Robert C. Mulnix
Private services were held in the Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel in Bakers- field on Saturday, November 30 for Robert C. Mulnix, 85, well known valley artist, who died on November 9 in a Bakersfield convalescent hospital. Interment followed in Hill- crest Memorial Park.
Mulnix was born July 1, 1889 in Colorado. He served in the U.S. Navy pł 17 and in the U.S. Army in World Der- I -Ho- was -- responsible- for creating some of the first Army field communication services.
Mulnix retired from his ILos Angeles business when he was 65 and began a new career in painting when he came to the Kern River Valley in 1954. He was instrumental in organizing the Kern River Valley Art Association and was named to a fellowship in F.I.C.A. in 1970. He lived in Wofford Heights until August of this year.
He is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Gibson of Long Beach. His fitting epitaph was, "Art is not the artist's own, it is an expression of God's great creations."

Services were held Monday, Dec- ember 2, 1974 at 1 p.m. at the Highland Chapel Methodist Church for Irene M. Cain, who passed away November 28 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Rev. Mark Stahnke officiated at the services.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond.
Mrs. Cain was born on July 24, 1903 In Woodville, Ohlo. She resided In the Kern Valley for 7 years, and in Callfornia for 32 years. A retired teacher, Mrs. Caln was a member of the Californla Teachers' Association and the Highland Chapel Methodist Church. Interment was at Kern Valley Cemetery.

Roxie Biswell
Services were held in the Valley Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, Jan- uary 7 at 11 a.m. In memory of Roxie Biswell, 79, who died in Roseville, California on January 3. Rev. Mike Goodyear officiated at the service. Interment followed in the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
Mrs. Biswell was born on May 7, 1897 in Missouri. She had lived in the Kern Valley for 30 years. At the time of her death she resided at 124 Park Way in Wofford Heights. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the South Fork Woman's Club, and the Canasta Club. She had celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary last March 26.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two daughters, Reva Stigle- meir of Inglewood and Myrna Powell of Sacramento; one brother, Willard Morgan of Kernville; one sister, Exle Zumwalt of Missouri.
Florence Waddell
Rosary was recited Thursday, January 2 in the Valley Mortuary Chapel in memory of Mrs. Florence B. Waddell, 76, who passed away on December 30 in Sumner, Washington. Mass was held on Friday, January 3 at 10 a.m. at the St. Jude's Catholic Church in Wofford Heights with Father Mark Renner officiating at the service. Interment followed In the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
Mrs. Waddell was born on March 29, 1898 in Norwich, Vermont. Prior to retirement she lived in Covina for more than 40 years. She was em- ployed in the citrus industry as a bookkeeper and at the time of her retirement she was a bookkeeper for the True Scale Model Company. Mrs. Waddell lived in the Kern River Valley at the Whiskey Flat Trailer Park In Wofford Heights from 1969 to 1973. She moved to Washington In the latter part of 1973 to be near her daughter.
She is survived by one son, Dick Sherman of Wofford Heights; one daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Brandt of Sumner, Washington; five grand- children and seven great grand- children. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.

V. Hildreth Houck
Services were held at the Kernville United Methodist Church on Monday, December 30 at 2 p.m. in memory of V. Hildreth (Jack) Houck of Wofford Heights who died at the Kern Valley Hospital on December 28. Rev. Donald Houghland, son-in-law of the deceased, officiated at the service. Interment followed in the Kern River Valley District Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Houck was born in Fresno on July 16, 1907. At the time of his death he had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for 16 years. He and his wife were the owners of the Taco Kart In Kernville, Jack was a member of the KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827 and the B.P.O.E. No. 2358.
He is survived by the widow, Jeanette; one daughter, Donna Houghland of Garnnerville, Nevada; one sister, Mildred Mayberry of Silverada, California; nine grand- children and one great grandchild. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Graveside rites were performed at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery on Friday, January 3 at 1 p.m. for Henry Reece Heizer, 69, who died on Monday, December 30 as the result of an automobile accident. Rev. Mike Goodyear, pastor of the Kern- ville United Methodist Church offl- ciated.
Helzer was born in Deercreek, Oklahoma on August 22, 1905. He was a retired custodian from the Los Angeles School District and co - owner of the Lucky Spot Grill in Hollywood. He was a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 21/2 years at the time of his death.
He is survived by two sons, Robert and Willlam, both of Newbury Park; two brothers, Cory Heizer of Kansas and Herbert Heizer of Oklahoma; two sisters, Pearl Haskins and Anna LeCout of Oklahoma and five grand- children. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.

Services were held on Wednesday, January 8 at 10 a.m. in the Valley Mortuary Chapel for William Henry Milligan, 84, who passed away on Sunday, January 5 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Rev. Mark Stahnke, pastor of the Weldon Methodist Church and the Highland Chapel, officiated at the services. Interment followed at the old Kernville Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
William was born on July 2, 1890 in Toronto, Ont., Canada. He was a retired bookkeeper employed by the Tay Holbert Co. He had lived in the Kern Valley for 19 years. In 1921, William met and married Nellie Pettypool, a native. daughter. She passed away three years ago and is interred at the Old Kernville Ceme- tery.
He la survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harriet Chamberlin of Stockton; one brother, George Milliagn of Ontarlo, Canada; two sisters. Ruth Carr of Canada, and Isabel Walker of Michi- gan; 9 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren.

Silas Usselman
Memorial services were held on Monday, January 13 at 2 p.m. in the Highland Chapel sanctuary for Silas Lee Usselman, 72, of 6515 Park Avenue, Mt. Mesa. Mr. Usselman passed away on January 9 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Rev. Mark Stahnke, pastor of the Weldon Methodist Church and the Highland Chapel, officiated at the chapel service.
The Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge No. 827 assisted with the services and provided a most impres- sive 44 man honor guard in Mr. Usselman's memory. Interment fol- lowed in the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
Mr. Usselman was born on Febru- ary 23, 1902 in Rockville, Indiana. Ha has lived in California for 44 years, and was the owner of the ABC Battery Company in Lynwood for 41 years prior to his retirement. He was a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 8 years and very active in the community.
Usselman was on the board of directors of the Rainbow Girls, a 50 year member of the Masons, a member of the South Lake Property Owners Association, and a member of the Highland Chapel Methodist Chu- rch.
He is survived by the widow, Josephine; tow sons, Donald McClain of Granada Hills, William R. McClain of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Mary Jean Widero of Thousand Oaks, Doris Ann Ruud of Upland; Norma Lee Caldwell of Lynwood; one bro- ther, Enos Usselman of Corona Del Mar; two sisters, Alice Hill of Kernville and Cora Cahill of Long Beach; 20 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The pallbearers were: Roger Ruud, Ricky Clark, Jimmy Clark. Bob Clark, all grandsons of the deceased, and Roy Widero, Boyd Shields, Tommy Thompson and Jim Bartle- baugh. Arrangements by Valley Mor- tuary.
Jack Darwin
Services will be held at 1 p.m. In the Rainbow Chapel of Rose Hills Mor- tuary, Whittier on Saturday, January 18 for Jack Darwin, 78, who died on January 11 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Interment will follow at the Rose Hills District Cemetery.
Darwin had been a resident of the Kern Valley for one year. He was born on February 28, 1906 in San Francisco and was a retired automobile sales- man from La Puente.

Matilda Szymanski
Rosary was said at 7 p.m. on January 12 in the Valley Mortuary Chapel in memory of Matilda Szy- manski, 78, of Rockhaven Trailer Park in Wofford Heights. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on January 13 in the Kern Valley District Cemetery with Father Timmons, Bakersfield officiating.
Mrs. Szymanski died on January @ at the Kern Valley Hospital. She had been a resident of the Kern Valley for the last 10 years. Mrs. Szymanski was born on March 14, 1896 in Nanicoke, Pennsylvania. She lived in Los Angeles for 30 years prior to moving to the Valley. She was a member of the 55 Plus Club and the Kernville Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by two sons; Stanley of Wofford Heights, Joseph of Kenil- worth, New Jersey; two sisters, Bertha Smith of Benton, Pennsylvan- ia and Helen Beck of Kingston, Pennsylvania; and five grandchild- ren. Arrangements by Valley Mortu- ary.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, January 15 at the Kern Valley District Cemetery for William Mckinley Richardson, 78, who died January 13 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Rev. Arthur I.ewis, pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, officiated at the service
Richardson was born on December 9, 1896 in Austin, Texas and until his retirement he owned and operated a liquor store and market in Southern California He was a resident of the Kern River Valley for 13 years, and an active member of the World War I Veterans, Barracks No 1841.

Oscar J. Gilliland
Memorial rites were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints In Mt. Mesa for Oscar James Gilliland, 61, of Bodfish who died at the Kern Valley Hospital on January 17. Officiating at the service were: President Emll Brown, President Rulon Scott, Bishop Robert Sangster, President Robert Whitlock, President Lynn Taylor. Dedication of the grave at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery was given by Scott Sangs- ter.
Mr. Gilliland was born on March 31, 1911 in Arizona and was a retired engineer employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad for 34 years. He had lived in the valley for the past 4 years where he enjoyed an active associa- tion with the Equestrian Trails Corral No. 71. He was serving as secretary- treasurer of the ETI at the time of his death.

James R. Wermuth
Services were held on Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m. In the Clauson Funeral Home in Ojai for James R. Wermuth, former resident of the Kern River Valley. The Rev. Harry Hobby of Goleta officiated at the chapel service. A military graveside service was held at the Hillcrest Memorlal Cemetery, Bakersfield at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 27. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 7665 presided at the graveside rite.
Mr. Wermuth moved to the Ojai area about 3 years ago. He was a silversmith and bit-maker, famous with horsemen throughout the world. He was an Army veteran and a charter member of the Kern River Valley VFW Post No. 7665.

Services were held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. for Luther E. Godby, 81, who died January 26. Mr. William Turner of the World War I Veterans Barracks No. 1841 of Lake Isabella officlated.
Mr. Godby was born in Texas and had resided in Kern County for the past 47 years. He was a member of the 500 Card Club of Kern River, Kern Valley Gent and Mineral Soclety, Kern River Veterans Club, World War I Barracks No. 1841 of Lake Isabella and the Kern County Mineral Society.

Mr. Temple was born on January 21, 1918 in Kingwood, West Virginia. He had lived in California for 30 years and was employed for 32 years as a foreman in Missile Ordinance for the Department of the Army. He had been a resident of Wofford Heights for the past eight years, a member of the Elks Lodge, the Kern River Valley Golf Association and was the past Champion Golfer of the Kern Valley Golf Club.
He is survived by the widow, Mary: one daughter and one son-in-law, Buck and Patricia K. Orin C. Marksberry
Services were held on Monday, February 10 at 11 a.m. in the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Orin C. Marks- berry, 82, who died at the Kern Valley Hospital on February 7. Rev. Hugh Power officlated at the services and interment followed at Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
Mr. Marksberry was born on April 16, 1892 in Kentucky. He had lived in California for 20 years and was a retired tool and die maker. He came to Weldon 18 months ago.
He is survived by one daughter, Elva Riley of Weldon; three sons, Ernest of Whittier, Clarence of Arcadia, Elmer of Baldwin Park; one sister, Bessle long of Cincinnatt, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Mr. Hatl was born in Springfield, Ohio on May 16, 1897. He had lived In California for 37 years and in the Kern River Valley for the last 9 years. He was a retired cabinet inaker and had been self employed as a cabinet maker during his residence in Mt. Mesa. He was a member of the 55 Plus Club and the Southlake Property Owners' Association.

Hutchison was born on April 29, 1896 in Quenemo, Kansas. He had lived in California for 68 years and was a retired rubber worker employed by the Goodyear Rubber Co. for 31 years. He had resided in Kernville for the past 14 years. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. No. 2358, World War I Veterans, Barracks No. 1841, and the Masonic Lodge, No. 660 of Baldwin Park.
He is survived by the widow, Anna; one daughter, Mary Louise Martin of Kent, Washington; five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Schrack was born on March 26, 1912 in Missouri. She had lived in California for 28 years and was a resident of Bodfish for the past 312 years.

Bertha Bliss
Services were held on Monday, February 24 at 3 p.m. in Camarillo for Mrs. Bertha Lee Bliss, 63, who died on February 19 in an Oxnard hospital after an extended illness. Interment was at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Mrs. Bliss was born on June 26, 1912 and was a long time resident of the Bloomfield Ranch in Onyx where her husband was foreman for the Adohr Milk Farms for 15 years. She will be remembered In the South Fork School for her continuing work on behalf of the Parent Teachers Association.
Mrs. Bliss is survived by the widower, Farris Bliss of Camarillo; two daughters, Millie Raymond and Mary Shultz, both of Bakersfield; one son, Farris Jr. of Boston; and seven grandchildren.

James Shipley of Lake Isabella, 39, died on February 20 in the Kern Valley Hospital. Services will be conducted in Midwest City, Okla- homa.
Eugene Wheat
Services were held on Friday, February 21 at 2 p.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Eugene V. Wheat, 65, who died at home in Kernville on February 19. Officlating at the services, both at the chapel and graveside, were members of the Pearl Harbor Survivors and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Interment was In the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
Wheat had lived on Panorama Drive in Kernville for the last 35 years. He was a retired cook from Camp Owen and was currently employed at Josef's Steak House. He was born in Oklahoma on January 30, 1910.
He is survived by the widow, Lorrayne (Larrie Graug); one son, Frank Graus; one daughter, Sharon Sperling of Los Angeles; two brothers, Roy of Arizona, and Will; one sister, Magness Hull; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Clements was born on March 22, 1893 In Ontario, Canada. At the time of his death he had been a resident of Bodfish for 15 years.

Private services were held for Thomas Aloysius Glass Sr., 61, who died March 5. Mr. Glass was born in New York and had resided in Kecn County 10 years.

Marvin Cross
Graveside services for Marvin Alden Cross, 72, member of a pioneer family and a retired agricultural teacher at Kern County Union High School and Bakersfield College, was held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Union Cemetery
Mr. Cross, whose parents, John and Cleo Cross, were pioneers in the Glennville-Kernville areas, died Mon- day in Bakersfield. His home was 519 Monterey Street.
A native of Kern County, Mr. Cross attended Bakersfield grammar schools, Kern County Union High School (now Bakersfield High) and Fresno State.
His major interest was agriculture and he was engaged in farming for most of his adult life, except for service in the Navy during World War II.
After the war, he became an agricultural teacher at Kern County Union High School and Bakersfield College.
Mr. Cross's maternal grandfather, John Tilley, settled in the Kern River Valley in 1862 and his father, John Cross, moved to Kernville in 1866.
Survivors include three sons, Dave of Bakersfield, Dan of Florida and Louis of Michigan; three daughters, Ann Ryman and Iva Fendrick, both of Bakersfield, and Dorothy Valentine of Washington; two brothers, Raymond and John, both of Bakersfield; sister, Helen Rankin of Walker's Basin; 16 grandchildren and one great-grand- child.
Pallbearers were Bill Rankin, Don Brown, William Cross, Randy Fend- rick, Dennis Ryman and Paul Turner. Howard K. Dickson was honorary pallbearer.
Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara was in charge of arrangements.

OBITUARY
Cecile Wyly
Services were held In Hillcrest Mortuary Tuesday at 3 p.m. for Cecile M. Wyly, 77, who died March 22. The Rev. Glenn Puder of First Presby- terian Church officiated. Mrs. Wyly was born in Carterville, Mont., and had resided in Kern County 14 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Whittier. Mrs. Wyly is survived by the widower, Jesse; son, Jean of Lake Isabella; daughter, Helen Macy of San Bernardino; 2 sisters, Pansy Barrows of Yucca Valley and Russell Moss of El Monte; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great - grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jay Macy, Jim, Allen, Chris, Steve and John Wyly. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
