JOSEPH WHITING was a merchant, first of Westfield, Mass., but returned to Hartford in 1675 or 6. He was Treasurer of Connecticut, from 1678 till his death, (39 years,) when his son John succeeded him, and continued in the office 32 years. He married 1. October 5, 1669, Mary, daughter of Hon. John Pynchon, and granddaughter of Hon. William Pynchon, the founder of Springfield, Mass .; her mother was Anna, daughter of Hon. George Wyllys. 2. In 1676, Anna, daughter of Col. John Allyn, son of Matthew Allyn ; (her mother was daughter of Hen- ry Smith, of Springfield, and granddaughter of Hon. William Pynchon.) She was born August 18, 1654, and died March 3,

William Pynchon, the princi- pal founder of that town, April 25, 1665. [After his death she was married to Doct. Thomas Hooker, of Hartford, son of Rev. Sammel Hooker, second minister of Farmington, Conn., and grandson of Rev. Thomas Hooker, first minister of Hartford, about 1686, by whom she had no children. ]

SARAH LORD was married to Rev. Joseph Haynes, third pastor of the First Church in Hartford, about 1668. He was son of Rev. John Haynes, of Hartford, first Governor of the colony of Con- necticut.
+ At a General Court holden at Hartford, October 11, 1643, " Richard Lord, for his mis- cariedge in draweing his sowrd and useing threatning speeches in contending wth Tho : Stanton about tradeing for indean corne, is fyned to pay to the County five pound." Mr. Stanton had married Ann Lord, sister of Richard Lord.
At a General Court holden at llartford, January 28, 1646, " Richard Lord, for transgress- ing the Order against selleing lead out of this Jurisdiction, is fyned seaven pound." Tho : Staynton, for the like transgression is fyned 5l. five pound.
At a General Court holden at Hartford, March 11, 1658, " The listed persons for Troopers, presented to this Court their choice of Officers, wch the Court did confirme : Richard Lord, Capt. ; Daniell Clarke, Lieftent. ; John Allin, Cornett'; Nicho : Olmsted, Corporall ; Richard Treat, Corporall ; Sam : Marshall, Corporall ; Mr. Tho : Wells, Junior, Quartr. Mr." Mr. Lord was a Deputy to the General Court, in March, 1659.
Both father and son of this name, merchants of Hartford, had commercial dealings in New London. The senior Mr. Lord, died in the place, and was interred in the old burial- ground. A table of red sandstone covers his grave, on which is the following inscription, in capitals :
AN EPITAPH ON CAPTAINE RICHARD LORD, DECEASED, MAY 17, 1662, ZETATIS SU.E, 51. JOHN STOW, of Middletown, Conn., son of Rev. Samuel Stow, of that town, was married to Esther Willcox, widow of John Willcox, of the same town, 1678. She was Esther Corn- well, daughter of Sargeant William Cornwell, of Middletown, and was married to Mr. Will- cox in 1671. He died May 21, 1676.
Mr. John Stow died June 30, 1732, in the 834 year of his age.
llis widow, Mrs. Esther Stow, alias Willcox, died May 2, 1733, " being about 83 years of age."

Ichabod Lord, Esq., sickened and died of fever, in Colchester, (where his remains were buried,) December 18, 1762, aged 50. His widow, Mrs. Patience Lord, died
