Private services will be held for Roy Wilson Cloud of Weldon.


Mr. Cloud was born April 4, 1913 in California and died Aug. 30, in Mt. Mesa. He was 75 years old.


He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosemarie of Weldon; son Allan Cloud of Santa Barbara; daugliter Linda Swanson of Bakersfield; sister Viola Webb of Idaho; 4 grandsons.


He was a long time supporter of the Goleta Valley Little League, a member of the Moose and an 11 year resident of the Kern Valley.

BENNIE "B.C." CLARENCE JARRELL


Private services were held for Bennie Clarence Jarrell of Lake Isabella. Mr. Jarrell was born Oct. 8, 1902 in Mississippi and died Aug. 29 in Bakersfield. He was 85.


He is survived by his son Jerry Jarrell of Sunland, son Bennie Jarrell Jr. of Bakersfield; son Mike Jarrell of Mississippi; daughter Loretta Spencer of Bakersfield; 16 grandchildren; great grandchildren; brothers Pat Jarrell of Texas and Freeman Jarrell of Texas and Pierce Jarrell of Pennsylvania. Mr. Jarrell was an 8 year resident of the Kern Valley.

Marguerite Lawler


A funeral service was held at the Mormon Church in Westlake for Marguerite Lawler, hoe passed away on Aug. 19.


Lawler came to the valley in 1964 and shortly thereafter she began practicing real estate. She opened her own office for a while and then joined partners with Ida larris. After Lawler and Harris, she joined Mike Franklin with an ERA franchise. Most recently, she hung her license with Century 21.


Lawler was very active in the sales of many of the subdivision lots of the valley and had many customers who remember her gentle, profesional way of selling real estate.


She is survived by a daughter, Jeannine Cason and a son, Bill Lawler, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.


The Kern River Lake Isabella Board of Realtors will miss Lawler. She was a founding member of the board in 1973 and contributed toward the growth and success of the local group.

JAMES WILLIAM MACBRIDE


James William MacBride, 89 of Squirrel Valley died at his


residence on Aug. 24 after a long illness.


Mr. MacBride was born Aug.


15, 1899 in Ohio. He was employed by the City of San Francisco as a photographer until his retirement.


He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary in April of this year. He is survived by his brother Ed MacBride of Canada, and his sister Isabell of CA. his neice Marion Nicoll of Weldon. Mr. MacBride was cremated and he and his wife's ashes will be scattered at sea.

Lester Woodrow Tietgen


A funeral


service was conducted Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Lester Woodrow Tietgen of Wofford Heights, Officiating were the officers of Kern Valley Valley Elks Lodge No. 2358 with interinent following at the Kern Valley cemetery.


Mr. Tietgen is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cleo of Wofford Heights; stepsons Don and Gary Guttery; sister Mary Plahn of Nebraska; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Tietgen owned and operated Tietgen T.V. In Wofford Heights for many years and was a 23 year resident of the Kern Valley and a 30 year member of the Elks, a member of the El Segundo Rod and Gun Club, Dam Dancers, and Kern Valley Golf club.


Mr. Tietgen was born in Carroll, Nebraska on Oct. 23, 1918 and died at the V.A. Hospital in Fresno on Sept. 1. He was 74.

MARJORIE CORRELL


Marjorie Fern Correll died Aug. 2 in Bakersfield. She is preceded in death by her husband, William, who died in June, 1987. She is survived by her children, William Howard, daughter in law Alicia, daughter LuCinda Lea, son-in-law Jay and grandchildren Michael, Dawn Wendy and Melinda. Marjorie was an artist and had sold many paintings in the 29-Palms area. She moved to the Kern Valley 13 years ago. Born in Osceola, Iowa on Dec. 7, 1917, Marjorie Fern Correll was 70. Cremation arrangements by Mish Funeral Home, Oildale. Interment of cremated remains at Kern Valley Cemetery.


GAYLE WALKER


A memorial service has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 3 in Riverside Park in Kernville for longtime Kern Valley resident Gayle Walker, who died Sept 6 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield after a short illness. She was 79. On June 27, 1927, Ardis and Gayle were married in the garden of the Andrew Brown home.


She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ardis Walker and her stepmother.


Memorial contributions may be made in Gayle Walker's name to the Kern Valley Wildlife Association's Legal Defense Fund; Kern Valley Historical Society's Museum Fund or the Friends of the Library.

A funeral service will be conducted graveside at the Kern River Valley cemetery, Wofford Heights for Margaret I. Law of Bodfish. Officiating will be father David Graham, Pastor of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Kernville. Mrs. Law passed away Sept. 17 at home after illness.


She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Norman of Bodfish; sons Norman R. Law, Jeffrey M. Law; daughters Patricia Cassaro, Mellis Vieira and eight grandchildren.


Born Sept. 30, 1932 in Fremont, Dodge County, Nebraska, Margaret Isabel Law was 55.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Martha B. Lankford of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, Pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, of Lake Isabella. Mrs. Lankford passed away Sept. 10 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.


She is survived by her husband Willis 'Lanky' Lankford of Lake Isabella; daughters Linda Intelkofer of Oregon, Micahle Davis of Chatsworth, Sally Merservy of Utah, Danielle Smith of Ramona, Sharon Sinith of Oregon and Carla Larsen of Washington; sister Glaye Seahaffer of


Illinois; 21 grandchildren.


Martha was a member of the Women of the Moose, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. She had been a resident of the valley for the past ten years.


Born June 17, 1917 in Winnetka, Cook County, illinois, Martha Brigetta Lankford was 71.

Sam Marshall


Donald George "Sam" Marshall passed away quietly at home in Wofford Heights on Sept. 13.


He is survived by his mother, Vera Marshall of Sonoma; one brother and sister. He is also survived by his good friend Pat Rue and her family of Wofford Heights.


Sam Marshall was a WW II veteran and had lived in the Kern Valley for the past 25 years.


Born June 9, 1926 in Burbank, Donald George Marshall was 62. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary. Interment of cremated remains at the U.S. National Cemetery, Riverside.

A memorial service was conducted Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Arthur M. Schehl of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Floyd Castillo, Pastor of the United Fellowship Church of Tehachapi. Mr. Schehl passed away Sept. 11 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield. He is survived by hie wife of 44 years. Phyllis of Weldon, daughters Dorothy Griggs of Santa Fe Springs, Arda Mortvedt of Rialto, Patricia Wrightman of Salinas; six grandchildren one great-grandchild and three nephews of Riverside. Mr. Schehl was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Moose and a 16 year resident of the Kerv Valley. La Verne Adames


A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel In Lake Isabella for La Verne Adames of Lake Isabella. Officialing was Rev. John Carpenter, Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene of Lake Isabella. Mrs. Adames passed away Sept. 2 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


She is survived by her husband Louis of Lake Isabella, children and grandchildren.


Born Jan. 27, 1919 In Oklahoma, Effie La Verne Adames was 69. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


ELLEN CONNER SHARPE


A private service was held for Ellen Conner Sharpe, of Oregon, who died Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Oregon. Mrs. Sharpe was 69. She is survived by her husband William of Waldport, Oregon, daughter Nancy Sharpe of Weed and one son, Lt. Commander Kenneth Sharpe of Washington, D. C. and three grandchildren. Ellen and her husband William owned the Pala Ranches Motel in Kernville for 15 years. They retired and moved to Oregon in 1978.


Beulah L. Wells


Beulah Lucille Wells passed away on Aug. 8, at Flagship Healthcare Center, Newport Beach. She was 88 years old. Since 1980, Mrs. Wells has been known by her C.B. handle, Nugget.


She was born in Rogers, Texas on Dec. 13, 1899. In 1923, she came to the Kern Valley, left one year later and returned in 1979. Since 1981, she made her home with her daughter Lilli Ansaldo of Kernville.


She Is survived by her daughters Lilli, Edna Cameron of Costa Mesa and Margaret Henline of Houston, Texas; son J.D. Gilbert, of Ventura, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great- great grandson.


Cryptside services were held Aug. 13 at Harbor Forest Lawn in Costa Mesa.

JOHN L. STEELE


John L. Steele of Wofford Heights passed away Sept. 7 at the Verdugo Hills Hosptial in Glendale.


He is survived by his wife of 26 years Ruth of Wofford Heights, son John Gary Steele of Kansas, Larry Steel of Kansas, brothers George and Joe both of Kansas; sister Larene Steele of Kansas; three grandchildren.


John Steele was a member of the Elks, Moose and VFW KRV Post 7665. He was a 19 year resident of the Kern River Valley.


A memorial service for John Steele was conducted at the Elks Lodge in Wofford Heights on Sept. 14. A WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, John Steele qualified as expert, the highest level of marksmanship on the Thompson sub-machine gun and the Browning light machine gun. He applied these shills in defense of this nation at Normandy,


Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes Forest and central Europe as a Sargeant with the 635th Tank Destroyer Battation. Born April 7, 1913 in Arma, Kansas, John L. Steele was 75 years of age. Walter Henry Lieffring


A funeral service was held Fri- day, Sept. 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Walter Henry Lieffring of Lake Isabella.


Officiating were the officers of the KRV Masonic Lodge no. 827 F&M and Pastor David Snow of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Lieffring Is survived by his sisters Mabel Smith of Anaheim, Ethel Naberhaus of Florida, Hazel Wynne of Nevada and Florence Behning of Utah.


Walter H. Lieffring was & Mason and a member of the Odd- fellows and a 17-year resident of the Kern Valley.


He was born June 10, 1913 in Kansas and died Sept. 19 in Ridgecrest. Walter was 75 years old. Interment will be Monday, Sept. 26 at Forest Lawn, Glendale.

A graveside service was held Sept. 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for David Crockett Barton Jr. of Lake Isabella.


Officiating was Dr. Jerry Cor- baley, pastor of the Mt. View Southern Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.


Barton Is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ruth of Lake Isabella, daughter Patsi Eccles of Canada, granddaughter Shaw Korick of Canada, sister Myrtle Robinson of Roscoe, Texas.


Mr. Barton was born Dec. 2, 1912 in Haskell, Texas and died at his residence in Lake Isabella Sept. 19, 1988. He was 75 years old.

Margaret Nell Collins


Margaret N. Collins, beloved wife of W. Howard Collins passed away Sept. 23 at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital following a long illness.


Margaret was born Nov. 27, 1927 in Waco, Texas and was 60 years old. She was a 23 year resident of Lake Isabella and a 17 year employee of Community First Bank, serving In capacities from loan officer, assistant manager, and manager. Ill health forced her to retire three years ago.


She is survived by her husband, Howard of 24 years of Lake Isabella; son Howard Collins of Ridgecrest, son Gregory Furtsch of Apple Valley; daughter Linda Collins of Wofford Heights, daughter Cynthia Thill of Lake Isabella; mother Mildred Windsor of Torrange and five grandchildren.

Max Richard Dorris


A graveside service was held Friday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. at the U.S. National Cemetery in Riverside for Max Richard Dorris of Weldon. Officiating was Joel Astor of Valley Mortuary.


Max was born June 11, 1926 in Texas and died Sept. 28 in Bakersfield. He was 62.


Mr. Dorris served in WWII and the Korean War and employed as a machinist for 25 years and last employed by AEROJET General. He is survived by his wife Rosella of Weldon.

Lois Maxine Scofield


A Traveside service was held Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Forest Lawn, Covina for Lois Maxine Scofield of Paramont. Officiating was Mel Hetrick of Valley Mortuary.


Mrs. Scofield was born July 3, 1917 in Kansas and died Sept. 30 in San Dimas at the age of 71.


She is survived by her daughter and son in law Dorothy and Dick Allison of Bodfish; sons Robert Scofield of Paramount, Carl Scofield of Lakewood, daughter Deanne Rearick of Monrovia; sister Thelma Chapman of Glendora; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Phillip Fallis


Phillip Fallis, 75, Lake Isabella died on Sept. 23 in a Ventura hospital after a long illness.


Mr. Fallis was born Sept. 21, 1913 in Witten, South Dakota. He moved to Lake Isabella from China Lake in 1989.


He was a retired shop foreman with the United States Navy Civil Service for 32 years. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and a member of the Elks Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose and the Eagles Lodge.


He is survived by his wife Edith of Lake Isabella; daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Ellis Jump of Ventura; grandsons Lucas Emmanuel Turse and Chad Nicholas Turse of Ventura; sister Irene Belfany of Mission, South Dakota and Elizabeth LeClair of Fontana.


Burlal was held at the Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.


Erwin William Lederhause


A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Kern Valley Moose Lodge in Lake Isabella for Erwin William Lederhause of Lake Isabella. Officiating were the officers of Moose Lodge 498.


Mr. Lederhause was born Aug. 10, 1916 in Wisconsin and died Oct. 6 in Mt. Mesa, be was 72.


He is survived by his wife of 48 years Freida of Lake Isabella; daughter and son in law William and Barbara Nelson of Simi Valley; brother Harvey Lederhause of Wisconsin, 2 grandchilden.


Mr. Lederhause was a 10 resident of the Kern Valley

Conrad "Connie" William Barnett of Lake Isabella died at his residence on Wednesday, Oct. 5.


Mr. Barnett was born in New York on March 6, 1918 and was 70.


He is survived by his wife Mary Barnett of Lake Isabella; sons Kenneth Barnett of Odessa, Texas, Reggie Barnett of Odessa, Texas; sister Zora Walrath of Lake Isabella and brother James Barnett of Florida.

Dorothea Anderson of Wofford Heights passed away Oct. 9 in the home of her daughter and son-in- Law in Whittier. She was 89 years old.


Dorothea had been a resident of Wofford Heights for the past 20 years. She came to this country in 1922.


She is survived by her daughter of Whitter, one grandson, Gene Anderson and family of Lakewood, sister, Helena Ellis of Wofford Heights.


She is preceded in death by her husband Harry who passed away in 1985.

WALLACE JAMES TURNER, SR.


Funeral services were held in the Mish Funeral Home in Oildale for Wallace James Turner, Sr. who died Oct. 6. Rev Vernon Carr officiated. Graveside services followed at the Kern Valley Cemetery .


Mr. Turner was a native of Columbia, Mo. He moved to Taft in 1921 and in 1974 moved to Tehachapi. After his retirement he moved to Onyx. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Taft and was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by the County of Kern in the Parks and Recreation Dept. and was attached to the Tehachapi Mountain park for over 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Emma Ruth Turner for over 40 years; children Ruth Jeanette Morse and Amy Lucille Godvin of Bakersfield; Nancy Jollene Dietz and Mary Esther Turner both of Onyx and Wallace James Turner, Jr. of San Diego, brothers Austin and Ted Turner, both of Taft; grandchildren Jason, Scotty, Sarah, Eric, Karie and Jennifer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kern County Cancer Society or Hospice.

Dewitt David Newman


A graveside service was held Thursday, June 16 at Kern Valley Cemetery for Dewitt David Newman of Lake Isabella. Officiating was his son Pastor David Newman of Nebraska.


Mr. Newman was born Nov. 27, 1909 in Arkansas and died June 14 in Bakersfield. He was 78.


He is survived by his son David Newman of Nebraska; daughter Diana Granger of CA; sister Doris Powell, and two grandchildren.


Edward Frazer


Edward A. Frazer passed away Oct. 9 in Van Nuys after a brief illness. Mr. Frazer was bono May 8, 1909.


He was a resident of Wofford Heights since 1971 after working 43 years for Caltrans. He was a member of the Kern Valley Golf Course.


He is survived by two daughters Sally Giroud of Van Nuys and Carole Nielsen of Pasadena, five, grandchildren and four great grandchildren and his brother Charles Frazer of Wofford Heights.


At his request, no funeral services were held.

Bernardino for Esther Meier Anderson, 86 of Camarillo who died Oct. 4 at the Pleasant Valley Extended Care unit. Esther Anderson was born in Denmark in 1903 and lived in


Wofford Heights for Many years, before moving to Ventura. She is survived by a daughter Constance Tveit of Ventura; grandsons Carl and Russell Tveit of Ventura and granddaughter Holly Tveit of Canoga Park.


RAYMOND JOSEPH BENCOMA, JR.


Raymond Joseph Bencoma jr. passed away at the age of 24 in August. He was born Nov. 26, 1963 at Schurz, Nevada. Graveside services were held at the Schurz Indian Cemetery.


Survivors include two children Vanessa Ann Bencoma, 4 and Nathan Joseph Bencoma, 2; mother Flora Rambeau; sisters Darla Sepsey, Tammy Rambeau and Jeri Rambeau; brothers, Harold Bencoma of Big Pine, and Bernard Rambeau of Schurz; aunts Shirley Eagle and Pauline Powel and Trudy Bencoma, uncles Frank Quartz and Rick Quartz of Schurz, Monty, Donald, Nick and Gary Bencoma and Virgil Eller. He is also survived by a grandfather, Jake Vipont, 98 of Schurz. He was active in boxing and baseball.

Edna was born in Oklahoma on Sept. 27, 1918 and died Oct. 9, in Mt. Mesa. She was 70 years old.


She is survived by her husband, Ralph of 18 years of Squirrel Valley; son Dana Little of Salinas; brother Charles Farmer of Redlands and mother Hilda Farmer. Edna was a 13 year resident of the Kern Valley.

Phyllis was born May 12 in Culver City and died Oct. 14 in Redondo Beach. She was 61 years old.


She is survived by her husband, John Sr .; five sons Larry Miller of El Cajon, Kirk Miller of Venice, Martin and James Dempsey both of Torrance and John Dempsey II of Redondo Beach; a sister Esther Amin of Culver City; two brothers Elmer Cook of Culver City and Harry Cook of Escondido and seven grandchildren. Phyllis and John are the owners of Sierra Sporting Goods In Kernville.


John Vincent Leary, Jr.


A funeral mass was held Thursday, Oct. 20 at St. Jude's Parish Catholic Church for John Vincent Leary Jr. of Van Nuys. Officiating was Rev. Monsignor A.G. Herdegen of St. Jude Parish.


John was born May 22, 1939 in Waterbury, Connecticut and died as the result of a traffic accident in Los Angeles on Oct. 15. John was 49.


He is survived by his mother Dorothy Handel of Lake Isabella; brother Andrew Leary of Kernville, James Leary of Santa Monica and was a member of the Moose Lodge 498 in Lake Isabella.


Gladys Maurine Cook McCollum


Gladys Maurine Cook McCollum of Kernville passed away on Monday, Oct. 24, 1988, at the age of 74.


A graveside service is schedul- ed for today, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at Kern Valley Cemetery.


She was born on June 11, 1914, in Osceola, Iowa. Her family moved to California, and she graduated from Colton High School in 1931.


She attended San Bernardino Valley College before moving on to obtain her degree in sociology from the University of Southern California in 1935. She then work- ed in the child welfare field, operating a day nursery during World War II.


She was married to Sidney McCollum in Tacoma, Wash., in 1945.


The McCollums moved to Kernville in 1866, where Mr. McCollum was employed by Southern California Edison Co. as a maintenance supervisor.


Their daughter, Sharon, serves as postmaster In Onyx.


In lieu of flowers, the family re- quests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Associa- tion, the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foun- dation of America.


Glen Homer Watson


A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 29 at 12:30 p.m. at Scodie Park in Onyx for Glen Homer Watson of Onyx.


Glen was born Nov. 21, 1920 in California and died at his residence on Oct. 14.


He is survived by his wife Cynthia of Onyx; daughter Cindy Nissen of Onyx; sons Dale Watson of Huntington Beach, Rex Dalby; brothers Charles Watson of Onyx, Percy Watson of Sylmar and Howard Watson; sisters Mary Matson of Oregon, Norma Jones of Fresno, Pat Kubelka of Burbank and three grandchildren.


Allison Glauser


Allison Glauser was born Oct. 29 in Michigan and died at her residence In Wofford Heights on Oct. 18. She was 81.


She is survived by her husband of 39 years Max Glauser of Wofford Heights; son Max Glauser, Jr. of Bakersfield; daughter Janet Ruffin of Riverside; sister Elane Mackie of Los Angeles and four grandsons.


Allison Glauser was a nine- year resident of the Kern Valley.
