REV. SAMUEL STONE, one of the first settlers of Hartford. Conn., and second Pastor of the First Church in that town, appears to have been twice married. 1. To 2. To Eliz- abeth Allen.# His wife survived him and was married to George Gardiner of Salem. Mass,, merchant. [Mr. Gardiner appears to have been of Hartford in 1673.]


Mr. Samuel Stone, the Reverend Teacher of the Church of Christ at Hartford. died July 20, 1663.1

Inasmuch as all men on earth are mortall, and the time of dying, w the maner thereof is only foreknowne and predetermined by the Majestic on high, and that it is a unty incumbent on all so farr forth to have their house 4 in order, as consideratoly to deter- mine and dispose of all there outward estate, consisting in Heredetamente. Elizabeth Stone my loving wife shall be my true and sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament. and that woont any intanglemt or snare : the legacies given to herself being firstly possessed, all ion every of them as they follow. and the after legacies to be made good out of y. remayneing ostate if sufficient, otherwise a distribution according to that proportion. yet if there happen any overpluss to be wholly and solely at the disspose of my sayd wife. Allso I give unto my sayd wife (duroing the terme of her life) half my houseing and lands w Lin the liberties of Hartford and to have the free dispose of the value of the sayd halfe of my lands at the time of her death. by legacy or otherwise. Allso farther it is my will and I doe freely give unto my wife all the houshold stuff that I had wth hier when I marryd her. to be at her full and free dispose as shee shall see cause, other gifts which are more casuall appeare in the legacies following,


Itt: Allso as my last will and Testament and in token of my fatherly loue and care. I doe freely give and bequeath into my son Samuel Stone at the time of my deceasse the other halfe of my houseing and lands w in the liberties of Hartford afoarsaya, and the other halfe of the houseing at the time of the death of my sayd wife, freely wwout any valuable consideration to be in any wise required, as allso the other halfe of ye Land, but upon a valuable consideration as before premised in the Legacy given to my deare and louing wife. Allso farther I doe freely giue unto my syd sonne all my Bookes excepting such as are otherwise disposed of in this my sayd last Will and Testament; But, provided my sonne Samnell departe this life before he is marryed, that then the whole of this my present legacy remayneing shall returne to and be wholly at ye disspose of my sayd louing wife.

And farther whereas the lIon- oured Court of this Colony were pleased to giue or grante a farme uuto me, acknowledging there favoure therein and requesting them to assigne the same unto my sonn and deare wife in some conuenient place, where they may receive benefitt by it, to whom I do freely give the same indifferently both for the present benefitt and future disspose :


And farther itt is my desire that such of my manuscripts as shall be judged fitt for to be printed, my Reverend Friend, M: John Higginson pastor of the church of Xuat Salem may haue the peruseall of them, and fit them for the press, especially my catechisme.


And that my louing wife may have some direct refuge for aduise and helpfullness in all cases of difficulty in and about all or any of the premises my great desire is that my Breth- eren and friends Mr Mathew Allyn, Broth. SAMUEL STONE, of Hartford. Conn .. never was married. He was educated for the ministry, and preached some time at Simsbury. Conn .. and afterwards at Wethersfield, Conn.


Rev. Samnel Stone died in Hartford, October. 1693. The man- ner of his death is narrated in the following words :


October 8, 1693, at 9 o'clock in the evening, Mr. Stone came from Henry Howard's house, and falling down the bank of the Riverlett, some small distance eastward bevound the rayles of the bridge, that crosses the sayd riverlett on the south side of the sd River. received severall wounds upon his head which was the occasion of his death.

SAMUEL STORRS, the emigrant, was son of Samuel Storrs, and came from Sutton, Nottingham County, England; he was twice married, I, at Barnstable, Mass., December 6, 1666, to Mary Huckins, daughter of Thomas Huckins; she was born March 29, 1646, and died September 24, 1683; 2, to Esther Egard, Decem- ber 14, 1685.


Mr. Samuel Storrs died at Mansfield, Conn., April 30, 1719.


His widow, Mrs. Esther Storrs, died April 13. 1730, in the 89th year of her age.

He left the Island near the commencement of the Revolutionary War, and was absent from his charge from August, 1776, to June, 1782. Ile was dismissed April 13, 1787. [Rev. Mr. Prime's History of Long island.] " After his dismission, Rev. Mr. Storrs came back to Mansfield, and preached for a time to a congregation in North Wind- ham, as a supply." [Rev. A. S. Atwood, of South Mansfield.] Rev. John Storrs was twice married. 1. To Eunice Howe, widow of Dr. Ilowe, of Mansfield and daughter of Col. Shu- bael Conant, of Mansfield, by whom he had a son Richard Salter Storrs, who was settled in the ministry at Long Meadow, Mass. Ilis son, bearing the same name, is Pastor of the church in Braintree, Mass., and his son bearing the same name, is settled over a church in Brooklyn, N. Y. [Zalmon Storrs, Esq., of Mansfield. ]

SAMUEL TERRY, of Springfield, Mass., (where he appears first, about 1654,) was twice married. 1. To Ann Lobdell, daugh- ter of - - Lobdell, of -, 1660. She died -. 2. To Sarah Scott, 1690. Mr. Terry removed to Enfield about 1700, probably after that year.

SAMUEL TERRY, of Enfield, Conn., was twice married. 1. To Hannah Morgan, daughter of Miles Morgan, of Springfield, 1682, being the first marriage in the settlement. She was born 1656, and died January 7, 1698. 2. To Martha Credan, daughter of - Credan, of 2 Mr. Samuel Terry died in 1730. Mrs. Martha Terry died May 29, 1743.
