RAYMOND D. MANCZAREK


A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday Oct. 12 at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church, Wofford Heights for Raymond Manczarek of Wofford Heights, Celebrant of the mass was Fr. Robert Kirkpatrick, visiting Pastor of the St. Jude Parish Church. Mr. Manczarek passed away at Kern Valley Hospital on Oct. 9. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen of Wofford Heights, son Raymond Jr. of Beverly Hills, son Richard of Wofford Heights, son James of Anaheim; sister Lillian Waigel of Arkansas; four grandchildren. Mr. Manczarek was the owner of Wofford Heights Liquor and had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 16 years. Born June 6,1914 in Wisconsin, Raymond Daniel Manczarek was 73. LOUIS BRUNO


A funeral service was conducted Friday, Oct. 9 at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Louis Patrick Bruno of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Father Robert Kirkpatrick, visiting pastor of the St. Jude parish. Mr. Bruno passed away Oct. 5 at the Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Lawana of Lake Isabella.


Born Oct. 10, 1934 in Connecticut, Louis P'. Bruno was 52. Mr. Bruno was a Korean War veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

GLENNA ROSELLI


Glenna Roselli of Bodfish passed away Oct. 8 at the Kem Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa. She is survived by her husband, Sam of Bodfish. Mrs. Roselli was born Jan. 7, 1915 in Idaho, she was 72.

OBITUARY


Douglas Clifford Gaze


Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 20, for Douglas Gaze, 73 of Wofford lleights, who died on Thursday, Oct. 15, at home, following a short illness.


Services were held at the First Baptist Church, Lake Jsabella with Rev. David Snow officiating. Interment followed at the Kern Valley Cemetery, Wolford Heights.


Doug was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, Canada to Edgar and Clara Fawkes Gaze on May 14, 1914 and moved to California on Nov. 22, 1951. He had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for eight years.


Prior to his retirement in 1979, Doug was employed by the Automobile Club of Southern California as a World Travel Supervisor. lle retired after 27 years of service to the Club.


Past fraternal organization memberships included the


Oddfellow's Lodge, E'lks Lodge, and most recently. Kern Valley Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella.


He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nida, also of Wofford Ileights; daughter and son-in-law Pat and Dave Bavier of Tehachapi; son and daughter-in-law Ken and Doris Gaze of Bakersfield; son and daughter-in- law Larry and Jo Nielsen of Phoenix; sister and brother-in-law Gwen and Jack Greer of Vancouver, WA; brother Gordon Gaze of White Rock British Columbia, Canada; 14 grandchildren, 7 great -grandeluldren and one niece and two nephews residing in Canada.


The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Doug's name to the American Cancer Society, Kern Valley Hospital Home Health Agency ( Hospice) or First Baptist Church Memorial Fund.

Walter Sinko


Walter Sinko of Weldon, formerly of Pennsylvania passed away Oct. 14 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Julia of Weldon; daughters Marie of Weldon, Barbara of Rancho Cucamonga; sons Nick of Fair Oaks, Oren of Redondo Beach, Basi of Antioch, Val of Miami; two sisters of Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.


Walter Sinko was retired as a machinist for General Motors in Pittsburgh and a member of the United Auto Workers.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Jo of Wofford Heights; sons Lugene of Kernville, John and daughter in law Denise of Redlands,


William Randles


William A. Randles of lake Isabella passed away Oct. 17 at Kem Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his sons Robert Fandles of Lake Isabella, Billy Randles of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; daughter Mamle of Detroit, brother Gerald of Montebello; sister Jean Randles of Montebello; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


In 1918, William Randles joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was trained as a bomber pilot and bombadier.


Born Feb. 23, 1900 in Wardsville, Ontario, Canada, William Allan Randles was 87.

A funeral service was conducted Friday, Oct. 16 at the First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella for Frank Jones, formerly of Harbor Light Trailer Park In Mt. Mesa. Officiating was Rev. David Snow, Pastor.


Mr. Jones passed away Oct. 13 at the Olive View Hospital, Sylmar.


He is preceded In death by his wife, Yolanda, deceased in 1979 and survived by his daughter Betty Modugno of Sylmar; Barbara Wilson and son in law Roy of San Diego; son Robert Jones and daughter In law Shirley of Bakersfield; sister Fern Machen of New Mexico and sister Anna Laura Gooch of New Mexico; 13 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren.


Frank and Yolanda Jones were known to their many friends in the valley by thelr C.B. handles of Roostertail and Henney Penney. Born Feb. 23, 1911 in Choctaw, Oklahoma, Lester Frank Jones was 78.

Herbert W. Johanson


Herbert W. Johanson of Wofford Heights passed away Oct. 12 at the Parkview Real Convalescent Ilospital, Bakersfield.


He is survived by one step-daughter and his friend Dor thy Mobley of Wofford Heights.


Mr. Johanson was retired from the China Lake Naval Weapons Center. Ile had resided at the Lakeview Guest lloine in Wofford lleights, where he was known by his friends as Little Joe.


Born Jan. 28, 1902 in Bremerton, Washington, Herbert Johanson was 85.

Celebrant of the Mass was Father Robert Robert Kirkpatirck visiting Pastor of St. Jude Parish Mr. Riley passed away Oct. 15 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


lle is survived by his wife, Loretta of Lake Isabella; son; Larry of Hawthorne, daughters Kay of Fountain Valley and Marilyn Thomas of Elliston , Montana; 11 grandchildren; sister Frances Durea of Nebraska and brother Gene Riley of Torrance.


Mr. Riley had been a resident of Lake Isabella for the past ten years. He was retired from Rockwell Corp, after 30 years of service. John Riley was a member of the Eagles Aerie 3156.


Born Sept. 27, 1909 in Dawson, Nebraska, John Lawrence Riley was 78.

EUGENE T. HICKMAN


A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church on Monday, Oct. 19 for Eugene "Gene" Hickman, 56 of Wofford Heights. Celebrant of the mass was Father Robert Kirkpatrick, visiting pastor of St. Jude Parish. Mr. Hickman passed away Oct. 14 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Jo of Wofford Heights; sons Eugene of Kernville, John and daughter in law Denise of Redlands, Christopher of Wofford Heights, Andrew of Wofford Heights, Matthew and daughter in law Augra of Beaumont, daughter Ann Marie of Wofford Heights, and two grandchildren; brothers Dr. Thomas Hickman of San Bernardino, Arthur Hickman of Connecticut; sister Miriam Creighton of New Hampshire. Gene Hickman was. retired after 30 years with the United States Air Force. Lt. Colonel Eugene T. Hickman was a command pilot with more than 10,000 hours of flying time in high performance military aircraft. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam era. Gene was part of the largest family of commissioned officers ever to serve this county. Gene hickman was born June 24, 1913 in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up near the old Dodger Stadium, Ebberts Field. After serving in the Korean Conflict as an enlisted man, Gene returned to New York where he married Mary Leach on June 5, 1964. After attending Fordham University under the Korean G.I. bill, Gene was awarded a Bachelors Degree in 1956. Shortley after graduation, he re- enlisted and completed basic pilot training in 1957. As an Air Force Pilot, St. Col. Hickman was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and numerous other awards.


After retirement, Gene was active in public service and community affairs. He served the grand jury and served as Leading Knight of the Elks Lodge No. 2358 in 1985-87. Gene was appointed by the


California Bar Association as alcohol and drug abuse counselor and served as volunteer alchol rehabilitation officer for the Kern River branch of Kern County Municipal Court. Colonel Hickman's outstanding accomplishment was his command of the airlift of Vietnamese orphans to the United States. For this, Gene was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Air Force Humanitarian Service Medal. His airlift unit was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation and an Air Force Outstanding Unit award. Graveside honors at Kern Valley Cemetery were rendered by officers of KRV Elks Lodge 2358. Military honors were rendered by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, Edwards Air Force Base. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

BENJAMIN STONE


A funeral service was conducted Friday, Oct. 23 at the Committal Chapel of the Kern Valley Cemetery for Benjamin Stone of Wofford Heights. Officiating were officers of the Kern River Valley Post 7665 Veterans of Foreigh Wars.


Mr. Stone passed away Oct. 16 at the Kern Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa. He is preceded in death by his wife Yolanda deceased in 1979 and survived by his nephew Keith Whitman of Oregon.


During WWII Mr. Stone served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific. He was a member of the VFW, Moose and Masons.


Born July 12, 1905 in Rhode Island, Benjamin Lewis Stone was 82.

Charles Adams, 68 of Kernville passed away Oct. 22 at home.


He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marian of Kernville; son Douglas of Michigan; daughters Sandra Nevins of Michigan, Sharon Eikelbecker of Michigan, son Larry Thomas of Tustin.


Mr. Adams had been a resident of the Kern Valley since July, 1987.

Abel K. LaFremier


A memorial service was conducted Monday, Oct. 26 for Abel Al Fremier of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Beebe, Pastor of the Shepherd of the Ilills Lutheran Church.


Mr. La Fremier passed away at home Oct. 22.


He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Esther of Weldon; daughters Margie Williams of Yorba Linda, Lillian Corville of la llabra, Irene Rutledge of Virginia; son Ilenry La Fremier of Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Abel La Fremier was a resident of the Kern Valley since 1972 having previously resided in La Habra.


Mr. La Premier had pursued a lifetime career as a truck driver. He was a member of th teamsters and was known across the highways of this nation by his handle, "Frenchy." Cremalion arrangements by Valley. Mortuary.

A memorial service was conducted Sunday, Nov. 1 at the United Methodist Church, Weldon for Robert Bray, Jr. of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Charles T. Smith, Pastor.


Mr. Bray passed away Oct. 27.at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield.


He is survived by his daughter Susan Napoli of Weldon, Robbie Pallendeno of Onyx; son Tom Bray of Diamond Bar; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and by many members of the Bray family in Arkansas.


Born May 26, 1910 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Robert Bray, Jr. was 77. Cremation by Valley Mortuary.


Mildred Dean Kite


A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Oct. 28 at the Committal chapel of the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Milford Dean Kite of Wofford Heights, Officiating was Joel Astor of Valley Mortuary. Mr. Kite passed away Oct. 25 at the Kern Valley Ilospital.


He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fern of Wofford Heights; daughters Betty Helman of Cool, CA, Suzanne Kuhl of Stanton; sister Vivian Johnson of Bodfish; seven grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Mr. Kite is preceded in death by one son Billy Dean Kite, deceased in 1975.


Milford Kite was retired from McDonnel-Douglas Corps after nearly 30 years of service. His was a ham radio operator and member of the KRV amateur radio club, who broadcasted using the call sign KEGYF.


Born Nov. 24, 1911 in College View in what is now Lincoln, Nebraska, Mildord Kite was 75. Interment at Kern River Valley Cemetery.

A funeral service was conducted Nov. 3 at the Comittal chapel of Kern Valley Cemetery for Margaret "Marge" Diederich of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev. James McGhee, Pastor of United Methodist Church of Kernville. Mrs. Diederich passed away Oct. 30 at Kern Valley Hospital.


Mrs. Diederich Is preceded in death by her husband Albert J. Diederich and survived by her sons Milton of Millville, CA, William of San Dimas; daughter Mary Jean Deiner of Hemet; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.


Marge Diederich was an accomplished organist who played for Eastern Star functions and for many years was organist for the Valley Mortuary in Lake Isabella. She was a member of Eastern Star and a member of the Kernville United Methodist Church.


Born Sept. 20, 1907 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Milton Keller and Sarah Markle Keller, Margaret Hellen Keller Diederich was 80.

A funeral service was conducted Friday, Nov. 6 at the Committal Chapel of Kern River Valley Cemetery for Charlene V. Barr of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Joel Astor of the Valley Mortuary Staff. Mrs. Barr passed away Nov. 2 at Kern Valley Hospital.


She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse A. Barr, deceased in 1976 and survived by her daughter Beverly Medland of Wofford Heights; son Randy Barr and daughter in law Rochelle of Colorado; grandsons Michael Miranda serving with the U. S. Army in Germany, and Matthew Medland of Wofford Heights.


Charlene Barr had been a resident of the kern Valley since 1950. She and her husband ran the old Onyx Store for 26 years.


Born March 9, 1912 in St. Joseph, Missouri, Charlene Virginia Bar was 75.

Little Shanelle passed away at home on Nov. 1 from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) Shanelle is survived by her parents Tawni and John; brothers Chad, A.J. and John Ryan; sister Tasha; grandfather Larry Brewer of Weldon; grandmother Dorothy Ambler of Washington, grandparents Larry and Ada Evans of Mt. Marjorie Strain Helton Brown


A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Valley Mortuary for Marjorie Brown of Kernville. Officiating were officers of Order of the Eastern Star, KRV Chapter.


Mrs. Brown passed away Nov. 8 at the Memorial Hospital, Bakersfield.


She is survived by her husband Robert of Kernville; son Joseph Strain and daughter in law Joanna of Bakersfield, grandsons Bryan and Jacob Strain of Bakersfield; granddaughters Marilyn and Johannah Strain of Bakersfield; brother Cecil Shore of Seattle, sister Dorothy Rojas of Carpenteria.


Marjorie was a member of the Kernville Methodist Church, Women of the Moose, Grandmothers Club no. 99, KRV Rock and Gem Society, El Segundo Rod & Gun Club, Eagles, Artists Association and Order of Eastern Star.


She had been a resident of the Kern Valley for nearly 40 years.


Born Sept. 12, 1914 in Lemoore, California, Marjorie Eugenia Strain Helton Brown was 73.

Roy R. Markham of Lake Isabella passed away Nov. 1 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Helen of Lake Isabella; brother Raymond of Burbank, brother Rayburn of Lake Isabella; sister Ethel Evans of California. Roy Markham was a resident of Lake Isabella for the past nine years. He was retired after 30 years of Service with the city of Burbank. Born Feb. 7, 1911 in Alba, Texas, Roy Robert Markham was 76. She is survived by her husband, Don Fien of Wofford Heights; brothers Alex Bednarz and Paul Muerer; sisters Elizabeth Kitten, Hildegard Kitten, Ellen Bednarz and Betty Halbaty.


Natalia Fien was a Lady Elk and member of the Women of the Moose and Eagles.


Born June 3, 1917 in Ohio, Natalia Olivia Fien was 70.

A memorial service was conducted Friday, Nov, 6 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Albert Tuplung of Mt. Mesa. Officiating were officers of the Kern River Valley Veterans Council.


Mr. Tupling passed away Nov. 4 at home after illness.


lle is survived by his wife, Katherine of Ml. Mesa; daughter Melody Pearson of Norwalk; son Albert Tupling, Jr .; stepson Fred Faulkner of Bakersfield; six grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Kern Valley cemetery, Wofford Heights on Friday, Nov. 13 for James R. Shell of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev.


Monsignor Anthony G. Gerdegen, Pastor of St Jude Parish Catholic Church.


Mr. Shell passed away Nov. 10 at the Memorial Hospital, Bakersfield.


He is survived: by his friends, Arthur and Faye Winemiller of Wofford Heights.


Mr. Shell was retired from Chevron Oil Company, where he had worked for 27 years. Born March 7, 1921 in Donora, Pennsylvania, James Regis Shell was 66.

OBITUARY


Lillian E. Freeman


A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, Nov. 20 at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church, Wofford Heights for Lillian Freeman of Weldon. Celebrant of the Mass was Rev. Monsignor Anthony G. Ilerdegen, Pastor of St. Jude Parish. Mrs. Freeman passed away at the San Joaquin Community Hospital, Bakersfield on Nov. 18.


She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas of Weldon; son Thomas, Jr. and wife Barbara of Thousand Oaks; daughter Ellen Marks of Bakersfield; grandsons Gary Garber of Saugus, Edward Garber of Palmdale, Kenneth Garber of Washington, Timothy Garber of Saugus, Steven Freeman and wife llene of Chatsworth, granddaughter Helane Freeman of Sherman Oaks and great granddaughter Kayla Garber of Palmdale.


Lillian Freeman was a meber of VFW Post 7665 Auxiliary. The Auxiliary conducted a memorial service for Lillian on Thursday, Nov. 19 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel. Eulogy was read by Ruby Dodds.


Interment at the Mission San Fernando Cemetery where graveside prayers were led by Father Jack Pryzgoda. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


John W. Lauts


Services were held on September 24 in Hemet for John William Lauts, who died at a Hemet hospital.


He is survived by his wife, Dorothy ; son John Jr .; daughters, Marilyn Jaffee and Yana Shayne. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.


Mr. Lauts lived in the Kern Valley for approximately ten years and was active in Whiskey Flat Days and other community functions.


He moved to Hemet in 1975, but had many friends in the Kern Valley.

OBITUARY


Thomas Martin Jackson


A funeral service was held Nov. 23 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Thomas Martin Jackson of Squirrel Valley. Officiating was Pastor David Snow of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Jackson was born Nov. 19, 1911 in Greenforest, Arkansas and died at his residence in Squirrel Valley on Nov. 18. He Is survived by his wife of 33 years, Coy of Squirrel Valley; sons Coy Eugene Jackson of Missouri, Thomas Jackson Jr. of San Bernardino; daughters Joyce Pebble Williams of Rialto, Ca, Sherida Selvick of Bakersfield, Marlene Campbell of Bakersfield, Novena Davis of Bakersfield; sister Juanita Buell of Lakewood; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Mr. Jackson was an 11 year resident of the Kem Valley.
