Ordered, That the Sloop Betsy, Capt. Nathaniel Prudden, late from Bermuda, be permitted to take on board, for her Stores, four barrels of Bread, four bbls of Flour, barrels of Beef, four barrels of pork & Six Kegs of Biscuit.


Pass to Boston given to Ezra Cole & Dav'd Kean, Seamen.


A proposal from James Hopkins respecting the searching the Wrecks in Delaware, being read and considered ;


Ordered, That Mr. James Hopkins be permitted to search the Wrecks in the River Delaware, & take up whatever may be found there, & that the Gallies in the Service of the State give him as- sistance therein on the following terms, Viz : That one-Third of the proceeds be accounted for to the State, One-Third for the bene- fit of the Officers & Men of the Gallies, & the remainder for the use of Mr. Hopkins, And that an Order do issue for £128, speci- fying the application thereof, to be for providing a number of Ar- ticles necessary for the said attempt, to be repaid out of the first Articles which shall be found ; & an Order was drawn on the Trea- surer in favor of the said James Hopkins for the Sum of One Hun- dred & Twenty-Eight Pounds.

MINUTES OF THE


Ordered, That the Sloop Experiment, Stafford Dickinson Master, be permitted to take on board, for her Stores, four barrels of Bread or Flour, four barrels of Pork, four barrels of Beef, & six Kegs of Biscuit.


Petition of Peter Clark, a disabled Galley-man, praying to be allowed Rations instead of Money, was read & referred to Dr. Hutchinson, to enquire into the state of the Petitioner & report to this Board what condition he is in, & whether the petitioner's dis- orders have not proceeded from intemperance rather than any natu- ral cause.


Application having been made yesterday by Charles Petit, Esq'r, Assistant Q'r M'r General, for One hundred Waggons, for the transportation of Stores from the city to Susquehanna, for the in- tended expedition against the Indians, & relief of the Frontiers;


Resolved, That a Warrant do issue to the Waggon Master of Philadelphia County for Sixty Waggons, & the like Warrant to the Waggon Master of Chester County for Forty Waggons.


A Letter from Charles Petit, Esq'r, Assistant Q'r M'r General, requesting a like warrant to issue to the Waggon Masters of North- ampton & Berks to supply such numbers of Waggons as Gen'l Sul- livan or Col. Hooper, D. Q. M. G., may require, or a limited num- ber not expressed.


Ordered, That the consideration thereof be postponed 'til the Afternoon, & that Mr. Petit be desired to meet the Council at 5 o'clock this Afternoon.


A Return of Militia Oficers, chosen in the County of Chester, Viz : 5th Company of 2nd Battalion, Capt., John Bryan ; first Lieu., Robert Thompson ; Second Lieu., John Power; Ensign, John Douglass. Elected April 26, 1779.


Ordered, That Commissions be accordingly issued.


A representation from John Knox, in behalf of the Companies sweeping the Rivers, that they had five Nine Pound Cannon & an Anchor of Scwt. or 9cwt., & requesting to know if the Council chuse to purchase them.


Ordered, That the said Company be informed that the Council have not any present occasion to purchase them, & that they are at liberty to sell them, accounting to the State for its proportion.


A Letter from Rob't Morris, Esq'r, requesting a recommenda- tion for Rach'l Edwards to pass into New York not to return :


Ordered, That the said Rachel Edwards have a recommendation accordingly, she giving security not to return without special per- mission from this Council. And also to Mary Lucas on like con. dition And also to Mary Compton on like condition

A Letter from the President of Congress, of the 19th, inclosing a resolve of Congress respecting Bermuda, of the 18th instant.


The Petition of Thomas Crouch, now confined in the Goal of Reading, & under sentence of Death, praying pardon or reprieve, was read and rejected.


John Creigh, Esq'r, one of the Justices for the County of Cum- berland, attended & resigned his authority as a Justice of the Peace of the said County, & the resignation was thereupon accepted.


Ordered, That Capt. Joseph Stiles, Commissary of Military Stores, do deliver to the Hon'ble Matthew Smith, or order, Five hundred Weight of Gunpowder, & One Thousand five hundred Weight of Lead, to be deposited in the hands of Col. Elder, Sub- Lieu of the County of Lancaster, for the use of the Militia.

A Letter from the President of Congress, dated 22d instant, in- closing a resolution of Congress for calling in Forty-five Millions of Dollars, was read and ordered to be filed.


Maj. Gen'l St. Clair having recommended Rob't Hamilton & Abraham Kinney, Gentlemen, as proper persons to be Ensigns in the Third Reg't,


Resolved, That they be recommended to the Board of War to be Commissioned accordingly. Mr. Hamilton's Commission to bear prior date one day.


Mr. Parr, in behalf of himself & partner, having requested per- mission to sell at vendue a quantity of Claret,

MINUTES OF THE


Resolved, That the same cannot be granted, Vendues being ex- pressly prohibited by Law, except in particular cases.


A Letter from Col. Carothers, Lieu. of Cumberland County, in- closing his Commission as Lieutenant, & requesting to resign the same.


Resolved, That the President acquaint Mr. Carothers that his resignation at this time will be inconvenient, & that as there is no Member of this Board for Cumberland, he be requested to continue in the Office until the Council consider farther, & have an oppor- tunity to enquire for a suitable person to succeed him. -


A Letter of the same nature from James Gregory, Esq'r, Sub- Lieutenant, was also read to the same purpose.


Resolved, That the same Answer be given.


Mr. Sprogell, Muster Master of the State, made a return of the Seamen & Marines belonging to the Ship Gen'l Green, the former amounting to 83 Men, including Officers, & the latter to 29-Total, 112.
