet the approval of the Building Inspector of the Town, " or take any other action in re- lation thereto.
You are hereby required to notify and warn said inhabitants of Wey- mouth qualified to vote in Town affairs in case all the Articles in the foregoing warrant shall not have been acted upon at the meeting called for the Fourth day of March, 1963, to meet in adjourned session at the hall of the Weymouth High School on

TOWN OF WEYMOUTH ANNUAL TOWN MEETING MARCH 4, 1963
Pursuant to a Warrant duly issued, the Annual Town Meeting of the in- habitants of the Town of Weymouth, represented by their duly elected and qualified Town Meeting Members, was held in the auditorium of the Wey- mouth High School on Monday, March 4, 1963.
The Meeting was called to order at 7:45 o'clock in the evening by the Annual Moderator, Mr. Philip T. Jones.
The Town Clerk, Mr. Harry Christensen, read the Call of the Meeting. There were 211 Town Meeting Members present.
Upon motion duly made, it was
UNANIMOUSLY VOTED: That the reading of the Articles in the War- rant be suspended.
Prayer for Divine Guidance at this Annual Town Meeting was offered by Rev. Fr. Richard C. Conway, Curate of St. Francis Xavier R. C. Church, South Weymouth.
Town Meeting Members, not previously sworn, were administered the oath by the Moderator.
The Moderator declared a quorum present.
The Moderator recognized the presence of a group of students from Weymouth High School and Cambridge Latin High School who were present as part of the Student Government Exchange Program sponsored by the State Department of Education.
The Moderator also recognized the presence of Mr. John Canavan, Moderator of the Town Meeting in the Town of Braintree.
We now continue with consideration of the Articles in the Warrant.

MOVED by Mr. Lane to amend the motion by the Appropriation Com- mittee as follows:
That the Town vote to amend its Classification and Compensation Plan and to adopt under Grade PF-1 a new minimum of $5500 and a maximum of $6300 and to provide equivalent increases under Grades PF-1 through PF-5, for all permanent members of the Police and Fire Departments in- cluding fire alarm personnel and fire fighter mechanics, all in accordance with the terms of Chapter 46 of the Acts of 1963 and to take effect on January 1, 1963.
Discussion ensued involving Mr. Newton, Secretary of the Appropria- tion Committee, Mr. Lane, Mr. Amabile of the Board of Selectmen, and several citizens of the Town.

Upon request by the Appropriation Committee for unanimous consent to consider Article 35 at this time, and there being no objection, the Moderator ruled that Article 35 would be considered at this time.
ARTICLE 35. (Request of Personnel Board). To see if the Town will vote to accept the provisions of Chapter 147, Section 17A, General Laws, as amended, providing the additional day's pay for police officers required to work on certain legal holidays or take any other action in relation thereto.
Upon motion duly made by the Appropriation Committee, it was UNANIMOUSLY VOTED: No action.

ARTICLE 1. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate, by taxation, transfer from available funds, and/or borrow- ing, for the salaries, operation and expense during the current fiscal year of each of the following Town Departments and activities, necessary charges, and for unpaid bills of prior years.
Upon motion duly made by the Appropriation Committee, it was
UNANIMOUSLY TENTATIVELY VOTED: To provide for all expenses of maintenance and operation of each of the Town's certain improvements, and to meet certain requirements of the law, the several sums hereinafter set forth are hereby appropriated for the several purposes and subject to the conditions specified, all such sums to be raised by taxation in the levy of the current year, unless some other source of revenue is expressed. Step Rate increases to be effective from April 1, 1963 for employees hired prior to November 1, 1962. Employees hired after November 1, 1962 shall not be entitled to a step rate increase until April 1, 1964.

MOVED the following substitute motion by Mr. Lopaus, Town Treasurer: Item 4. For the Town Treasurer's Department.
The salary of the Treasurer is hereby fixed at $6, 895. 20. Of the total sum appropriated, not exceeding $15, 968. 08 shall be for the personal services of $29,230. 200 the Department.
