* From New-York Express, of Monday, June 5. 1854.

The late Mrs. Emily Judson, (whose death, at Hamilton, in this State, was announced by telegraph, yesterday, ) was about 40 years of age. Her maiden name was Emily Chubbuck. Her native place was Eaton, in Madison county, New York. She first became known to the public as a writer for periodicals, and under the assumed name of " Fanny Forester, " she acquired great reputation as a writer of refined taste. Iler success as a writer induced Miss Chubbuck to appear, under her literary cognomen of "Fanny Forester," as the author of " Alderbrook," and other volumes, in the school of light literature, all inculcating moral lessons, and tending to increase her reputation as a female writer of great delicacy and elegance of style. In June, 1846, Miss Chubbuck astonished her many admirers by an entire change in her career and pursuits, in announcing her resolution to devote herself to a missionary life, and of course leaving her native country with but doubtful prospects of a future return to her relatives and friends. At that time she became the third wife of the Rev. Adoniram Judson, D. D., Baptist missionary to Burmah, in Asia, and on the 11th of July she embarked with her husband and other missionaries, in the ship Fanueil Hall, from Boston for India. The missionary labors of Dr. Judson in Burmah, or eastern India, extended over a period of about thirty-nine years, terminating with his death in September. 1850. While in Burmah his views respecting baptism underwent a change, in consequence of which he left the Congregationalists in 1814, and joined the Baptist church. Soon after the death of her husband, Mrs. JJudson returned to the United States, and for the last two years had been in somewhat feeble health.

She was married to Mr. Fairchild, in London, about the close of the year 1662, and was his second wife. Mr. Fairchild died December 14, 1670. At or about the time of his second marriage, viz., on the 22d of December, 1662, Mr. Fairchild executed a bond " to John Win- throp, of Hartford," (who was then in London,) "for Mrs. Eliza- beth Whiting, of the city of London,"-with condition, that so soon as he, the said Fairchild, should arrive at Stratford, he would invest his wife with a good title to sundry parcels of real estate, situated in that town. This Mrs. Elizabeth Whiting may have been the wife of William Whiting, of London, merchant, son of' William Whiting, one of the first settlers of Hartford, Conn.

* John Kent (who was married May 9, 1686,) was probably born about 1660 or 1665. He died in 1721. Mr. Judd, in his letter of February 14, 1853. says,-" In the settlement of the estate of John Kent, a reference is made to the will of John Kent, his father. We may therefore assume that his father's name was John, but his place of residence is not given."

N. B. I think Mr. Judd is mistaken in his above statement, for being at Northampton August 26, 1853, I examined the proceedings in the county clerk's office ou the settlement of the estate of John Kent, (Book 4, page 101,) in which, among an account of debts due from the estate of John Kent, late of Suffield, deceased, I found the following entry, (it being no doubt, the same entry on which Mr. Judd, from hasty inspection, founded his opinion.) viz. : " Due to John Kent, for a yoke of oxen and a horse given to him in his grandfather's will, to which will, his father, John Kent, deceased, was executor." This entry is, I think, an index to the name of the father of John Kent, whose estate is here under settlement.

was endued by the great author of all good gifts, with a sprightly genins, a quickness of invention and readiness of thought ; was of a cheerful, sociable, compassionate, hospitable disposition,-furnished with a rich treasure of knowledge, both human and divine, which being sanctified by divine grace, rendered him very useful in life. As a Christian, he ex- celled in the cardinal grace of humility : was ever inclined to think low of his attainments and performances : he was enriched with many ministerial gifts and qualifications; with an uncommon faculty to preveut and heal difficulties ; was much improved and greatly serviceable in eouneils : but 'tis well known, to all his judicious acquaintance, that he ex- celled more especially as to pulpit talents. Ilis composition was truly good,-his matter sound and instruetive,-his manner of address, solemn and serions :- he delivered with a pathos becoming the importance of the subject ;- he was a faithful, painful, profitable, searching preacher, and as such was exceeded by but few ; and to human appearance, it pleased God to improve him as an instrument of gathering in many lost souls to Christ. Hle quitted mortality with a Christian fortitude and serenity, and with good reason we eon- clude he is gone to receive the rewards of a faithful servant of Christ. He left a second wife a disconsolate widow, and seven children. His bereaved widow is sister to the late Hon. Governor Fitch."
