A funeral service was conducted Monday, Nov. 30 at the Committal Chapel of the Kern River Valley cemetery for Carrie L. Nelson of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Robbie Robinson, Pastor of the Weldon Baptist Church. Mrs. Nelson passed away Nov. 25 in Long Beach.


She Is survived by her husband, Max of Weldon; son Arthur of Long Beach, daughters Doris Fagin of Long Beach and Yvonne Provost of Weldon, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.


Born Nov. 2, 1908 in Sawtelle, California, Carrie Louise Nelson was 79.

Private cremation services were held for Dorothy Jean Pinaire of South Lake. Mrs. Pinaire was born Nov. 27, 1932 in Pasadena and died at her residence in South Lake on Nov. 22. She was 54 years old.


She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ted Pinaire of South Lake; daughters Debra Davis of Denver, Colorado, Janet Pinaire of Whittier; mother Helen Miller of Long Beach; Mrs. Pinaire was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 3156 and an 8 year resident of the Kern Valley. A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 24 at the Committal chapel of the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Ovie Otto Westfall of Onyx. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Corbaley, Pastor of the Mt. View Southern Baptist Church, Mr. Westfall passed away Nov. 22 at Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Irene of Onyx; son Phillip of Maywood; daughter Joan Byers of Valinda; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Josephine L. Dougherty of Bodfish passed away Dec. 4 at Kern Valley


Hospital. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Judd of Bodfish; brothers Samuel G. Dailey of Stillwell, Kansas and Thomas W. Dailey of Overland Park, Kansas.


Mrs. Dougherty was a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past three years.


Funeral services for Josephine were conducted Dec. 9 at the chapel of the McGilley and Hodge Mortuary of Overland Park, Kansas with burial following at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.


Born April 11, 1916 in Overland Park, Kansas, Josephine Louise Dailey Dougherty was 71. Arrangements by VAlley Mortuary.


INFANT CHAD J. STORTZ-JACKSON


A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Kern River Valley cemetery for infant Chad Stortz- Jackson of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. David Snow, Pastor of the First Baptist Church. Chad passed away of accidental causes at Kern Valley Hospital on Dec. 1.


He is survived by his parents Linda Stortz of Lake Isabella, Timothy Jackson of Bakersfield; grandparents Ron and Susan Stortz of Bodfish, great-grandparents Theodore and Julia Stortz of Bodfish; aunt Sheila Stortz of Bodfish, uncle Ron Stortz, Jr. of Bodfish; godparents Rick and Le Ann Fenner of Bakersfield. Born April 16, 1987 in San Diego, Chad Jacob Stortz-Jackson was seven months old.

Laura J. Gamby


Services were held November 23 at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel in Bakersfield for Laura Josephine Gamby.


Mrs. Gamby was born July 3, 1901 in Leon, Iowa. She was a 60 year resident of Kern County, moving to Kernville from Taft in 1957. Since April of this year, she had been a resident of San Luis Obispo.


Mrs. Gamby owned and operated Gamby Realty in Kernville for many years. She was a member of the Kernville Methodist Church and member of the auxiliaries of the American Legion, Veterans of World War I and Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Kern River Historical Society, Grandmother's Club and a sponsor of Little League baseball teams.


Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Don Gamby and a sister, Anna Suburu.


Survivors include three daughters, Blanche Brewster of Long Beach, Donnette Dickey of Reno, Nevada and Frances Schimandle of Pismo Beach; 7 grandehildren; 12 great- grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Dalton of Bakersfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jesse Frank Norris of Southlake passed away Dec. 8 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife, Wilma of Southlake; sons Jessee of Southlake, Larry of California, Kenneth; daughter Lisa of California; brothers Gene of Weldon, Richard of Bellflower; sister Martha Elie of Long Beach.


Jesse Norris was a member of the Eagles and had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past three years.

Mr. Allam F. Riley of Newhall passed away Dec. 14 at age 102. He is survived by his six children including Bargara Hancock of Kernville.


MARY ELIZABETH WAITE


Services were held Dec. 14 at the Chapel of the Oaks, Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall for Mary Elizabeth Waite, who passed away Dec. 8, in Ridgecrest. She is survived by husband, Edwin Waite, Lake Isabella; son Richard Waite, Provincetown, Mass .; daughter Patricia Doherty of Saugus; two grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.


Born Aug. 18, 1904 in Brockton, Mass., Mary Elizabeth Waite was 83 years.

Bud Robart of Walker Basin died December 12. Mr. Robart had been a resident of Walker Basin for the past 20 years. He is survived by his wife Norma of Walker Basin and four children. Born December 23, 1903, Bud Robart was 74 years.

John R. Sargent


John R. Sargent of Wofford Heights passed away Dec. 10. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Evelyn of Wofford Heights; daughters Carol Douglas of Walnut Creek, Linda Bell of Virginia; brother Paul Sargent of Juneau, Alaska; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.


John Sargent was WW II veteran of the U.S. Army who served In combat in Northern Europe and the Ardennes Forest. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and the taking of the Remagen Bridge.


He had been a resident of the Kern Valley for the past four years, having resided in Pasadena. Bom Aug. 22, 1918, in Martensville, Indiana, John R. Sargent was 69.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Dec. 16 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Catherine Sargent of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Ruff, Pastor of Family Life Center of the Foursquare Church in Wofford Heights. Mrs. Sargent passed away Dec. 13 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


She Is survived by her husband Oscar; sons Robert of Santee, Don of Ridgecrest; daughters Barbara Birdwell of Santee, Marilyn Fleming of El Calon, Pam Murphy of Reno; 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted Sunday Dec. 20 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lake Isabella for Alberta Ashton of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. James Lee, Pastor of Valley Faith Center. Mrs. Ashton passed away Dec. 18 in Bakersfield.


She is survived by her daughter Shirley Hanawalt of Lake Isabella; two grandchildren. Alberta was a member of the Women of the Moose.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Dee. 22 at Committal Chapel of the Kern Valley Cemetery for Robert T. Ilunter of Isabella Highlands.


Officiating were officers of KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827 of which Mr. Hunter was a member.


He is preceded in death by his wife, Garnet and survived by friends Marge and Bill Henry of Ontario.

Constance A. Bullington of Southlake passed away Dec. 12 at the Kern Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa. She Is survived by her son Joseph of Lake Isabella.


Born July 26, 1901 in Riverside, Constance Ann Bullington was 86. A memorial for Mrs. Bullington was conducted Wednesday, Dec. 16 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, Pastor.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Dec. 19 at Kern Valley Mortuary Chapel for Donald Knollengerg of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. J.P. Robbie Robinson, Pastor of Weldon Baptist Church (Southern). Mr. Knollenberg passed away Dec. 16 at Kern Valley Hospital.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Dec. 30 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Harry B. Parkinson of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. James Lee, Pastor of Valley Faith Center. Mr. Parkinson passed away Dec. 26 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Lake Isabella; sons Donald of Southlake, Robert of Arizona, James of Huntington Beach; sister Lucille Hill of California; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Parkinson was a member of the Moose and resident of the Kern Valley for the past 18 years.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 9 at the Southern Baptist Church on Erskine Creek Road in Lake Isabella for Tina Marie Reilly, 26 of Torrance, who died December 19 in Redondo Beach, the result of a car accident. Tina Reilly is survived by her grandmother, Jennie Reilly of Corning, California; parents Danny and Geri Reilly of Bodfish; sister Touche Reilly of Bodfish; brother and sister in law Brian and Rose Reilly of Bodfish and brother Michael Reilly of Houston, Texas.


Born December 5, 1961 in Gardena, Tina Marie was 26 years old. Cremation was handled at Pacific Crest Cemetary in Redondo Beach.

A memorial service was conducted Wednesday, Dec. 30 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel Lake Isabella for Esther Brittsan of Wofford Heights. Mrs. Brittsan passed away Dec. 26 at Ridgecrest Community Hospital in Ridgecrest.


She is survived by her husband Robert of Wofford Heights; daughters Bonnie House of Woodland Hills, Sandra Benson of Van Nuys, Marilyn Evans of Simi Valley, Janet Hahn of Simi Valley, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Esther was a member of the Women of the Moose and Valley Senior Citizens and a 17 year resident of the Kern Valley.

MARK NORMAN ANDERSEN


Memorial services were held December 29 at the 16th Ward of the Church of Jesus Cjrist of Latter Day Saints San Diego for Mark Norman Andersen, 36, who died Christmas Eve day while flying an experimental aircraft that he was testing at the Lower Otay Lake area in San Diego county.


Andersen was a resident of San Diego, but a frequent visitor of the Kern Valley, He was an experienced pilot and for ten years a navy jet pilot. He is survived by his parents, Verny Eccles of Kernville and William Andersen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three brothers, Ted Andersen of San Diego, Kurt Andersen of Ramah, New Mexico and Dane Andersen of Los Angeles; nephew Ian Anderson of Ramah, New Mexico and a step brother and sister in law, Norman and Pat Eccles of Kernville.


Mark Andersen was born November 11, 1951 in Glendale, California.


Anderson was a graduate of the University of New Mexico with a degree in electronic engineering and was employed by Action Instruments of San Diego and active in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. At the conclusion of the memorial service, the Missing Man formation led by Commander Randy Duke Cunningham- ofthe U. S. Navy was flown at 1,000 feet over the area. Cremation will follow with remains to be interned in New Mexico. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mark Andersen Aviation scholarship, c/o 10684 Exmeraldas, San Diego, CA. 92124.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, Jan. 4 at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church in Wofford Heights for Vincent Zabko of Wofford Heights. Celebrant of the mass was Rev. Monsignor A.G. Herdegen, Pastor of the St. Jude parish. Mr. Zabko passed away Dec. 28 at Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield.


He is survived by his wife Ann of Wofford Heights; brother Joseph Zabko of Massachusetts; sisters Marian Czarnickie of Massachusetts, Stella McCarthy of Mass., Helen Harper of New York, Florence White of Long Beach and many nieces and nephews.


Vince Zabko was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Elks, Moose, Eagles, VFW, American Legion. He resided in the Kern Valley fo the past seven years. Born July 29

MAC MCCLURE


A funeral service was conducted Graveside at the Kern River Valley cemetery on Friday, Jan. 8 for Verle M. "Mac" McClure of Lake Isabella. Officiating were officers of KRV Post 7665, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Kern River Veterans Council. Burial was presided over by Fred Dodds. Mac McClure passed away Jan. 6 at San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield.


He is survived by his step-daughter, Linda McGrath of Ridgecrest and grandchildren.


During WWII, Mac served with the U. S. Army as a staff sergeant in the field artillery. He served in combat in the Southern Philippines. Born Nov. 20, 1921, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, Verle Manfred "Mac" McClure was 67. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Paul Michael Clark of Wofford Heights passed away Jan. 15 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ethel; stepson Ronald Kinstol of Covina; two daughters residing in New Jersey; nephew Ernest Eper jest of Califomia; grandchildren Wendy and Steven Kinstof both of Covina. Paul Clark had been a resident of the Kern Valley since 1977.

Keith J. Fullerton


A funeral service was conducted graveside at Kern Valley Cemetery for Keith James Fullerton, 75, of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev. James S. McGhee, Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Kerville. Mrs. Fullerton passed away Jan. 13 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife of 47 years Nell of Wofford Heights; sisters Mabel Patterson of Turlock, Lois Dimberg of Turlock, Mildred Quate of lilinois and Betty Dimberg of Turlock.


During WW II, Mr. Fullerton served with the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in the Pacific.


Mr. Fullerton was born Dec. 28, 1912 in Albia, Iowa and moved with his family to Turlock in 1930 where he finished school. He had been a resident of the Kern Valley since 1976. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Marie Ingram of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev. Paul McWilliams, Pastor of Highland Chapel United Methodist Church.


Mrs. Ingram passed away Jan. 12 in La Mirada.


She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer deceased in 1987 and survived by her brother and sister-in- law Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Wray of Montebello; nieces and nephews.

STANLEY D. McCAUSLIN


A funeral service was conducted Jan. 15 at the Williamette U.S. National Cemetery near Portland, Oregon for Stanley McCauslin of Beaverton, Oregon formerly of Mt. Mesa. Mr. McCauslin passed away Jan. 13 at St. Vincents Hospital, Portland.


He is survived by his wife of 22 years, June of Beaverton. stepdaughters, Susan Braithwaite of Beaverton, Carol Pulaski of Torrance and five grandchildren. Stan McCauslin was a Mason and a Shriner for more than 30 years. He was a member of KRV Masonic lodge No. 827, the Al Malaikah Shrine of Los Angeles, Bakersfield Scottish Rite Bodies, KRV Elks Lodge, KRV Moose Lodge and KRV Eagles Lodge. For the past eleven years, Mr. McCauslin was a funeral director for Valley Mortuary in Lake Isabella. He was a Califoria licensed embalmer for nearly 50 years. His license number was one of the oldest active license in California until his retirement in 1987. During WWII Stan served with the U. S. Navy as a chief pharmacist mate aboard ship in the Pacific.


Born Jan. 16, 1911 in Pottsdarn, New York, Stanley D. McCauslin would have been 77 last Saturday . Memorial donations to the Shrine Crippled Childrens Hospital in memory of Stanley McCauslin may be sent to 3160 Geneva St. Los Angeles, CA 90020.

Services were held in Greenlawn Southwest Chapel in Bakersfield on Jan. 14 for Jeremy Ryan Kirkham, 8 year old son of Joyie and Gary Kirkham, who passed away on Jan. 18 in Bakersfield. Rev. Ralph Brier and Rev. Oren Ice officiated. Jeremy was born in Bakersfield and lived there all his life. He was active in the Southwest Little League for two years and a member of Cub Scouts Pack 533.

OBITUARY


William Shoemake


Services were held for William Blackie Shoemake at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bakersfield on Jan. 22. He passed away on Jan, 18 at Lake Elsinore.


He was born in Texas on Nov. 28, 1918 and was a long time resident of Bodfish. He was a member of the Etks, Moose, Eagles, and Oddfellows. He also belonged to the operating engineers and was known in the C.B. clubs as Black Jack.


He is survived by wife Joan, three daughters, Laura Blackburn, Dana Shoemake and Carol Bradshaw of Bakersfield; three sons, Ronald and Noland Pitts of Lake Elsinore and Jerry Pitts of Glendale.


He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.


Edwin B. Woolley


Edwin Woolley of Weldon passed away Jan. 23 at Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife Ina of Weldon.


Born Jan. 21, 1917 in Los Angeles, Edwin B. Wooley was 71. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

LILLIAN E. SOMMER


Lillian E. Sommer of Wofford


Heights passed away Jan. 20 at Kern


Valley Hospital. She is survived by her husband Martin "Marty"


Sommer of Wofford Heights.


She is preceded in death by one daughter Beverly Ellen Mayo, deceased in 1985 and survived by


daughter Leslie Jean Chapman of Romoland, CA; grandchildren, Keith Huffman, Ricky Mayo, David Nayo, Donald Mayo and great


grandchildren Christopher Mayo and Kenneth Earl Huffman; one sister Alice Halbert resides in Toms River, New Jersey .


Lillian was an active member of the Women of the Moose and famous for her shrimp dinners.


Born April 7, 1912 in North Bergen, New Jersey, Lillian Elizabeth Sommer was 75.


A memorial service for Lillian has been set for Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Moose Lodge. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


HOMER RAWSON


A funeral service was conducted Monday Jan. 25 graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Homer Rawson of Lake Isabella; Officiating was Rev. Paul McWilliams, Pastor of the Highland Chapel United Methodist Church.


Mr. Rawson passed away Jan. 22 at the San Joaquin Community Hospital, Bakersfield.


He is preceded in death by his wife Pauline deceased in 1979 and survived by son Richard of Daly City and grandchildren. Born Jan. 12, 1902 in Longmont, Larimer County,


Colorado, Homer Horace Rawson was 86.

Irish Whiteside


A memorial service was conducted Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, in Kernville for William Walker Johnson Whiteside, known to his many friends as Irish. Officiating were officers of KRV Masonic Lodge. Irish passed away Jan. 19 Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield after itlness.


He is survived by his wife Marguerite of Lake Lake Isabella, daughters Maureen Worland of Sun Valley, Elsie Dahlin of West Covina, son Robert lan Whiteside of Redondo Beach; brothers Richard and Desmond of Ontario, Canada; sister Pauline Rose of Florida; nine children and eight great- grandchildren.
