The gathering of Obituaries in book form was compiled throught the efforts of the Clan Diggers Genealogical Society of the Kern River Valley, with the permission of the publishers of the 'Kern Valley Sun' newspaper. Mamie F. Hendricks
Memorial services were held Thursday, November 17, 1994 at the Library in Lake Isabella for Mamie F. Hendricks of Lake Isabella. Mamie was born August 17, 1913 in St. Joseph, Missouri and passed away November 9, 1994 in Mt. Mesa.
Mamie was married to Steve Hendricks in 1932 and had 49 years together until he passed away in 1981. She was a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in San Jose for 20 years before retiring in 1978. Mamie was a member of the NARF, Senior Nutrition, the Clan Diggers and the NSDAR.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Alice and Cecil Dale of Lake Isabella; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Judy Hendricks of Mt. View, Calif .; also many neices and nephews and grand neices and grand nephews. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary
NSDAR
The Kawaiisu chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a memorial service for Mamie Hendricks on Nov 17 at the Library in Lake Isabella. The service was presented by Marian Adkins, Regent. Attending the service were her sister, Alice and Cecil Dale of Lake Isabella and family, brother-in-law John and Marie Hendricks of Mt. View, Calif., and family; and three neices, Mamme and Mike Markieviez of Albuquerque, N.M. and family, Janet and Robert Gibson of San Jose and family, and Cherrie Rubnankara and son of Sacramento. Also present were many friends and members of the NARF, Clan Diggers, NSDAR, and Senior Nutrition. Mamie was a charter member of the Senior Nutrition organization. Nadelle Getting announced that Mamie's name would be placed on a plaque at the Senior Center in Lake Isabella. Mamie was an active and faithful member of our chapter. The offices she held in four years as a member were Chaplain, Registrar, Lineage Research, Membership and press book chairman. During the memorial service red, white, and blue carnations were placed by our members. The hall was decorated in red, white, and blue. Refreshments were served by Phyllis Piper and Marge Laskowski.

Mrs. Crum
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 22 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Lucille Crum, 67, who died Dec. 19 of heart disease in her Lake Isabella home. Internment followed in Kern Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Louis Gerdes officiating.
Mrs. Crum was born June 20, 1906 in Cisco, Texas. She had lived in Kern Valley with her husband for five years.
Her husband died one week after her death.
She is survived by her brother, H. Frank Meadows of San Angelo, Texas; and her sister Mrs. J.W. Patterson of Castroville, Texas.
Crum
Graveside services were held Dec. 29 at Kern Valley Cemetery for James Crum, 64, who died Dec. 26 at his home. The Kern River Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars officiated.
Crum was born Oct. 13, 1908 in Idaho. He was a retired grip man for RKO Studios in Burbank. He has lived in California 45 years, including five years in Lake Isabella.
Crum is survived by one brother, Robert Crum of Burbank.
Determination of cause of death has not been made because toxicological studies by the Kern County Coroner's office have not been completed.
Grasse
Funeral services were conducted for Philip W. Grasse, 67, of South Lake Estates, on Jan. 2 at Scovern Mortuary in Glendale.
Grasse died of valley fever Dec. 27 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.
He had lived in the valley for three years. He was born in Paonia, Colorado and worked for Security Termite Control Service in Glendale for 30 years.
He was a member of the Order of Moose Glendale Lodge 641 and Woodsmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Grasse, of South Lake Estates; two sisters: Mildred Karpowski and Gladys Crawford, both of Colorado; and one brother, Leo Grasse of Colorado.

Fleming
Graveside funeral services were conducted Thursday at Rose Hills in Whittier for Mrs. Ina Fleming, 74, of Wofford Heights.
Mrs. Fleming was born in Arkan- sas, came to California about 55 years ago, lived in Maywood 33 years and last lived in Wofford Heights.
She was a past president of Maywood American Legion Post Auxillary No. 223 and a Southeast Gold Star Mother.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; a daughter, Mary Fleming of Dow- ney; a son, Bruce of Covina; a grandson, Dean Fleming of Downey; and three sisters of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Werner
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 2 at the Weldon United Methodist Church for Marjorie Werner, 65 who died Dec. 30 in Ridgecrest Community Hospital of natural causes.
Internment followed in Kern Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Stahnke and members of the Ridgecrest Eastern Star officiating.
Mrs. Werner was born Sept. 19, 1907 in Chicago, Ill. She has lived in Kern County 27 years, and was the retired owner of the Cane Brake Inn. She owned the inn 17 years. Prior to that she worked in housing on China Lake Naval Air Base. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Werner is survived by her husband, Herbert "Slim" Werner, of Onyx; two sons: Kurt Werner of Van Nuys, and Herbert Werner of Buena Park; her daughter, Mrs. Wanda Gallio of Ontario; three brothers: Tilford Land of Novato, Ca, Kenneth Land, and James Land of Pennsylva- nia, two sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Stevenson of Illinois, and Jean Clifford of Mill Valley, Ca; and three grandchildren.

Bradbury
Private funeral services were conducted recently for Ethel Brad- bury, 90, who died Dec. 31 of natural causes. Burial was in a family plot in San Luis Obispo.
Mrs. Bradbury was born In Al- bright, West Virginia In 1882. She and her husband had lived in Fairview for 20 years. Bradbury passed away in 1965. Mrs. Bradbury has lived with her daughter for the past three years at their home in Fairview.
Mrs. Bradbury is survived by three daughters: Olive Hosford of San Francisco; Mary Ritchery of San Luis Obispo; and Dorothy Worthington of Fairview; and her sister Kay Haynes of Fairview.
Sullivan
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 9 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for for Anna Marie Sullivan, 69, who died Jan. 7 of natural causes in Beverly Manor Guest Home in Bakersfield. Internment followed in Kern Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Archie Miller officiating.
Mrs. Sullivan, more commonly known as "Wormy Annie," was born December 26, 1903, in Ohio. She has lived In Bodfish for 25 years where she owned a little antique shop just this side of the flume for 20 years, until she became ill and retired. She was the 1971 Lady of the Lake.
Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her sister Blanche Brock of Ontario, Calif.

Ruth E. Miller
Graveside services were conducted Jan. 15 at Little Lake Cemetery in Santa Fe Springs, Ca. for Ruth Elva Miller, 75, who died Jan. 11 at Kern General Hospital in Bakersfield of natural causes. The Anaheim Rebe- kah Lodge officiated.
Mrs. Miller was born Dec. 13, 1897 in Norwalk, Ca. She had lived 75 years in California, 12 years of which were spent in the valley. Mrs. Miller was a member of Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Miller of Lake Isabella; two sisters: Edna Chamberlin of North Hollywood; and Ellen Johnston of Payette, Idaho; and a foster daugh- ter, Jean Marie Miller of Lake Isabella.
Glenn Bennett
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 12 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Glenn Roy Bennett, 64, who died Jan. 9 in Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield of natural causes. Internment followed at Kern Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Brown officiating. Sololst was Ruth Denney.
Bennett was born March 25, 1908. He was a retired barber. Bennett lived in the state 30 years and in the valley 18 months, at which time he resided at 4120 Balboa in Lake Isabella.
He is survived by two daughters: Glenda Doughman of Yreka, Ca; and Barbara Jostrom of Markola, Ore .; seven brothers: Raymond of Lake Isabella; Alfred of Duman, Texas; George of Carnagie, Okla .; Leo of Tucumcari, N.M .; Oriville of Amaril- lo, Texas; Eugene of Cyril, Okla .; and Ralph of Oklahoma City; two sisters: Verna Tulley of Carnagie, Okla .; and Floy Pitt of Hydro, Okla .; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Norman Halver- son, Elwin Vernon, Howard Curry, Burt Clements, Hollis Roland, and his two sons-in-law, Doughman and Jostrom.

Audrey Hall
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 31 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Audrey Hall, 56, who died Jan. 29 in her home of a heart attack. Local order of the Eastern Star officiated. Internment is today at the Hollywood, Cemetery in los Angeles.
Mrs Hall was born in Los Angeles, December 19, 1916. She had lived In the area six years, and was owner of Don's Crossroads for the first five. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Golden Slippers, and resided at 2716 Steenson Street in Lake Isabella.
Survivors incluide her husband, Harry, of Lake Isabella; a daughter, Patricia Mac Gregor of Camarillo; her mother. Margaret Whitcomb of Los Angeles; and three grand- children.
Margaret Smith
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 29 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Margaret Anna Smith, 69, who died an. 27 at Kern Valley Hospital of a art attack. Internment was Jan. 30 Kern Valley Cemetery with the Rev Willard Vanfossen officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born May 8, 1903 in Connecticut. She was a retired lab technician for Unitek Corporation In Monrovia, Ca. She had lived In the valley two and a half years and during that time was a member of the Kern River Valley Gem and Mineral Society. Mrs. Smith resided at No. 1 Dawn Place in Southlake.
Survivors include her husband Troy of Southlake; a son Francis Murphy of Connecticut; two daughters; June White of Montebello, Ca., and Margaret McMasters of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister, Lillian Fryer of Chicago, Ill .; and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Ted Johnson
Mrs. Ted Johnson, a former long time resident of the Kern River Valley, passed away Jan. 21 at Grover City. Services were held Jan. 25 at Greenlawn Chapel, Bakersfield with Rev. Dale Brown officiating.
Lila and Ted Johnson moved to this Valley early in the fifties and built a home in Kernvale after Ted retired from the city of Beverly Hills, where he had charge of all automotive equipment.

C. J. 'Gus' Roussin
Rosary will be held this evening at Valley Mortuary Chapel for C.J. "Gus" Roussin, 75, who died at Kern Valley Hospital Feb. 5. Requiem Mass will be at St. Judes Church in Wofford Heights, 10:30 a.m. Friday. Intern- ment will follow at Kern Valley Cemetery.
Roussin was a native of El Paso, Tex. He was a veteran of World War I, where he served in the Navy as a radio officer. and also of WW II where he served with the Air Forces in the Pacific Theater as a communications Officer. He was a member of Hollywood legion Post No. 43 for 50 years, and a member of Carpenters Union Local No. 1052. Roussin had been a resident of Mountain Mesa for nine years.
Survivors include his wife Edna: and relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Outhier and Martha J Morehouse.

John B. Mathis
Services for John B. Mathis Jr., 69, Lake Isabella, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Hillcrest Memorial Chapel in Bakersfield, with Rev. R. Dale Brown, First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella, officiating.
Internment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakers- field. Mathis died February 12 in a Bakersfield hospital. Survivors in- clude his wife, Pearl; two sons, Don, Whittier, Ca .; Allen, Cerritos, Ca., and two daughters, Mrs. Bobby Jean Monds, Downey, and Mrs. Sue Eicher, Lake Isabella.
Mathis also leaves to mourn his death, three brothers, two sisters and eight grandchildren. The deceased was a resident of Lake Isabella for the past seven years.
Hillcrest Mortuary, Bakersfield, is in charge of arrangements.

OBITUARY
Ronald J. Zimmerman
Ronald Zimmerman was born in Los Angeles in 1916, and died February 18, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Orange, Callf.
In 1963 Ronald, and his wife Louise, purchased property in Wofford Heights and built a home, moving to the Valley permanently in 1964.
He joined the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Kernville Lodge No. 251 in 1968, and at the time of his death was Vice-Grand of the Lodge.
In 1967 Ronald became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 7665, and was Adjutant in 1968-89.
He assisted in organizing the Kern Valley Historical Society, was a Past President of that organization. During World War II, Ronald served his country as an Anti-aircraft Gunner, and he also served nine years in the National Guard.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Peak Family Mortuary, Westminister, Calif. Services will be held in the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24. The Independent Order of Oddfellows will conduct the Chapel service with Raymond Kirkpatrick. Noble Grand; Eddie Metz, Chaplain; and Leland Scott will give the Eulogy. Pall bearers will be: Leland Scott, Charles Newberry, Gus Suhre, Leo Veale, Sim Barnes, and Wm. Coombs. Graveside services will be conduct- ed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7665, assisted by their Ladies Auxiliary, World War II Barracks No. 1841, and Disabled American Vet- erans Chapter No. 54.

GRAVESIDE RITES HELD FOR PIONEER RESIDENT
Graveside services were held Tues- day for Mrs. Walker'Rankin, 81 of Walker Basin, member of a pioneer Kern County family for whom many landmarks in the Southern San Joa- quin Valley are named. Services were 2 p.m. at graveside on the Walker Rankin Ranch in Walker Basin. Mrs. John Eckhardt officiated.
Mrs. Rankin was born Oct. 23, 1891 on the Nicholas John Williams Ranch in Walker Basin. She was clerk of the board of the Caliente School from 1951-1952 and was awarded a certifi- cate of recognition and appreciation as a trustee of the Caliente Union School District. She also was awarded the Golden Apple, a teaching award. Well known for her cooking, she was active as a member of the Cow Belles and instrumental in the compilation of the organization's cook book, Chuck's On, first published about 15 years ago. The Cow Belles, Kern County Cattle- men's Auxiliary, named her Cow Belle of the Year in 1965.
Mrs. Rankin also was active in working for the Indians in the area by helping to secure their lands. She instituted a campaign to raise money to be used to repurchase land origi- nally sold from them. The land is now governed by a board for the Indians for their use.
She also was an active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Wofford Heights and past president of the 7th District PTA.
Mrs. Walker and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anni- versary at the Rankin Ranch in 1964. Survivors include the widower; 2 daughters, Alice Rankin Beard of El Paso, Tex. and Raechell Rankin Parker of Honolulu, Hawaii; 7 grand children, Rob Roy Rankin Beard, John Rankin Beard, Walker Rankin Beard, William Rankin Parker, Dodge Rankin Parker, Mary Lou Beard, Linda Lou Parker Meadows 4 great-grandchildren; a brother L.E. Williams of Caliente; 2 sisters, Vir- ginia Black of Caliente and Beatrix Rowley of Fallbrook.
Pallbears were her grandsons and sons-in-law, Robert W. Beard and William F. Parker.

OBITUARY
Margie Page
Margie Page, co-founder of the Kern Valley Sun, passed away last week at the Downey Community Hospital in Downey after a long illness.
With her husband, Jim, she helped to establish Page Products Inc., an advertising specialty manufacturing company which is still in business in South Gate, Calif. Following semi- retirement from this activity in 1959 the couple came to the Valley, built the building in Kernville presently occupied by the Sun, installed a complete printing plant, and began publication of the paper in November of that year.
She was active in the management of the paper for two years, until it was sold to new publishers in December, 1961, but maintained her residence in the Valley for several years, until her health made it impossible for her to travel back and forth from Downey any longer.
She was born in Spokane, Washing- ton, on March 12, 1903, and was married on May 29, 1924 in Los Angeles. There are two children; a son Gordon and a daughter Patricla, and four grandchildren.
In accordance with her specific instructions there was no funeral. Following cremation, her ashes were strewn over the ocean.

William I. Stewart
Rosary will be said on Thursday, March 15 at 8 pm at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Bakersfield, for William 1. Stewart, 69, who passed away on March 13 at the Shady Manor Convalesant Hospital in Bakersfield. Mass will be said at 10 am on Friday and interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park
Stewart was born August 15. 1903 in Weir, Mississippi and moved to Kern County 42 years ago He was Post- master in Kernville for 22 years and was a resident of the Valley for 30 years. For a time he was a probation officer at Camp Owen. He was a charter president of the Kernville Lion's Club and a charter member of the Kernville Rotary Club.
Stewart is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Bakersfield; one daugh- ter, Joan S Aldrich of Glendale; one brother. Joseph M. of San Luis Obispo; and two sisters, Mrs. J.J. Lowe and Mrs. Clark Jackson, both of Mississippi. Arrangements by Hill- crest Mortuary.

OBITUARY
Milburn E. Jackson
Services were held at the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella on Tuesday, March 20 at 1 p.m. for Milburn E. ( Bud) Jackson, 60, of Lake Isabella who passed away on March 16 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Rev. Dale Brown officiated at the memor- ial rites. Interment followed at the Kern Valley District Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Jackson was born July 31, 1912 in Missouri. He lived in the state of Illinols for nearly 25 years before moving to California. In Los Angeles he was employed as a construction inspector and for eight years he worked for the City of Los Angeles as a building inspector.
Bud loved to hunt and fish and he had been a regular visitor to the Kern River Valley since 1957. In May, 1966, Bud and Edna opened Jackson's Ready To Wear in Lake Isabella and became friendly and familiar mem- bers of the community. Bud was a charter member of the Elks Lodge, and an active and enthusiastic direc- tor In the Lake Isabella Chamber of Commerce and the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce. He partici- pated In all civic affairs and took a deep interest in the growth of the Valley.
He Is survived by his mother, Mrs. Carrie Jackson, Bakersfield; his wi- dow, Edna; two sons, Robert of Las Vegas and Richard of Los Angeles; one brother, William C. Jackson of San Juan Puerto Rico; and four grandchildren. Arrangements by Val- ley Mortuary.
Thomas G. Gribbin
Services were held at the Valley Mortuary Chapel on March 19 for Thomas George Gribbin, 65, of Lake Isabella. Rev. Willard Vanfossen officiated at the chapel service and the Brothers of B.P.O.E. No. 2358 conducted the graveside ceremony. Interment followed in the Kern Valley District Cemetery.
Gribbin was born in Sacramento, California on December 9, 1907 and he passed away on March 15 at the Kern Valley Hospital. He had lived in the Kern River Valley since 1951 and retired after 15 years as Group Supervisor at Camp Owen. Gribbin served in the United States Navy for four years and was discharged in 1944. He was a member of the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Opal of Lake Isabella; one brother, William Gribbin of Lancaster; one sister, Mrs. Frances Pappen of Coffeyville, Kan- sas; one daughter, Delores Martin of Rialto; two stepsons, Richard Carl- berg of Omaha and Donald Carlberg of Waterloo, Iowa; and eleven grand- children and one great grandchild. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
Jacquelyn Blomgren
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 30 in the Calvary Chapel, 3730 Greenville Ave., Santa Ana for Mrs. Jacquelyn Vir- ginia Blomgren, 44, who died March 26. Rev. Charles Smith will officiate at the chapel services and interment will follow at Westminster Memorial
Park.
Mrs. Blomgren was born on Sep- tember 12, 1928 in California, she was killed instantly in a single vehicle traffic accident early Monday even- ing, March 26, in Long Beach.
She is survived by her husband. Richard, of Lake Isabella; her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest B. Webb of Seal Beach; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Carroll of Los Angeles one sister, Pattie Jean Webb of Sea Beach; one son, Robert L. Mary M. Crowder
Funeral services were conducted March 31 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Mary Marguerite Crowder, 77, who died March 28 in Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield. Interment followed in Kern Valley Cemetery with the Rev Mark Stahnke officiat- ing.
Mrs. Crowder was born in Coffee- ville, Kansas Sept. 27, 1895. She was a retired office manager in Redondo, and an eight year resident of the valley. She made her home at 2125 Reeder, Lake Isabella. Mrs. Crowder was an active member of the 55 Plus Club.
Survivors include her husband, Willis Earl; her daughter, Ruth Martin of Redondo Beach; and three grandchildren.

Services were held at the Valley Mortuary Chapel on April 4 for Carl Edward Craft, 52, who passed away on March 30 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Rev. Willard Vanfossen, pastor of the Kernville Community Methodist Church, officiated at the service. Interment followed in the Kern Valley District Cemetery at Wofford Heights.
Craft was born on April 11, 1920 in Illinois. He came to California in 1923 and at the time of his death he was a retired machinist. He had worked for many years for Drake Brothers in Maywood, California. He had lived in the Valley only three months.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene of Onyx; one son, Jim Dobbins of Onyx; one daughter, Evelyn Lane of Hacien- da Heights; one sister, Helen Miller of Southgate; and fourteen grandchil- dren.
Robert T. Wilson
Graveside services were held at the Kern River Valley Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, April 2, 1973 in memory of Robert Ted Wilson, 68, of Bodfish. The service was directed by Sister Jeannette Kastorff, C.A. of the Episcopal Church Army.
Mr. Wilson passed away on March 28 in Van Nuys and memorial services were held in the Good Shepherd Chapel of J.T. Oswald Mortuary in North Hollywood. Father James E. Fenwick, pastor of St. Davids Episco- pal Church in North Hollywood offl- ciated.
Born in Jackson, Ohio, May 16, 1905, "Ted" lived most of his life in Wheeling, West Virginia until coming to Southern California in 1957.
A member of the Teamsters Union for more than 42 years, he was truly a "Knight of the Road". He received three meritorious awards from the National Saftey Council, many annual awards from FRUEHAUF Truck and Trailer Co. representing 100,000 ac- cident free miles traveled in their employ.
