Ted Economy
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 29 at 1 p.m. at the Kernville United Methodist Church for Ted Economy, who passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 22 in his home.
He was a resident of Wofford Heights for four years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Wofford Heights; son Darryl Stewart, daughter Donna Fielder and five grandchildren, Julie, Christi, Chonce, Demetri and Chelsea.
Ted worked for the Products Research Chemical Corporation for the last 15 years, before retirement.

Paul Currents Jones of Lake Isabella died August 29 in Ridgecrest.
lle is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sallie Jones of Lake Isabella. lle is also survived by a sister Marianna Riker of Maryland.
Mr. Jones was born in Thurmont, Maryland on December 21, 1908. He was 79 years old and a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 12 years.

Wofford Heights boy drowns in Isabella lake

A ten-year old Wofford Heights boy drowned in Isabella lake this week, the first lake drowning in several years.
Joseph Steelman was fishing with a friend Sunday afternoon at Free-ar Point In Wofford Heights, Around 4:30 p.m. the boys started to leave. When Steelman stepped off a rock, he slipped Into the water and was not seen again.
Isabella Lake Patrol was notifled Sunday evening of the missing boy. A search was Initiated Monday morning
by Kern Valley Search and Rescue members, who searched the shallow lake waters where the boy was last seen. Divers from Bakersfield Search and Rescue joined in the search.
At 2:30 p.m., Steelman's body was located by divers approximately 200 feet from shore, in about four feet of water.
Funds are being sought from community residents to help the family pay for funeral arrangements for the youth. Donations may be taken to Korky's Korner Kafe in Wofford Heights or any branch office of Santa Barbara Savings.
TRACY ALLEN GRIFFITH
Rosary was held last Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Ilillerest Chapel with Father Jean-Michael Lastiri of St. Phillip Apostle Church officiating. Funeral services were held Thursday at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel for Tracy Allen Griffith, 19, who passed away at U.C.L.A. Medical Center in Los Angeles on August 31.
Tracy was born in Hawthorne, and resided in Mt. Mesa for the last 13 years. He was a graduate of Kern Valley lligh School, class of 1986. He was an avid skate board lover; also had a deep interest in music and character drawings.
He is survived by his parents, Jim and Twila Griffith of Mt. Mesa; sisters, Dena and Tricla Griffith of Mt. Mesa; maternal grandmother, Emmerencia Pfannenstiel of Great Bend, Kansas; paternal grandmother, Beatrice Gable of Rye, Colorado.

Services were held August 25 at the San Fernando Valley Mission for Isabel C. Kearney of Bodfish who passed away August 22 in Van Nuys. Isabel was born March 3, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois.
She is survived by her husband, William of Bodfish; daughters Patricia Radis, of Van Nuys and Peggy Wood of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.
Isabel retired as a supervisor with the Automobile Club in 1972. She has been a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 20 years. She was a member of the Ladies of the Elks and a past president and the Grandmothers Club.

GRACE JANE OWER
A funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 11 at the First Baptist Church in Lake Isabella for Grace Jane Ower, Officiating was Dr. J. L. Collins of the Kernville First Baptist Church, with interment following at the Kern River Valley Cemetery.
Grace Jane Ower was born Feb. 10, 1907 in Indiana and died Sept. 4 in Mt. Mesa as the result of a tragic auto accident. Grace was 80 years old. She is survived by her husband of 12 years. Paul Ower of Wofford Height; son Charles Smith of Ridgecrest, Jimmie Smith of Ridgecrest, dauthter Mary Drinkard of Brea, Hallie Arevalo of Ridgecrest; 21 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren. She was a 20 year resident of the Kern Valley.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella with interment following at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Laurence Allen Read. Officiating was his son- in-law Mr. Kenneth Bushling, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mr. Read is survived by his wife of 49 years Ethel Read of Lake Isabella; daughter Linda Bushling of Lake Isabella; sisters Evelyn Ward of Washington, Aline Read of California; four grandchildren. Mr. Read was born June 9, 1918 in Oklahoma and died Sept. 9 in Bakersfield. He was 69 years old and an eight year resident of the Kern Valley.

Charles Henry Leonard was born Oct. 2, 1919 in Enid Oklahoma and died Sept. 4 in Arvin at the age of 87. He was a Master Mason, a Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite and an eight year resident of the Kern Valley.
PHILLIP UNGERBILLER
Services were held Sept. 2 at the Church of Our Heritage in Covina for Phillip Ungerbiller who passed away August 30 in Arcadia.
Mr. Underbiller was born March 20, 1912 in Dauphin, Pennsylvania. He was 75.
He was a member of the Good Sam Club and lived in Wofford Heights since his retirement in 1976.
He is survived by his wife, June and three sons, Robert. Jarnes and Jerry. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Ile is also survived by three sisters, Katie, Liz and Amy who reside in East Germany.
Hle will be sadly missed by his wife June, family and friends.

A private memorial service was held for Fred Van Mulligen of Kernville. Mr.Van-Mulligen was born Feb. 7, 1927 in California and died Sept. 12 in Mt. Mesa at the age of 60. He is survived by his wife of 36 years. A graveside service was held Thursday, Sept. 3 for Margaret Ann Reeves al Green Hills Memorial park in San Pedro. Officiating was Dr. Malcolm R. Lovell, First Presbyterian Church, San Pedro.
Margaret Ann Reeves was born in Tennessee on Nov. 13, 1919 and died in Mt. Mesa on Aug. 31 at the age of 67.

A funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 4 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella with interment following at Kern River Valley Cemetery for Elmer Earl Ingram of Wofford Heights.
Officiating were the officers of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 827 Kern River Valley.
Elmer Earl Ingram is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie Ingram of Wofford Heights; brother and sister- in-law Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Wray of Montebello.
Elmer was born April 13, 1896 in DesArc Arkansas and died Aug. 31 at the age of 91. He was a resident of the Kern Valley for over 30 years.

A funeral service was conducted Sept. 16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, Mt. Mesa for Beatrice Hale of Bodfish. A funeral service was conducted Sept. 22 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for Floyd M. Ingram of Lake Isabella, Officiating was Bishop Dennis Hlinkey, Mr. Ingram passed away Sept. 18 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.
Mr. Ingram is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alice of Lake Isabella; sister Laura Curtis of Sumner, Washington, daughters, Renee Ingram of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Yvonne Hayden of (fillette, Wyorning, Cheryl Ingram of Bakersfield; granddaughter Theresa Izzard of Laramie, Wyoming; grandson Marshall lannuin of Laramie, Wyoming; great grandsons, Joel West, J.J. Ilannum and Joshua Izzard.
During WWI Floyd Ingram served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Paris, France as Quartermaster Courier responsible for the transportation and delivery of army payroll
Mr. Ingram was a member of the LDS church and U.S. Veterans of WW I, the KRV Veterans Council and VFW. Born Nov. 1, 1899 in Belfry, Montana, Floyd Mason Ingram was 87.

A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery Wofford Heights for Harry Weiser of Lake Isabella. Officiating were officers of KRV Elks Lodge 2358, BPOE of which Mr. Weiser was a member.
Mr. Weiser passed away Sept. 16 at the San Joaquin Community Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Florence of Lake Isabella; brothers Sam Weiser of Arizona, Bill Weiser of Arizona; sister Ann Garber of Minnesota.
Harry Weiser was a member of the Elks and Moose and a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past ten years. .

A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Inglewood Memorial Park Cemetery for Thelma Gladys Nyers of Southlake. Officiating was Mr. Joel Astor of the Valley Mortuary, Mrs. Myers passed away Sept. 13 at the San Joaquin Community Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her husband Glynn deceased in 1980 and survived by her sons Donald Myers of Weldon and Richard Myers also of
Weldon; daughter Frances Stein of Auburn; sister Myrtle Crawford of Oklahoma; cousin Mabel Main of Lake Isabella; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. TED SETTLEMIRE
A funeral service was conducted Friday, Sept. 25 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Theadore E. Settlemire of Mt. Mesa. Officiating were officers of KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827 Free and Accepted Masons. Mr. Settlemire passed away at home Sept. 16. He is preceded in death by his wife Letha, deceased May 23, 1976 and survived by his stepson Jim Babcock, of Reseda; stepdaughter Evelyn Dutton of Canoga Park; sister Gladys Griffith of Texas; niece and nephews. Ted Settlemire was known to his many C.B. friends by the handle "Teddy Bear". He was a mason and a member of KRV Post 711 of the American Legion where he had served two terms as chaplain. Ted was also a Shriner and member of the Lake Isabella Shrine Club and the Al Malikah Lodge of the Shrine. He was a life member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. During WWII, Ted served as a medical corpsman and surgical technician treating wounded in the Asiatic Pacific. He was awarded the bronze star while serving in the Philippine Islands of Luzon and New Guinea.
Born March 11, 1907 in Hamlin, Iowa, Theadore Emmert Settlemire was 80.

Haskell Celeus "Hack" Crume
passed away Sept 20 at Kern Valley Hospital.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Iloe and survived by his sister

Hach was a resident of Kernville. He constructed his own home which was one of the first houses along Burlando Road.

A memorial service was conducted Saturday, Sept. 26 at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Kernville for Eldon S. "Buck" Cornette of Larsen Tract. Officiating was Father David Graham, Pastor of St. Peter's Church. Mr. Cornette passed away Sept. 22 at Mercy Hospital.

BILL DUNCAN HOWARD
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery for Miles (Bill) Duncan Howard, 84, who died Sept. 21 in a Bakersfield hospital after extended illness. Rev. John F. May of Canyon Community Church will officiate.
Bill was a native of Fall Branch, Tennessee and has lived here since 1926. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 93, the Lake Isabella C.B. Club. He had worked in the Kern oilfields from 1926 to 1962 and retired. He then opened his own business, the Idle Wheels Trailer park in Oildale and had been self-employed for the past ten years. In the late 1930's, he played on a softball championship leam for Texaco.
He is the father of the late Peggy Anderson and Billy Howard. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years in December, Mary C. Howard; four children, Haskell and Don Howard, both of Bakersfield, Paul Howard of Long Beach and Jewell Duetsch of Bakersfield; 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

RALPH E. KELLEY
Cryptside funeral services were held Wednesday at the Mauseleum in Greenlawn, Southwest cemetery for Ralph Edward Kelley, 62 of Lake Isabella who died Sept. 20 at Kern Valley Hospital, after a long illness. Dr. Gary Bashor of Calvary Baptist Church officiated. Ralph was a native of Sheffield, Alabama and had lived in Kern County for a number of years. He was a custodian for over 30 years and last affiliated with the Ford Motor Company.
He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the baptist Church and loved automobiles.
He is survived by his beloved parents, Iva Pauline and George Russell Fry of Bakersfield; sister, Paula Irene Hatfield of Lake Isabella, 2 nieces and 5 nephews.

Charles L. Brownie Morris passed away Sept. 24 at the Kern Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa.

Mr. Morris was a resident of the Kern River Valley for 24 years, a member of the Moose, 55-Plus Club and the Lake Isabella-Bodfish Property Owners Association.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Mary Ellen Lane, 75, of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. James Lee, Pastor of the Valley Faith Center, Lake Isabella. Mrs. Lane passed away Sept. 24 at Kern Valley Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joe Lane, deceased un 1978. Mary is survived by her daughter Pat Smith of Redondo Beach; son Carl Lane of Lake Isabella; grandchildren Dana and wife Jane, Gary and wife Julie, Carol and husband Rod, Gail and husband Larry, sister Alice llollingshead and stepmother Helen Flack and 8 great-grandchildren.
In 1966, Mary and Joe Lane started Lane's tool rental, R.V. and boat storage in Lake Isabella. They wrote and published the newspaper, the Lamplighter until Joe's death in 1978. Mary continued the boat and storage business with her son, Carl.

William E. Hess of Wofford Heights passed away Sept. 27 at Kern Valley Hospital, Nt. Mesa. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mildred of Wofford Heights; son Steven A. Hess of Wofford Heights.
William Hess was retired from the L. A. County Sheriff's department after 30 years. He had been a detective sergeant for more than 20 years and had served at the Lennox Sheriff's station in los Angeles. Born Dec. 17, 1916 in Norborne, Missouri, William Edgar Hess was 70. A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Kernville United Methodist Church for Gordon Ray McElfresh of Wofford Ileights. Officiating was Rev. Oren Ice, former interim pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, Lake Isabella. Mr. McElfresh passed away Oct. 1 at home after illness.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Jo Ann of Wofford Ileights; parents llarry and Vesta Mellfresh of Bodfish; daughter l'am Stieler and husband Mark of Wofford lleights; daughter Sue Exline and husband John of Fresno, son Craig and wife Michelle of Bakersfield; two grandchildren Stacey McElfresh of Bakersfield and Sandra Stieler of Wofford Ifeights.
Gordon McElfresh was a U.S. Navy Veteran. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the Pacific Fleet aboard the cruiser Los Angeles. He was a member of the Kern Valley Board of Realtors and was associated with Wofford Heights Realty. Mr. and Mrs. McElfresh have been residents of the Kern Valley for the past 18 years.
Interment at Kern Valley Cemetery, Wofford lleights. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

OBITUARY
HODGIE L. MOORE
Services were held Friday, Oct. 9 at Valley Nortuary, Lake Isabella for Hodgie Moore, who died at home Wednesday, Oct. 7. He was 66 years old.
Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach.
Hodgie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ursula; four daughters, one son; five grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters.
Hodgie was born in Texas and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a World War II veteran with Naval Air service in the South Pacific. After the war, he spent many years as a heavy duty rigger, including work on the Polaris Missile Project and the SEALAB II Navy project.
Hodgie was a resident of Lake Isabella for over 16 years. He and his wife, Ursula were previous owners of the Lake Isabella Motel. For many years, he was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Hodgie was a charter member of the Kern Valley Exchange Club and was a past-president. He was an active and enthusiastic worker on the club's programs, particularly in the prevention of child abuse, Neighborhood Watch and Vial of Life. OBITUARY
DOYLE L. BRAWLEY
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Doyle Lee Brawley, 64 of Onyx.
Officiating was Dr. Jerry Corbaley. pastor of Mt. View Southern Baptist Church. Mr. Brawley passed away Oct. 9 at the Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Delores of Onyx ; sons Gary of Lakewood; Rick of Lake Isabella, Doyle of Cerritos, Oscar of Downey; brothers Bobby Joe Brawley of Arkansas, Admiral Brawley of Lakewood, Leon Brawley of Buena Park; sisters Zelma Gallegley of Buena Park, Velma Dickerson of Arkansas, Fredis Lawrence of llawalian Gardens, Tredis Allen of Buena Park; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Doyle was a member of the Eagles and VFW. He was a WW II veteran of the Army Air Corps. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
