Quayle & Co., the editorial department remaining the same. At the expiration of six months, Mr. Quayle disposed of his interest to J. E. Law- rence, who disposed of his interest to Gould, Fitch & Wil- liamson ; after which, it passed into the possession of a joint

These works were established on the corner of Folsom and Beale streets, Jan., 1850, by George K. Gluyas, in connec- tion with the international navigation company, known as the Aspinwall company. The buildings were not fully com- pleted until September of the same year, when the works were io full operation, and did a very large business. Prior to September, the work that was transacted by this estab- lishment, was. to a great extent, performed in the open air. Up to 1854, the works kept in daily employ abont sixty hands. Since this date, however, the business transacted has not been by any means so great.
