THE FORTY-FIRST OHIO INFANTRY.
COMPANY F.
During May and June, 1861, Ephraim S. Holloway enlisted about half a company of men in Mahoning county. They were not taken into camp until October 9, when Holloway reported, with his men, at Camp Wood. There a union was effected with a company partly filled, enlisted under D. S. Leslie, in Lorain and Ottawa counties. Leslie was made Captain; Hol- loway, First Lieutenant, and John D. Kirkendall, Second Lieutenant. The union of the two bodies of men made a full company.
This was one of the strong companies of the regiment. Not only was it strong in numbers, but the men were rugged and hardy, with capacity for great endurance. It was admirably fitted for its position of second company in the line, having many men above the average stature-a solid, heavy com- pany, a safe reliance in time of emergency. The death roll shows something of the service performed by this company, but not the whole. From first to last it was one of the stronger companies.
