Irish was a Master Mason and member of the KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827, a member of the Scottish Rite bodies of Bakersfield, the Al Malaikah Lodge of the Shrine, a sentinal of the Eastern Star, member of the Moose Lodge. No 498 and the El Segundo Rod and Gun Club.


Irish was the recognized expert on fishing and hunting the Kern Valley. He published a column in this paper on fishing and hunting and broadcast a radio show on KVLI radio. Irish had dedicated his retirement years to the advancement of wildlife conservation and betterment of fishing and hunting. He conducted a fishing derby to advance the cause. Irish had patented a fishing lure that he marketed in California, known as "Irish's Holy Lure".


Irish will be remembered for his knowledge, dedication and 'brogue'.

BASILIO M. BAIZ


A memorial mass for the repose of the soul of Basilio Baiz of Wofford Heights was celebrated at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church on Monday Feb. 1. Celebrant of the mass was Rev. Monsignor Anthony G. Herdegen, Pastor of St. Jude Parish. Mr. Baiz passed away Jan. 27, the victim of a highway accident on Highway 155 near Sawmill Road. He is preceded in death by his wife Lynne Baiz, deceased June 1987 and survived by sons Raymond of La Puente, David of West Covina, daughters Angie Auston of Arizona, Eileen Baiz of El Monte, Annie Kriedel of Paso Robles, Maria Chavez of Las Vegas; eleven brothers and sisters and 16 grandchildren. Mr. Baiz was retired from the military. He had served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and with the U. S. Navy and a Seebee during Korea and Vietnam. Born Aug. 23, 1924 in Los Angeles, Basilio Martinez Baiz was 63.

A memorial service was conducted Tuesday, Feb. 2 at the KRV Elks Lodge, Wofford Heights for Maxine Martinet, 69 of Lake Isabella. Officiating were officers of the Ladies of the Elks. Mrs. Martinet passed away Jan. 28 at the San Joaquin Community Hospital.


She is survived by her husband Romero of Lake Isabella; daughter Joyce Emmons of La Palma; son Kenneth Martinet of Cucamonga; sister Pollyann Brandenburg of Pasadena and two grandchildren.

Elsie G. Seyle


A funeral service was conducted Monday, Feb. I at the Kemville Methodist Church for Elsie Seyle, 85 of Kernville. Officiating was Rev. James McChee, Pastor.


Mrs. Seyle passed away Jan. 28 at Mercy Ilospital, Bakersfield.


She is survived by her husband of 40 years Omar of Kernville; two brothers Stanley and Lionel Merritt both of Arizona neices and nephews. Interment at Kern Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Jones H. Tarwater


Jones Il. Tarwater of Wofford lleights passed away Jan. 30 at the San Joaquin community hospital, Bakersfield.


He is survived by his friend Eleanor Rogers of Kernville; nephews Dean King and Charles Woodard both of Missouri; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


Mr. Tarwater was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army who served in combat in the Ardennes Forest, Central Europe and Rhineland. He was awarded bronze stars for these battles. Prior to WWII he served with the U.S. Marines


Born March 22, 1912 in Webb City, Missouri, Jones lienry Tarwater was 75.


Bill Stone


A funeral service was conducted Friday, Jan, 29 at the commital chapel of the Kern River Valley cemetery for William W. Stone of Southlake. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lake Isabella. Mr. Stone passed away Jan. 27 in Sylmar.


He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lucille deceased in June 1987. Bill is survived by his daughters Jeannie Blake of Sylmar, Jack Nelson of San Fernando and four grandchildren, Bill and Lucille were members of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and the Elks.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Feb. 6 at the committal chapel of the Kern River Valey Cernetery for Hattie Lou Shuck of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. James S. McGhee, Pastor of the Kernville Methodist Church.


Mrs. Shuck passed away in Las Vegas on Feb. 2.


She is survived by her daughter Margaret Woods of Henderson, Nevada, son Charles Shuck of Downey: sister of

Dorothy Jane Anderson of Wofford Ifeights passed away Feb. 4 at the Memorial llospital of Greater Bakersfield.


She is survived by her husband of 60 years Clarence of Wofford Heights and sister Kay Potrecz of Wofford Heights.


Dorothy was a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 22 years. She was a member of the KRV Womens Club and KRV Golf Course.


Born Nov. 25, 1909 in Harper, Kansas, Dorothy Jane Anderson was 78.

Max C. Fiele died January 29, in Placerville, California.


Hle moved to the Kern Valley in the 1970'S and lived here for approximately 15 years.


He is survived by his son Collin Fiele of Pollock Pines, CA; and daughter, Susan Day of Kernville; two grandchildren, three great- grandchildren; sisters Ruth Giokie and Julia Gilmore, both of El Centro.

LINDA EINARSON


A memorial service was conducted Saturday Feb. 20 at the Sheperd of the Hills Lutheran Church Lake Isabella for Linda Lee Marie Einarson of Bodfish. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, pastor. Mrs. Einarson passed away Feb. 14 at the Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield. She is survived by her husband of 22 years Pete of Bodfish; parents Leonard and Virginia Pearson; daughter Shannon of Bodfish; three brothers Daryl, Rodney and Dick; three sisters Bonnie, Nancy and Pat. Linda had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past three years, and was active as a troop leader in the Brownies.

Chilton S. Stout


A funeral service will be conducted Friday, Feb. 26 graveside at the Forest Lawn Memorial park in Cypress for Chilton Stout of Canyon Meadows-Bodfish. Officiating was pastor Roger Magnuson of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Long Beach.


Stout passed away Feb. 21 at the Kern Valley Ilospital, Mt. Mesa.


He is survived by his wife Frieda of Bodfish; daughter Louise Warren of Rancho, CA; granddaughters Sue Keller of Rancho, CA, Jane Petrich of Santa Barbara and four great- grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday, Feb. 29 at the committal chapel of the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Edwin Francis "Buster" Mellin of Wofford Helghts. Officiating were officers of the Kern River Valley veterans council.


Mr. Mellin passed away Feb. 12 at the Memorial Hospital of Greater Bakersfield. Buster Mellin was a WW II veteran of military service and member of the American Legion and VFW.


Born Dec. 7, 1906 in Massachusetts, Edwin F. Mellin was 81.

Judi Pride passed away at home after illness.

Mr. Daniel passed away Feb. 26 at the Kern Valley llospital. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Margaret of Wofford Heights, sons l'aul, Jr. of Wofford Heights, John of Norwalk, daughter l'aulette Stewart of l'lorida; brother Robert Daniel of Kansas; sister Leila Crossno of Ohio. sister Alice Pierce of Arkansas, eight grandchildren; great. grandchildren. Paul Daniel was an Elk, and member of the VFW and EI Segundo Rod & Gun Club.


During WWII Paul Daniel served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aircraft armorer and gunner in Europe.


Born Oct. 1, 1916 in Logan County, Arkansas, Paul Fitzgerald Daniel was 71. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary .


Marie Shoemaker


A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Lakeside Chapel of Westminster Memorial park in Westminster for Marie Hedges of MI. Mesa. Officiating was Rev. Paul Estebo, pastor of the New Hope Community Church of Westminster. Mrs. Shoemaker passed away at home Feb. 24.


She is survived by her husband John L. Shoemaker of Mt. Mesa; daughter Phyllis Hunter of Lake Isabella; grandsons Leon Brink, Eugene Brink and Leslie Browning: one brother Chester Hedges of Kansas and many great .. grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.


During her life, Marie was a beautician, a motel owner and operator, an aircraft assembler and shipyard worker (during WW II) and a real estate developer.

ABRAHAM M. COUTS


Graveside services for Abraham Minton Couts were held Jan. 18 at


Jacksonville Cemetery, Jacksonville, Oregon. Rev. Fred De Vos of Brownsboro Community Church officiated.


Mr. Couts was born Aug. 15, 1913 in Snyder, OK. and moved to California in the early 1930's.


He was a physical therapist and operated the Miracle Hot Springs bath and therapy in the 1960's. In the 1970's he was physical therapist for Kern Valley Hospital, before his retirement to Oregon. He is survived by his wife, Lois; son Ronald, daughter LaRene Johnson; five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren all of Oregon.

Mr. Moore was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army and had served with the Nasa space program as an astronomer.


Born March 17, 1925 in Pennsylvania, Roger Chandler Moore was 82.

Albert Shipley of Larsen Tract passed away March 5 at Kern Valley Hospital.


Mr. Shipley was preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian Ruth Marsh, deceased in 1963 and survived by his wife of 61 years, Alpha Mae of Larsen Tract; sons Donald "Bill" Shipley of Pasadena, Martin Shipley of Altadena; daughter Mary Botner of Columbia, Missouri; nephew Verdell Daly of Columbia, Missouri; nine grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren. Mr. Shipley was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church of Harrisburg, Missouri. Born July 18, 1906 in Boone County, Missouri, Albert Daniel Shipley was 81.

Champ was an auto parts salesman who worked for many years at Ivey Auto Parts in Lake Isabella. He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Navy. Born May 4, 1912 in Oklahoma, Gordon Champ Clark was 75. March 5 at Inglewood Park Mortuary and Cemetery.


Scott was born May 24, 1965 and was 22 years of age at the time of hi. death. He lived in the Kern Valley fo six years before moving to Palmdale in 1986.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, March 14 at the Valley

Leo W. Ranta, of Squirrel Valley. Officiating was Rev. Roger


Nebergall, Pastor of the Evangelical Free Church of Lake Isabella. Mr. Ranta passed away March 11 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Squirrel Valley; son Larry of Sherman Oaks; daughter Linda


Bowers of Blountville, Tennessee; brother Ty Ranta of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister Marie Ranta of Kinney, Minnesota.


Leo Ranta was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Navy who served with the


Seabees. He was a retired reinforcing iron worker and was a member of the local 416 of the Reinforcing Iron Workers Union.


Born May 13, 1913 in Gilbert,


Minnesota, Leo William Ranta was 74.

GOLDIE KUTNYAK


A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church for Goldie Kutnyak of Lake Isabella. Celebrant of the mass was Reverend Monsignor Anthony Herdegen, Pastor of St. Jude Parish.


Mrs. Kutnyak passed away March 14 at Memorial Hospital, Bakersfield. She is survived by her husband, Ivan of Lake Isabella; son Terry of Buena Park; daughters Jacqlyn Shackelford of Anaheim, Joyce Eyring of Merced. Goldie had been a cook at the old Mt. Mesa Restaurant. Born Oct. 31, 1919 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Goldie Kutnyak was 68.

RICHARD S. KYT


A memorial service was conducted Tuesday, March 22 at the Family Life Center of the Foursquare Gospel Church for Richard S. Kyt of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Ruff, Pastor. Mr. Kyt passed away on March 16 at Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his son Randy of Wofford Heights; brother Lucky of Bodfish; two grandchildren Tony and April. Richard Kyt was a 20 year resident of the Kern Valley and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. Born Oct. 19, 1919 in New Leipzig, North Dakota, Richar Sylvester Kyt was 68. Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary. Interment of cremated remains at Kern River Valley Cemetery.

OBITUARY


SAMUEL PETITT


A funeral service was conducted Thursday, March 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Riverside for Samuel S. Petitt of Mt. Mesa. Officiating was Bishop Eldon McKell.


Mr. Petitt passed away March 21 at home after illness. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; children and grandchildren. Mr. Petitt was retired from the Santa Fe Railroad. During the Korean war, he served with the U.S. Army. Born May 9, 1935 in Los Angeles, Samuel Scott Petitt was 52. Interment at the United States National Cemetery, Riverside. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
