CALEB SPENCER, of Bolton, Conn., until 1774, then of Wilkes- Barre, Penn., until about 1793, when he removed to Kentneky, was married to Hannah llebard, widow of Ebenezer Hebard, de- ceased, and daughter of Andrew Downer, of Norwich, Conn., about 1760.


" Doct. Avery Downer, the last survivor of the battle of Fort Griswold, died at Preston, on Saturday, July 15, 185.1, aged 91 years and 8 months. He was at Fort Griswold with his father, who also was a physician at the time of the massacre, and assisted to dress the wounds of the soldiers." [Connecticut Courant, Sat- urday, July 22, 1854.] Doct. Avery Downer was a son of Doct. Joshua Downer, of Preston, born August 6, 1735, son of Andrew Downer, of that place, and brother of' Hannah Downer, who mar- ried Ebenezer Hebard, and after his death, Caleb Spencer.


Mrs. Hannalı Spencer, alias Hebard, died at Wilkes-Barre, in the spring of the year 1779. of small-pox, aged 55.

Children. 14, 1761, in Bolton. Settled in Wilkes-Barre. Was in the battle of that place, July 3, 1778, and escaped unhurt. Mar- ried Sally Johnson about 1779. Re- moved from Wilkes-Barre to Ken- tucky, in company with his father, about the year 1793, and at the time of his removal, had several children, smart and promising.

Married Richard Inman, of Wilkes- Barre, about 1779. He was one of several brothers, two of whom were killed on the battle-field, July 3, 1778, and two more by skirmishing parties of Indians, in the same year. Mrs. Hannah Inman died in March, 1835, aged 73. Mr. Richard Inman died in July, 1881, aged 77. They had a numerous family of children, who are all removed to the " western country."

JOB SPENCER, first of Bolton, Conn., then of East Haddam, Conn., and afterwards of Salisbury, in the same State, was mar- ried to Rebecca Chapman, daughter of Jabez Chapman, Esq., of East Haddam, November 13, 1746. She was born May 16, 1725. Mrs. Rebceca Spencer died in Salisbury, July 22, 1792, aged 67.

She died August, 1788, aged 54. 2. To Martha Chatfield, widow of John Chatfield, deceased, of Killingworth, 1789.
