* Great integrity, cheerfulness, frankness, sincerity, a strong and instinctive sense of justice, truthfulness that recoiled from a shadow of deception, and a deep reverence for God and sacred things, were the marked characteristics of her life.

t On the resignation of the first Principal of the American Asylum at Hartford for the Education and Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb, (Rev. Thomas II. Gallaudet, ) about twenty-three years since, Mr. Weld was appointed his successor ; and for this long period he discharged the duties of the office with dignity and ability.

In all his arrangements and matters of business, he was remarkably punctnal and syste- matic ; careful to do everything in proper time and in due order. In his intercourse with his pupils, his chief aim and most earnest endeavonr was to do them good, not merely by culti- vating their intellects, but by improving their characters ; by imbuing their minds with worthy sentiments and correet views. While solicitous to prepare them for usefulness and happiness in this present life, he was still more anxious to secure for them a blessed inherit- ance in the life to come. We doubt not, that in the great day of final revision, he will rejoice in the results of his labors and prayers. [ Rer. William W. Turner.]

In 1689, an indirect rumor having arrived, by the way of Virginia, of the landing of the Prince of Orange in Eng- land, and the consequent revolution in the government there, the people without waiting for a confirmation, determined to take its truth for granted, and simultaneously set about

accomplishing a revolution of their own. On the morning of the 18th of April, the town of Boston was in arms. The Governor and Council were seized and confined, and the old magis- trates reinstated. The country people came into town in such rage and heat as made all tremble to think what would follow. Nothing would satisfy them but that the Governor must be bound in chains or cords and put in a more seenre place, and for their quie the was guarded by them to the Fort. Whose hand was on the collar of that prisoner, leading him through the excited crowd, at once securing him from escape and guarding him from out- rage? It was the hand of DANIEL FISHER, of Dedham ; aye 'a second Daniel come to JUDGMENT, ' a son of the former, and heir of his energetic ardor in the cause of freedom."

The expulsion of Ilis Excellency tiov. Andros from New England, so graphically described by Mr. Haven, was of a very different character from his reception into Boston, as noted by Judge Sewell in his "Interleaved Almanack." "On December 19, 1686. Arrived at Nan- taskit, his Excellency Sir Edmund Andross, His Majesties Generall Governour, of his Terri- tory and Dominion in America. Ile landed at Boston, on the Monday following, and was received wth general Acclamation of Joy."

* Ile was a child when his father brought him to Dedham, in 1635, and he is described as one of an excellent spirit, peaceable, generous, charitable, and a promoter of the true inter- ests of the church and town. [Farmar.]
