Became attracted by problem presented by rellgious and social needs of cotton operatives. Soon became minister of St. Mark's, Fall River, and bullt new church on large piece of land in factory dist., with a view of putting views Into practical operation. Be- came rector of chapel, and labored earnestly and successfully among these people until 1893. During that period became prominent in Fall River affairs, serving on school committees and furthering various philanthropic and edn'l works. Also acted as rector of Christ Church, Swansea. When Dr. Winchester Donald (Phillips Brooks' successor at Trinity) left the pulpit of Ch. of Ascension, in N. Y. City, 1893, Dr. Grant was asked to become its rector. Assumed charge on condition that the pews should be free and the church open every day. The result of this change was most encouraging; the increase in attendance and income has been remarkable. In winter of 1899-1900 was hon. sec. and chaplain to Bishop Potter in trip around the world. Publications: three volumes of verse and two of prose, Ad Matrem and Other Poems.
