Mr. Jackson passed away July 5 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield. He is survived by his wife, Norma of Kernville; daughters Joyce Morrow of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; Judy Maby of Springfield, Missouri; Christine Marie Christian of Lake Isabella; sons William Jackson of Torrance, Stephen Jackson of Wofford Heights, Duke Jackson of Bodfish; sisters Clara Nichols of Junction, Texas; Vera Dennis of Lubbock, Texas, Wilma Ditchfield of Ojal, Bobble Hembree of Las Vegas; dine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

J.W. "BUD" TAYLOR


A funeral service was conducted July 6 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for John William "Bud" Taylor of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Dr. Jerry Corbaley, Pastor of the Mt. View Southern Baptist Church. Mr. Taylor passed away July 1 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by hie wife of 53 years Geneva of Lake Isabella; son John Taylor of Tucson, Arizona, sister Wilma Davis of Oklahoma and two grandchildren. Until his health failed, Bud Taylor had been a deacon of the Mt. View Southern Baptist Church. He was a great lover of the outdoors, particularly fishing on Isabella lake. Mr. taylor was a retired oilman who had worked oilfields both in the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. He was also retired from the Sacramento City College District. Born Oct. 26, 1911 in Abbott, Texas, John William "Bud" Taylor was 76. Interment at Kern Valley Cemetery where graveside dedication was delivered by Rev. H.B. Long. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Elias Hjelmeland


A funeral service was conducted July 5 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for


Elias Hjelmeland of Riverkern. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, Pastor. Mr. Hjelmeland passed away June 26 at home after illness. He Is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn deceased in 1981.


He is survived by his daughter in law Sue Ellen Thobe of Toluca Lake; granddaughter Trisha Thobe of Costa Mesa; grandson Timothy Thobe of North Hollywood, grandson James C. Schatzi Thobe of Maul, Hawall: stepson James Thobe of Laguna Beach and sister Jennie Naustdal of Norway.


Elias Hjelmeland was a WWI veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and a member of carpenters and Joiners union of Los Angeles.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church Wofford Heights for Frances Jule Rickles of Bodfish. Celebrant of the mass was Rev. Monsignor A.G. Herdegen, Pastor of St. Jude Parish.


Mrs. Rickles passed away June 20 at Kern Medical Center Hospital, Bakersfield.


She is survived by her sons Robert Clark of Santa Ana, William Clark of Oregon, Lorge Clark of Santa Ana; daughters Kathleen Clark of Oregon, Denise Pierce of Bodfish, Laurie Price of Oregon, Lisa Buckner of Bakersfield; brother John Lorge of Washington; sister Louella Kash of Santa Monica; 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild. Jule is also survived by her father in law and mother in law, George and Nina Rickles of Wofford Heights. Jule was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Eagles Auxiliary and a ten year resident of the Kern Valley, Born Sept. 22, 1927 Frances Jule Rickles was 60 years old. A graveside funeral service was conducted Tuesday, June 28 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Marie L. Guthrie of Mt. Mesa. Officiating was Rev. John Carpenter, Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, Lake Isabella. Mrs. Guthrie passed away June 25 at the Beverly Manor Health Care Center, Ridgecrest. She is survived by her daughter Dorothy Dailey of Austin, Texas and grandchildren. Born May 6, 1900 in Baltimore Maryland, Marie Louise Guthrie was 88. Interment at Kern River Valley Cemetery. A funeral service was conducted Friday, June 24 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Calven H. Ford of Lake Isabella. Officiating were officers of KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827 and Rev. John Carpenter, Pastor of the Nazarene Church of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Ford passed away June 21 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife of 60 years Eva of Lake Isabella; daughter Billie Fog of Washington and two grandchildren. Mr. Ford was a Master Mason and resident of the Kern Valley for the past 11 years.

CHARLES RAYMOND LAMPSON


Services were held Thursday, June 23 at the First Baptist Church of Ridgecrest for Charles Raymond Lampson of Ridgecrest. Officiating was Rev. John Duckworth. Mr. Lampson passed away June 20


at Ridgecrest Community Hospital. Mr. Lampson is survived by his wife, Mildred of Ridgecrest; son Ronald Lampson of Bakersfield; daughter Sharon Robesky of Ridgecrest; brother Forrest Lampson of Whittier and nine grandchildren.


Mr. Lampson was a resident of the Lake Isabella area for 15 years. He was a building contractor. Born March 16, 1914 in Vinita, Oklahoma, Charles Raymond Lampson was 74. Arrangements by Holland & Lyons Mortuary, Ridgecrest.


HAROLD L. FETTEROLF


A memorial service was conducted Wednesday, June 29 at the United Methodist Church in Weldon for Harold Fetterolf of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Charles Smith, pastor.


Mr. Fetterolf passed away June 24 at home. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lois of Weldon; brother Gerald Fetterold of Kansas; son Leroy Fetterolf of New Jersey. daughter Phyllis Nybakken of San Diego and five grandchildren. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chester. He was a member of the Experiemental crew who built the first twin-tale aircraft, the P-38 at Lockheed aircraft and was one of a crew of five who built the first flying tandem-rotor helicopter. He was retired from Sears.


Born Oct. 7, 1912 in Whichita, Kansas, Harold Leroy Fetterolf was 75.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, June 27 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Charlotte E. Scott of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. Dawid Snow, pastor of First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.


Mrs. Scott passed away June 24.at the Kern Valley Hospital.


She is survived by her son Harold Scot of Long Beach; daughters Lorraine Anhorn of Sunnyvale, Ada Shannon of San Jose; sisters Ada Read of Lake Isabella, Ora Vernon of Lake Isabella; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Mrs. Scott was a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 20 years. Born Oct. 16, 1907 in New York City, Charlotte Evelyn Scott was 80.

Everett "Bud" Clark


Everett E. Clark of Lake Isabella passed away June 12 at the Bakersfield Convalescent Hospital. He is survived by his sister Thelma "Billlie" Monds of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Clark was a resident of the Kern Valley for the past four years, having resided formerly in Anaheim. Born Aug. 21, 1908 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, Everette Edward "Bud" Clark was 79.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, June 21 at the Committal


Chapel of the Kern River Valley


Cemetery, Wofford Heights for Lelia Harriet Michael Hedges of Lake Isabella. Officiating were officers of the Kern River Valley Rebekah's Lodge No. 36.


Mrs. Hedges passed away June 15 at the Oddfellows Home in Saratoga, California.


Lelia is survived by her friend,


Margaret Robertson of Lake Isabella and many friends in the Rebekahs. She is retired from the McDonnel Douglas Corp. and also served with the Salvation Army as a social worker.


Born March 11, 1899 in St. Joseph, Buchannan County, Missouri, Lilia M. Hedges was 89.

DONALD S. VILLARS


Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at Kernville Methodist Church for Donald Statler Villars of Riverkern, who passed away July 14 at Beverly Manor in Ridgecrest. Tom Mckinney will officiate the service.


Mr. Villars had been a resident of Riverkern since 1950. He is survived by his wife of 61 years. Clarine of Riverkern; a daughter, Beth Ishaq of Eugene, Oregon and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Villars was a mathematician, chemist, computer scientist and physicist, teaching in numerous universities. He worked for General Electric Research Industry, Standard Oil, and U.S. Rubber. In 1948 he moved to China Lake, and was employed at the Naval Weapons Center until 1970, when he retired as a senior scientist.


Born Dec. 21, 1900 near Blanchester, Ohio, Donald Statler Villars was 87.

He is survived by his son Joseph Hayes, Jr., daughter Annabelle Hayes, both of Lake Isabella; three grandchildren, Christina, Lindsay and Krystal.


Mr. Hayes was a member of the C.B. club and known to his friends by his handle, "Jose." He was a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 18 years.

Ray M. Fox of Lake Isabella passed away July 30 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife Arleta of Lake Isabella. Ray Fox was a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Navy who served aboard the U.S.S. El Dorado (AGC-11).


He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, KRV Chapter 54 where he held the post of Officer of the Day for nearly ten years.


Born June 22, 1909 In Ft. Bidwell, California, Ray Marvin Fox was 59.

A funeral service was conducted July 29 at the Committal Chapel of Kern Valley Cemetery for J. Sterling Pierce of Bodfish. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, Pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Mr. Pierce passed away July 26 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jacqueline of Bodfish; son Larry Pierce of Lake Isabella and son Terry Pierce also of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Plerce was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in both the Atlantic and Pacific abroad the U.S.S. Eagle as a radioman. He was awarded seven battle stars.

A memorial service was conducted Tuesday, Aug. 2 at KRV Masonic Temple James Road Kernville for John Johnson of Weldon, Officating were officers of KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827 F & AM. Mr. Johnson passed away July 29 in Weldon.


He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Julia of Weldon; son James of Canyon Country, Stephen of Burbank, Scott of Ventura, Cory of Glendale; brother Stanley Johnson of California.


John Johnson was retired from the Burbank City Police Dept. He was a member of the Masons, Elks and was a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 14 years. Interment of cremated remains at Kern Valley Cemetery.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday Aug. 16 at Valley Mortuary Chapel, for Edward A. Zuber of Walker Basin. Officiating was Dr. Jerry Corbaley, Pastor of the Mt. View So. Baptist Chruch, Lake Isabella.


Mr. Zuber passed away at home following illness on Aug. 13.


He is survived by his wife, Joan of Walker; sou Tom of Harbor City, daughters Cindy Cheny of Lomita, Traci Wilson of Kernville and three grandchildren.


Mr. Zuber was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Born Nov. 26, 1922 in Pennsylvania, Edward Arthur Zuber was 65.

Russell Ulvig of Kernville passed away Aug. 6 at the Kern Valley Hospital.

William Van Pelt


Graveside services were held Saturday, Aug. 8 at Kern Valley Cemetery for William R. Van Pelt, who passed away Aug. 1 in Orange, California.


Born Nov. 12, 1907 in Orange City, Iowa, Mr. Van Pelt moved to Glendale in 1924. He went into partnership with Howard Stevens in a Monrovia dealership. He purchased the Glendale Motor Car Company in 1940. He was former Captain of the Glendale Mounted Police. Mr. Van Pelt was a member of the Elks Lodge, of Glendale, one of the founders of the Glendale Verdugo Club, former president of the Glendale Humane Society, the Glendale. Masons and Glendale. Shrine Club.


He loved horses and owned a horse ranch in Chatsworth until 1953.


Mr. Van Pelt moved to Kernville in 1973.


He is survived by his son Joseph Van Pelt of Glendale, daughters Joan Burhenn of La Canada, Karen Miller of Orange; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; sister Evelyn Van Der Wilt of Mesa, Arizona.


Oakley E. Kent


Oakley E. Kent of Kernville passed away Aug. 8 at home following illness. He Is survived by wife Ann of Kernville; son Bernard Kent of Florida; brother Charles Kent of Red Bluff.


During WW II, Oakley Kent served as a civilian Ferry Pilot of Military Aircraft in the "Ferry Command". Later he instructed British R.A.F. cadets In flying. In addition to his lifelong love of aviation, Mr. Kent was a Mason for 57 years, a member of the Oddfellows and the Kernville United Methodist Church. Memorial services are pending.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 20 at noon for


Marlu Ann Phillips of Lake Isabella. Officiating was pastor Duane Splawn of the Kern River Valley Christian Church, with interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery.


Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband Rick of Lake Isabella, daughters Annette, Michelle, sons Rickey and Jimmy all of Lake Isabella, her mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Caster.


Mrs. Phillips was born June 8 1950 in Springfield, Illinois and died Aug. 17 in Los Angeles. She was 38. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


RUTH ELIZABETH BAKER


Ruth Elizabeth Baker of Lake Isabella passed away Aug. 12. Mrs. Baker was born July 17, 1900 in Buffalo, New York. She is survived by her husband, Edwin Henry Baker, who is now in a rest home in Arvin, son Bud Shelly of Aqua Dulce and a stepdaughter, Janice Genetry of Alpine.


Graveside service was held Aug. 17 at Glen Haven Cemetery in San Fernando. Both were active members of the Lake Isabella-Bodfish property owners association.

A graveside service was held Friday, Aug. 19 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery at 10 a.m. for Henry Clay Kivett. Officiating was Pastor James Lee of the Valley Community Church.


Mr. Kivett was preceded in death by his wife Lois in 1984. He is survived by his son Jack Kivett of Burbank; daughter Gayle Rasmussen of Woodland Hills, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Mr Kivett was also a Mason.


Mr. Kivett was born April 9, 1905 in Indiana and died Aug. 16 in Canoga Park. He was 83 years old, and had been a resident of Wofford Heights.


Herman Michial Montgomery


A graveside service was held Monday, August 22 at 11 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Herman Michial Montgomery of Weldon. Officiating was Pastor James Lee of the Valley Comnminity church.


Mr. Montgomery was born Aug. 28, 1923 in Missouri and died Aug. 14 in Mt. Mesa. He was 64.

Robert James Spencer


A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Bishop for Robert James Spencer of Bishop. Officiating was Rev. Dan Willson.


Mr. Spencer was born Jan. 24, 1909 in Ohio and died Aug. 14 in a Bakersfield hospital. He was 79.


Hle is survived by his brother Paul Spencer of Kernville, sister Elizabeth Savers of Bishop and five nieces and nephews.

DONALD EDWARD TENNEY


A graveside service was held Saturday Aug. 27 for Donald Edward Tenney, 60 of Weldon, at Kern River Valley Cemetery. Officiating was Pastor Duane Splawn of the Kern River Valley Christian Church, Weldon. Mr. Tenney was born Jan. 23,


1928 in Chicago, Illinois and died Aug. 19, 1988 in Mt. Mesa. He is survived by wife Rita of 16 years of Weldon, sons Tenney of Washington, John Hiebert of Washington, Vernan Hiebert of Alabama, Tracey Hiebert of Florida; daughters Dorothy Watkins of Washington, Deila Hiebert of Bakersfield and mother Helen Warnock of Hemet. A funeral service was held Thursday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Lana Louise Yarbrough, 43 of Bakersfield. Officiating will be Chaplain

California; sisters Joni Lanza of Lake Isabella, Sharon Caughlin of Mt. Mesa; mother Betty Andrew of Lake Isabella; grandparents John and Nimi Roller of Mt. Mesa; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Yarbrough was born Nov. 27, 1944 in Bakersfield. Interment will be at Kern Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.

Henry Clay Peterson


A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Henry Clay Peterson of Mt. Mesa. Officiating were the officers of the Ridgecrest Elks Lodge No. 1913 and Father David Grahm of St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Kenville.


Mr. Peterson was born Dec. 1. 1905 In Colorado and died at his residence in Mt. Mesa after a long illness Aug. 27. He was 82 years old.


He is survived by his daughter Janet Wolsey Cline of Washington, daughter Dian Downs of Colorado; sisters Elanor Pearl Baxter of Oregon, Dorothy Betterton of Lake Isabella; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and.a dear friend Ava Colescott of Lake Isabella.


He 8 member of Ridgecrest Elks Lodge, Sidewalk C.Ber's Sideband club, Mountain Airs C.B. club and his handle was Ham Sandwich. He received.a Presidential appointment to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD in 1926. He was a 15 year resident of the Kern Valley.
