After his death, she was married to Dr. Edward Tudor, of Middlebury, Ver., where she died. Dr. Tudor was a native of East Windsor.

Rev. Simon Backus died in Stratford, Conn., August 7, 1823, in the 86th year of his age. His remains were interred at Bridge- port, Conn.


His widow, Mrs. Rachel Backus, died in Stratford, Conn., July 28, 1825, aged 79 years, 9 months and 4 days. Her remains were also interred at Bridgeport.

WILLIAM SPENCER.


WILLIAM SPENCER, brother of Thomas and Jared, had been at Cambridge, in 1631, and was a representative in 1634-5. He was one of the first settlers of Hartford, Conn., and in 1639, a selectman of that town ; was married (in England probably) to Agnes -, about 1633. [After his death, she was married to William Edwards, who, likewise, was one of the first settlers of Hartford.]


Mr. Spencer was one of the deputies in the General Court in 1639, and appointed with Mr. Wyllis, and Mr. Webster to prepare the first revisal of the laws in that year.

By this marriage, Mr. Nichols had one child only, a daughter, Elizabeth, bap. January, 14, 1700; who was married to William Davenport, of Hartford, being his second wife.]


Capt. Cyprian Nichols died January 2, 1756, aged 84.

Was married to Ebenezer Barnard, of Hartford, Conn., July 17, 1747, at Wethersfield. [Wethersfield Church Records.] After her death, he was again married to - by whom he had two children. Mrs. Thankful Barnard died August 25, 1780, aged 58. Mr. Ebenezer Barnard died April 19, 1799, aged 73. Children,-Thank- ful, bap. March 24, 1751, married Rev. Allyn Mather, of New Haven, and after his death, Ebenezer Town- send, Esq., of New Haven. He died -; she died in Middletown, Conn., at the house of her son-in-law, Na- than Starr; she had children, by her first husband, Increase, died in in- fancy; Allyn, was a lawyer, but left his profession, and went to sea as commander of a ship employed in the European trade, and was lost in the English channel, in a storm; Sophia; the children by her sec- ond husband, were Elihu, settled in the city of New York, died 1853, was of the late firm of Nevins & Townsend, of that city, brokers; Grace, married Nathan Starr, of Mid- dletown. Cyprian, bap. September 2, 1753, settled in Hartford, died No- vember, 1832; had several children, among them, Edwin Barnard, of Wa- terville, Wis., merchant. Timothy, bap. June 20, 1756, settled in Hart- ford, but subsequently removed to Mendon, Munroe Co., New York, married Phebe Dewey, daughter of Daniel Dewey, of Sheffield, Mass .; he died March 29, 1847; she died -; they had ten children, among them, Hon. Timothy Barnard and E. Henry Barnard, both of Mendon, and Hon. Daniel D. Barnard, of Al- bany, N. Y. Daniel, bap. July 13, 1760, died October 7, 1763. Ebene- zer, born 1761, settled in Hartford, married Elizabeth Lane; she died -; he died May 8, 1827, aged 78;
