1793. Rev. Louis Dwight died July 12, 1854, at Boston, aged 61. Ho was Seere- tary of the Prison Discipline Society. from its original formation in 1825. " Though the life of Mr. Dwight was not prolonged beyond its grand eli macterie, yet it has been a long life when estimated by the 'great end ' it answered." [ Puritan Recorder, July 20, 1854. | Mr. Dwight was married May 20, 1824, to Lonisa H. Willis, daughter of Deacon Nathaniel Willis, of Boston. She died April 6, 1849. Mr. Dwight leaves three children, one of whom is the wife of Rev. William T. Enstis, of New Haven, Com.

Mr. Nathaniel Whiting died September 4, 1779, aged 87.

His widow, Mrs. Mary Whiting, died in, or about 1798.

TIMOTHY WHITING, of Medway, Mass., was married to Rhoda Bullard, danghter of Timothy Bullard, of Medway, April 20, 1796. She was born December 25, 1771. In 1815, Mr. Whit- ing removed to Washington County, Me., where he owned a tract of land, and where the town of Whiting, in that County, was named after him.


Mrs. Rhoda Whiting died August 15, 1805, aged 33.

WILLIAM EDWARDS, of Hartford, Conn., and one of the first settlers of that town, was married to Agnes Spencer, widow of William Spencer, who also was one of the first settlers of Hart- ford, about 1645.


Mr. William Edwards died before 1672 .*

* Mrs. Ann Edwards, the mother of Mr. William Edwards, was married in England to her second husband, Mr. James Cole, who, together with her son William Edwards, then a young man, and Abigail Cole, daughter of said JJames Cole, by his first wife, came early into New England, and were among the first settlers of Hartford.


Mr. James Cole died in 1652, leaving a will, of which the following is a copy :-


"I, James Cole, of Hartford, upon the river of Connecticut, being of perfect memory and soundness of minde, doe, according to my duty, (knowing the frailty of my body and uncertainty of my life, for the preventing of distractions to myselfe while I live, and differ- ency in my family when I am gathered to my Fathers, ) make and ordaine this, my last Will and Testament, and doe dispose of that outward estate wherewith the Lord hath of his abundant mercy blessed me in manner following.


" Impri: 1, give to my deare and well-beloved sonn and daughter Daniel and Abigail Sul- lavane, my new dwelling-honse in Hartford, with all other outhousings, orchard, garden, homelott, with all appertinances thereto belonging with one peice of land, being about five acres more or less, lying at penny wise within Wethersfield bounds ; as alsoe, one parcel of upland, being about fowre acres more or less, lying about the Wolfe pound, all web foremen- tioned lands and housing I give to them, and ther heires for ever, provided that my sonn Daniel and daughter Abigail, pay yearly to my deare and Well beloved wife Ann Cole, the just and full summ of three pounds in good current pay during her naturall life. further my Will is, That my wife should have an upper roome at the South end of my new dwelling- house during her widowhood with free liberty of egress and regress without molestation. further, my Will is, that shee my wife Ann Cole, should have the use of their firering for her owne comfort in any respect ; as also any fruit or herbes in the orchard or garden for her owne partienlar spending ; as also the use of the well belonging to the house. further if my wife desires to keep a cow, or a hogg, or some poultry for her perticular use, she providing meat for them, my will is, that she shall have yard roome for Them wher my Sonn Daniels Cattel are nsually yarded.


"Item. I give all my Cooper Tooles equally to be divided between my well-beloved sonn William Edwards, and my Loving Cousen Henry Cole. Item. I give to my deare and well beloved wife Ann Cole, all my household stuff of every kind undisposed of, with all my Cat- tell and Crop of Corne now one the ground with all my debts owing to me, provided that shee pays all my just debts and defray all that charge wch shall be thought necessary by the overseers of this my will, for my christian burial. also, I doe desire and appoint my trusty and well beloved Friends, Mr. John Webster, and William Gibbons overseers of this my will, and. further, I doe appoint my deare and well-beloved Ann Cole, to be my sole exeeutrix of this my last Will and Testament.

Rev. TIMOTHY EDWARDS, of East Windsor, Conn., and Pas- tor of the Church in that town, was married to Esther Stoddard, daughter of the Rev. Solomon Stoddard, Pastor of the Church in Northampton, Mass., November 6, 1694. Mr. Edwards was graduated at Harvard University in 1691, and ordained Pastor of the Church of Christ in East Windsor, May, 1694.


Rev. Timothy Edwards died January 27, 1758, in the 89th year of his age.


Mrs. Ann Cole; alias Ann Edwards, died February 20, 1679. A short time before her decease; she made a verbal disposition of her estate, which, as entered on the Records of the Court of Probate for the District of Hartford, is as follows, ris. :


" Mrs. Cole declaring that it was her minde, that after her decease, her home and Land should be to her son William Edwards, he only to have the use & Improvement for himselfe & wife during their naturall life, & then it should return to her Grandson Richard Edwards & to his heires forever, and the like dispose she made of the other part of her estate, as ap- peares by the Testimony of Mr. Saul Willy, Mr. Jonathan Gilbert, and Wm. Edwards, which the Court approves of & confirmes, & this Court Granted Administration upon the cstate to Richard Edwards, who accepted the same in Court."

To William Davenport, first of Hartford, Conn., then of Stonington, Conn., and afterwards, of Coventry, Conn., 1702. She was his second wife. His first wife was Elizabeth Nichols, daughter of Cyprian Nichols, of Hartford. She died February 19, 1697, aged 27. By her he had one child only, William.


Mr. William Davenport died in Coventry, June 29, 1742, in the 77th year of his age.


Mrs. Ann Davenport, alias Richardson, died in Coventry, May, 1764, aged about 86.

40 Jonathan, bap. November 21, 1697, at Hartford. Settled in Stonington, married Anna Treat, daughter of Rev. Salmon Treat, minister of Pres- ton, Conn., October 25, 1721. Three children are recorded to them.

Henry Barnard, LL. D., Superintend- ent of the Public Schools of Connecti- cut, and President of the Connecticut Historical Society. JOHN EDWARDS, of Hartford, Conn., was married to Christian Williamson, supposed sister of Caleb Williamson, of Hartford. formerly of Barnstable, Mass., December 14, 1719.


Mrs. Christian Edwards died January 18, 1769, aged -. Deacon John Edwards died May 16, 1769, aged 75.

Mrs. Hannah Backus died in Hartford, October, 1747, aged 51. Mr. Joseph Backus died in Norwich.

DANIEL EDWARDS, of Hartford, Conn., was married to Sarah Hooker, daughter of Nathaniel Hooker, of Hartford, and grand- daughter of the Rev. Samuel Hooker, Pastor of the Church in Farmington, in the same State, 1728.


Hon. Daniel Edwards died at New Haven, Con., September 6, 1765, in the 65th year of his age.


His widow, Mrs. Sarah Edwards, died JJuly 31, 1775, aged 70.

SAMUEL EDWARDS, of Hartford, Conn., was married to Jerusha Pitkin, daughter of William Pitkin, of Hartford, east side, and grand-daughter of Hon. William Pitkin, one of the early settlers of Hartford, 1731. [After the death of Mr. Edwards, she was married to Rev. Ashbel Woodbridge, Pastor of the Church in Glastonbury, Conn., November 17, 1739. He died Angust 6, 1758, in the 55th year of his age. Ile was son of Rev. Timothy Woodbridge, 6th minister of the First Church in Hartford.]


Mr. Samuel Edwards died November 4, 1732, aged 30.


Mrs. Jerusha Edwards, alias Woodbridge, died July 31, 1799, in the 89th year of her age.

Rev. Mr. Samuel Hopkins died October 5, 1755, in the 62d year of his age.
