BENJAMIN CASPER


Benjamin Casper of Bodfish passed away March 22 at the Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Bodfish; son Tom and daughter in law Donna of Irvine; grand daughter Brandy of Irvine, grandson Michael of Seattle, Washington, sister Ann Ogran of Lompoc; brother Clyde Casper of Wofford Heights. Benjamin Casper had been a member of the Elks for 35 years and was a member of KRV Elks 2358. He was an avid golfer. Born June 3, 1917 in Montevitio, Minnesota, Benjamin Boniface Casper was 70.

JOE BEN SMITH


A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, March 29 at Committal Chapel if the Kern Valley cemetery for Joe Ben Smith of Lake Isabella. Mr. Smith passed away March 24 at Memorial Hospital of Greater Bakersfield, following open heart surgery.


He is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie deceased May 25, 1988 and survived by his daughters Doreen Schonmann of Lake Isabella, Joanne Lisowski of Torrance, Pat Bailey of Pasadena, 8 grandchildren and great- grandchildren.


Joe Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served aboard the battleship, Idaho. He spent most of his life as a hod carrier and plasterer in Los Angeles. Ile worked on many of the classic homes in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. Ile retired to the Kern Valley 19 years ago.


Born Sept. 15, 1906 in Chase, Texas, Joe Ben Smith was 81 years.


ELMA D. PIKE


Elma Pike of Wofford Heights passed away March 26 in Wofford Heights after illness. She is survived by children and grandchildren.


Mrs. Pike is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Pike.


Born Jan. 30, 1919 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, Elma Dean Pike was 69.

Committal Chapel of Kern Valley cemetery for infant Ronni BreAnn Lickliter. Officiating was Rev. Francis Edge, Pastor of the Penticostal Lighthouse of Lake Isabella.


Ronni BreAnn passed away at UCLA Medical Center March 20.


She is survived by her parents Charles and Colette Lickliter of Bakersfield; sister Charley Sue of Bakersfield aunt and uncle Lee Anne and Richard Fenner of Lake Isabella; , aunts Nettie and Red, Uncle Rodge, cousins Joshua and Jeremiah and many family friends in Bakersfield and the Kern Valley.


Born May, 1984 in Bakersfield, Ronnie BreAnn was 3 years and 10 months old.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, March 23 at the committal chapel of the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Robert G. Barnett of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. J.l'. "Robbie" Itobinson, Pastor of Weldon Baptist Church. Mr. Barnett passed away March 20 at the Ridgecrest Community Hospital.


He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret of Weldon; daughter Dolly Posey of Ilouston, Texas; sisters in law Mrs. James Barnett and Mrs. Sterling Barnett, both of Ilouston, Texas; three grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Born June 22, 1902 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, Robert George Barnett was 85.

Helen L. Purdy of Southlake passed away March 20 at the Memorial Hospital of Greater Bakersfield. She is survived by her husband, Calvin of Southlake; son George Bennett of California and two grandchildren."

A funeral service was conducted Monday, March 28 at the Committal Chapel of Kern River Valley Cemetery for Elmira Ueland of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.


Mrs. Ueland passed away March 25 in Lake Isabella.


She is survived by her husband of 46 years Walter of Lake Isabella; niece Paula Husted of Canyon Country, brother in law Allen Ueland of Denton, Texas; sister in law Alvina Ruben of Fountain City, Wisconsin; brother in law Kenneth Ueland of Marina Del Rey and many nieces and nephews.


Mira Ueland was a member of the Women of the Moose and resident of the Kern Valley since 1976.


Born July 9, 1915 in Wisconsin, Elmira Mira Ueland was 72.


BERNICE MOORE


Bernice A. (Buck) Moore passed away March 19 at his home in Havilah, at the age of 82. Born to Robert and Sandra Moore March 30, 1905.


He is survived by one brother Basil Moore, of Pismo Beach; sister Ona Lee l'hoder, Fresno; four daughters, Fern Fleeman, Fresno, Ona Lee (Toby) Johnson, Cortez, Shirley Bender, Havilah and Veverly Mickelsen, San Pedro. He had 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.


He is preceded in death by his wife Elsie and one son, Glenn.


Buck lived in the valley for the past 20 years.

A funeral service was conucted Friday, March 25 at the Committal Chapel of the Kern Valley Cemetery for Joseph Marengo of Lake Isabella. A eulogy was read by Joel Astor of Valley Mortuary staff. Mr. Marengo passed away March 23 at Kern Valley Hospital.


Ile is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary of Lake Isabella; sons Joseph E. Marengo of North Edwards, James R. Marengo of Oakdale, grandchildren Laura, Lisa and Mary Ann and one great- grandchild Melissa. Joseph Marengo is also survived by brothers George of Burbank and Steve of Washington, D.C. and one sister Margaret of Seattle.


Joseph Marengo was a WWI veteran of the U.S. Army. He served as a corporal with the U.S.A.E.F. in France and participated in military actions in the Argonne-Meuse area, St. Michel Salient, La Chappel and others.


Born Nov. 11, 1898 in Benvizhina, Italy, Joseph Marengo was 89. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


CAROLYN ROUTSON


A funeral service was conducted Saturday, March 26 graveside at Kern Valley cemetery for Carolyn L. Routson of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Donald Metcalf, Pastor of the Messenger Fellowship of Norwalk. Mrs. Routson passed away March 23 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


She is survived by her husband Raymond of Weldon; daughters Victoria Libby of Huntington Beach, Laurel Ghareeb of Lakewood, Randy Ford of Weldon, Sharron Routson of Weldon, Nancy Pope of Riverside; son James of San Juan Capistrano; sisters Charlotte Seat of Weldon, Carmelita Kerby of Bakersfield, Cleo Reil of Glendive, Montana; brother James Nance of Weldon; mother in law, Margaret Putney of San Pedro and 11 grandchildren.


Carolyn was a licensed vocational nurse who had worked in home health care in Los Angeles.


Born Oct. 11, 1931 in Gates, Oklahoma, Carolyn Lea Routson was 56.

GARY LEE STUCKER


A memorial service was conducted Thursday, March 24 at the Family Life Center, Foursquare Gospel Church for Gary Lee Stucker. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Ruff, pastor. Mr. Stucker passed away on March 21 in Oceanside.


He is survived by his wife, Patti; sons James and Kevin; daughter Sandra all of Roads End; parents Scotty and Maurine Stucker of Oceanside; brother Wayne Stucker of Chatsworth; sisters Paula Churchman of Northridge, Bonnie Gibb of Winnetke; grandmother, Carrie Murray of Oceanside.


Gary was an eighteen year resident of the Kern Valley.


Born Jan. 21, 1949 in Glendale, Gary Lee Stucker was 39.

PAUL E. POSKIN


A funeral service was conducted at the Committal Chapel of Kern Valley cemetery on Thursday, March 31 for Paul E. Poskin of Lake Isabella. Mr. Poskin passed away March 28 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred deceased in 1983 and survived by his sons John of Huntington Beach, Steve of San Jose; daughters Wanda Bemis of San Jose, Patricia Buss of Lake Isabella, Evelyn Martinez of Claremont;


brother Earl Poskin of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.


Paul Poskin was a member of Kern Valley C.B. Club and known by his handle, "Honcho." His late wife Mildred was "Georgia Peach." Paul was retired from the Atlantic Richfield Co. During WW II, he served with the Merchant Marines.


Born Dec. 25, 1916 in Kankakee, Illinois, Paul Emile Poskin was 71. Interment at Kern Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


C. JOSEPH BARNETT


C. Joseph Barnett passed away March 8 at Northridge Hospital. Cremation arrangements by Neptune Society, with burial at sea on March 18.


Mr. Barnett was born Oct. 2, 1917 and raised in Illinois, He moved to California in early 1950's. He was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Pearl Harbor Survivors, living there with his wife at the time of the attack.


lle is preceded in death by his parents and sister and survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Kernville; son Gorden and daughter, Melode; two grandchildren and a great grandson.

EDWARD M. FASSEL


A funeral service was conducted Friday, April 1 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for Edward M. Fassel of Bodfish. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, Pastor. Mr. Fassel passed away March 29 at the Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance.


He is survived by his wife, Loretta of Bodfish; daughters Margaret Mitzne of Westminster, Dorothy Wagner of Idaho, Patricia Zagarella, of Fallbrook, Barbara Nix of Bakersfield; cousin Mike and Liz Ibach of Hemet, cousin Joe Hugo of Santa Maria, cousin Pete Ibach of Chicago; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.


Edward Fassel was retired after 32 years of service with the Santa Fe Railroad. During WW II, he served with the U.S. Navy. Ed was a charter member of the KRV Moose Lodge. Born July 8, 1918 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, Edward Mike Fassel was 69.

A funeral service was conducted graveside at Kern Valley Cemetery for young Timothy Ray Hartman of Bodfish. Timothy passed away March 30 at Kern Valley Hospital, following illness.


lie is survived by his parents Claire and Callie llartmann of Bodfish; grandparents Claire and Audrey Hartmann of Lake Isabella and grandparents Roy and Lila Meyer of Pearlblossom.

RALPH W. BAGENT


Former Kelso Valley resident,


Ralph Bagent died March 17 at his


Lynnvill, TN. residence. He was 83.


Mr. Bagent was a retired


steamfitter and retired to Kelso


Valley in 1967. He was active in the Scottish Rite and Shriners. He and his wife moved to Lynnville in June 1986.


He is survived by his wife, Helen of Lynnville and daughters Charlene F. Budd of Lynnville and Janice Decker,


Fresno; sisters, Crystal Gentry of Mt. Mesa and Nora Pickerell of Morecroft. WY; three granddaughters and two grandsons.

She is survived by her sons Donald of La Mirada; Dale of Bellflower, David of Cottonwood; daughter Paula Kleinhans of Visalia; brother Jim Welch of Michigan; brother Art Welch of Perris; sisters Irene Grandpre of Michigan; Helen Coates of Michigan, Gladys Krueger of Michigan, Betty Gatlan of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband Roy, deceased in 1973. Gertrude Welch was a member of the Order of Golden Slipper, Grandmothers Club, Order of Eastern Star. Members of the Easter Star, KRV conducted the graveside services and eulogy.


Before moving to Visalia, Gertrude had lived in the Kern River Valley for 23 years.

A funeral service was conducted Thursday, April 7 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel Lake Isabella for Hugh Calev "Cy" Decker of Lake Isabella. Officiating were officers of KRV Moose Lodge No. 498 LOOM and officers of KRV Elks Lodge No. 2353. BPOE.


Mr. Decker passed away April 3 at Memorial Hospital.


He is survived by his wife, Opal of Lake Isabella; daughter Linda Long of Long Beach; stepsons Richard Carlberg of Nebraska; Donald Carlberg of Minnesota; sister Frances Toland of Lake Isabella; brother in law, Jack Toland of Lake Isabella, eleven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.


Cy Decker was retired from the Aircraft Maintenance Department of Trans World Airlines after 27 years of service.

Joann Reider of Weldon passed away April 7, the victim of a motor vehicle accident on Sierra Way in the vicinity of Robinson Cove of Lake Isabella. She is survived by her husband of 19 years Richard of Weldon; daughter Jennifer of Lake Isabella; mother Margaret Webster of Lake Isabella, brother Ron Fink of Lompoc. Joann was employed at Kern Valley Hospital, accounting department.

Richard T. Dickson passed away April 15 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife, Trudy of Kernville; son Tom of Washington; daughters Marlene Whitman of Washington; Caroline Dennis of Washington, Judy Moline of Washington, Shirley Wagner of Kernville, Linda McDonald of Torrance, Judy Henderson of Bakersfield; brothers and sisters, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.


Mr. Dickson was a WWLI veteran of the U.S. Navy who served with the Seabees. Born July 26, 1914 in Minnesota, Richard Thad Dickson was 73. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

INFANT J.C. WALKER


A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, April 20 at the Committal Chapel of Kern River Valley cemetery for infant Joseph Chance J. C. Walker. Officiating was Rev. James McGhee, pastor of Kernville United Methodist Church.


Infant Joseph passed away April 14 at the newborn intensive care unit of the Valley Children; s Hospital in Fresno.


He is survived by his parents, Joseph F. and Sherry Lynn of Kernville; sister Stacy Lynn of Kernville; sister Sherry Lynn of Kernville; grandparents Bill and Esther Warnock of Wofford Heights, grandparents Bobby and Donna Walker of Albuquerque, New Mexico, great-grandfather J.C. Walker also of New Mexico and aunt, Shannon Walker of Texas; uncles Wayne Phelan, Kernville, Mike Warnock of Kernville and David Walker of Texas. Born April 13, 1988 in Bakersfield, infant Joseph Chance "J.C." Walker was one day old. Interment at Kern River Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

OBITUARY


Bobby Gene Kelley


Funeral services were held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel Saturday, April 30 for Bobby Gene Kelley, 54, who passed away April 26 in Bakersfield. Homer Jackson officiated.


Mr. Kelley was born June 25, 1933 in Arkansas. He retired from the Fullerton Police Department after 24 years of service. He was later employed by the Builders Emporium as a manager for 7 years. He and his wife have resided in Bodfish for the last four years. Mr. Kelley was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and served in the helicopter anti- submarine squadron, in the Utility Squadron Administrative Unit, Commander Air Force, Pacific Fleet Fighter Squadron and U.S. Naval Training Center.


Bobby was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 498.


Survivors include his wife, Beverly Kelley; sons, Danny, Tommy, both of Anaheim, William Spicer and James Spicer, both of Lake Isabella; daughters, Debbie Davis of Navato and Linda Chaffee of Oregon: grandchildren; one brother, Buddy Kelley of Downle; mother and father, Pittman and Anna Kelley of Lake Isabella.


In lleu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bobby Kelley Cancer fund through the Fullerton Pollce Department to be donated to the Ronald MeDonald Cancer fund for children.

Anton J. Mestyanek passed away on April 26 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret of Onyx; daughter Jacqueline King of Squirrel Valley ; granddaughter, Gail Kern of Mt. Mesa; grandson, Glenn King of Washington and five great- grandchildren.
