Born in Fredonla, Kansas, Septem- ber 25, 1918, she lived in Lake Isabella the past four years.


She is survived by her two sisters, Pauline Stark and Nora Duffey, both of Lake Isabella.

He was born in Alameda, February 16, 1909, and was a retired serviceman for Firestone Tires. He lived In Wofford Heights the past 6 years.


He is survived by his wife, Louise of Wofford Heights; two sons, Alfred Koegel, Jr., of Inglewood and James Koegel of Wofford Heights; and one grandchild.

Services were conducted by Valley Mortuary Monday, July 19, at Green- lawn Memorial Park in Bakersfield for Nellie R. Heryford, 60, who died July 14 at Kern Valley Hospital. Rev. Jack Peacock officiated.


She was born in Berkeley, Novem- ber 13, 1915 and was a 25-year resident of Kernville.


She Is survived by her husband, Theodore Heryford of Kernville.

Cyclist Is Killed


The sixth traffic fatality was re- corded Friday, July 16 when a 25-year-old Kernville man apparently lost control of his motorcycle and hit an embankment on Burlando Road.


California Highway Patrol officer Jim Malouf reported that David Williams was headed south on Bur- lando Road in Kernville at approxi- mately 6 p.m., when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck the em- bankment.


Bohn's Ambulance of Kernville responded to the call and Williams was pronounced dead on arrival at Kern Valley Hospital at 6:20 p.m.

Elva Lee Raynor


Services were held at White's ! uneral Home in Bellflower, the i lower Garden Chapel, for Elva Lee Kaynor, 44, of Rock Haven Trailer Park in Wofford Heights, who died August 4. Interinent followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier. Dr. Harold Baker officiated.


Born in Oklahoma, November 16, 1931, she was a professional cook and previously owned a restaurant. She was an active member of Lady Elks and Lady Eagles. She had lived in the valley the past two years.


She is survived by her husband, Ted of Wofford Heights; two sons, James Hamm of San Diego and Robert Hamm of Oklahoma; and three grandchildren.


George Hartman


Services were held at Valley Mor- tuary Chapel in Lake Isabella Mon- day, August 16, for George E. Hart- man, 62, who died August 11 at Kern Valley Hospital. Rev. Myron B. Good- year officiated. Interment followed at Kern Valley Cemetery.


Born in Oklahoma, September 3, 1913, he was a retired machinist with Harvey Aluminum. He lived in Cali- fornia the past thirteen years, the last four of which he resided in Bodfish.


He Is survived by eleven children: five sons, Jimmy, Johnny, Charles, Thomas, and Danny; six daughters, Patricia Vaughn, Edna Jones, Shirley Haff, Kay Hartman, Karen Hartman, and Sharon Furhman; his brother, Thomas Earl Hartman; and forty grandchildren.

Donovan Gouldin


Services were held August 13 at the Kernville United Methodist Church for Donovan F. Gouldin, 68, 126 Sirretta, Kernville, who passed away August 11 at Kern Valley Hospital. Burial at Kern Valley District Ceme- tery followed. Rev. Myron B. Good- year officiated.


Mr. Gouldin was owner of the Kernville Telephone Company from 1945 to 1958. Hlc lived in the Kern Valley for 31 years and was a member of the Libertas Masonic Lodge No. 466, Bakersfield.


He was a past president of the Kernville Lions Club and a past noble grand and district deputy grand master of the Oddfellows Lodge.


Mr. Gouldin was born in Omaha, Nebraska, August 4, 1908.


He is survived by his wife, Edith; a son, Lee Gouldin, Tempe, Arizona; a daughter, Kay Walker, Onyx; and six grandchildren.

Memorial service was conducted at Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella Saturday, August 21, for Virgil Chase, 62, who died August 17 in his home. Rev. H.B. Long officlated. Private cremation followed.


A native of Liberty, Kansas, he was born October 8, 1913. He was a resident of Lake Isabella the past nineteen years, living forty-two years in the state.


The retired driller, self-employed while in the valley, is survived by his daughter, Linda Danville of Newbury Park.

Services were held at Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella Friday, August 20, for Elmer Phillips, 80, who died August 18 at Kern Valley Hospital. Graveside services were conducted at Glen Abbey Memorlal Park in Chula Vista, Monday, August 23.


Born October 11, 1895, in Tennessee, he was a five-year resident of Lake Isabella and lived twenty-three years in the state. He was a retired kennel attendant at Coronado Veterinary Hospital.


He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Roy Phillips of Kernville, and Wayne Phillips of Vancouver, Washington; four sisters, Addie May- nord of Baxter, Tennessee, Mrs. J. A native of Arkanaas, he resided in Kern County forty-two years. He was a grader operator in road main- tenance, last employed in California City.

Woman Killed In L.1.


A 73-year-old Bodtish woman was killed in a head-on crash in Lake Isabella and numerous injuries were reported in other accidents on Kern Valley highways this week.


Lovena Moulton Whitney of Bodfish was driving her '69 'l'oyota eastbound on Lake Isabella Boulevard near Young Avenue Tuesday, August 24, when the car drifted over the center line and struck a '59 Chevy driven by Clifford Duffin of Mt. Mesa. Duffin was not injured and his passenger, Dave Dunn, Mt. Mesa, suffered minor facial lacerations


Reports by Officer Verbie Pierce stated that Lovena Whitney was pro- nounced dead on arrival at Kern Valley Hospital, the seventh highway fatality in the past eight months.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald of Kernville; her son, David Baldwin of Garden Grove; her dau- ghter, Joan Baldwin of Fountain Valley; her sister, Nancy Tivvis of Kernville; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tues- day, September 14, at Kern Valley Cemetery for James Martin Leming, 82, who died September 11 at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield. Rev. Myron B. Goodyear officiated.


He was born in Seary County, Arkansas, February 3, 1893, and had been a resident of Lake Isabella the past four years. He had been a carpenter thirty years and a member of the carpenter's union.


He is survived by his son, Bobby Wayne Leming of Walnut Creek; four daughters, Maryann Bishop of Big Springs, Texas, Helen Le Banne of Torrance, Nel Beard of Lake Isabella, and Pat Japlin of Sacramento; seven grandchildren and twelve great · grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, Sep- tember 25 at First Baptist Church for Hollis H. Roland, Lake Isabella, who died at Kern Valley Hospital following a short illness. Services were offl- ciated by Rev. Hugh Power with a eulogy given by Rev. Dale Brown, a long-time friend.


He was born October 16, 1897 in Corning, Iowa, and moved to the Kern River Valley November, 1961.


He Is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hazel; his daughter, Angella of Wichita, Kansas; Jackle Grothe of Lake Isabella; his son John Roland of Camarillo; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Born March 22, 1950, she lived in Lake Isabella six years. She was a graduate of Redondo Union High School and El Camino College. Locally, she was active with girl scouts and was a substitute teacher for Johnsondale, Kernville, and Wood- row Wallace elementary schools as well as teaching catechism classes at St. Jude's church, Wofford Helghts.

Memorial services will be held at Weldon Methodist Church for Will Nicoll who died in Redding October 6. Interment will be conducted at Cottage Grove Cemetery, Weldon. Dates for services have not been aet.


Nicoll was born on a ranch in Weldon April 1, 1885, the son of John and Elizabeth Carden Nicoll. He was a valey rancher until 1936.


He is survived by his wife, Clara Nicoll, Redding; three sons, Earl Nicoll, Coarsegold; John Nicoll, Wel- don; Ed M. Nicoll, Redding; a daughter, Alice Culbertson, Willows; eight grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren.

Services will be held this week in Roseburg, Oregon, for Charline Isbell, 50, who died October 28 at Kern Valley Hospital.


Born December 7, 1925, in Arkan- sas, she was a former line worker for CVC Canneries in Oregon.


She is survived by her sister Edna N. Miller of Wofford Heights, and her daughter, Bobble Sue Higgenbotham of Roseburg.

Lawrence Westlake


Services were held at Valley Mor- tuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, Wednes- day, November 3, for Lawrence Frank Westlake, who died October 31 at Kern Valley Hospital. Kern River Valley Elks Lodge No. 2358 officiated and interment followed at Kern Valley Cemetery.


Born June 24, 1898, in Brookfield, Missouri, he worked aa a construction supervisor for Los Angeles County for 38 years. He Lived 56 years in the state, 8 in the valley.


He is survived by his wife, Hazel Westlake of Wofford Heights, and his sister, Lucille Allison of Carlsbad.

Edward Sinks


Services were held in the First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella, Wed- nesday at 11 a.m. for Edward E. Sinks, 63, who died October 23. Rev. Hugh Power officiated.


Mr. Sinks was born in Texas and had resided in Kern County 27 years. Survivors include the widow, Frances of Lake Isabella and one brother, Alfred Halel of Los Angeles. Pallbearers were Ed and Bill Moss, Dutch Tyner, Bill Stancell, Jim Ash and Charley Maggs. Honorary pall- bearers were Don Thone, Ralph Kan- aguaga, Elmer Bond, Ross Shaw, Bill Sterns and Louis Johnson.


Entombment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Blanch Craig


Services were held in Colorado for Blanche Craig, 80, former resident of Lake Isabella, who died in Denver October 2. Mr. and Mra. Craig were valley residents more than 12 years. Her husband died 4 years ago.


Ethel Moore


Services will be held this morning at 10 a.m., November 4, at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Ethel Margaret Moore, 62, who died at Kern Medical Center In Bakersfield, November 1.


Born in Louisiana March 12, 1914, she spent 30 years in the state, 15 of those residing in Lake Isabella.


She is survived by her husband, Lee Moore, Lake Isabella; her brother, Eugene Shaffett of Pipkin, Louisiana; and her sister, Marle Olson of Carson. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Buzz Barnes


Services were held yesterday, No- vember 10, at United Methodist Church in Kernville for Harold L. Barnes, Jr., 28, known to his friends as "Buzz." Rev. Myron B. Goodyear officiated church service and Vet- erans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7665 officiated the interment, which follow- ed at Kern Valley Cemetery.


Born May 29, 1948, he served in the United States Army during the con- flict in Viet Nam.
