Population, 9,000. The judicial seat of Walton county, is an incorporated town, 80 miles east of Pensacola on the P. & A. division of the L. & N. R. R., and the center of a system of good graded clay-sand roads leading in prac- tically every direction. It is the edu- cational center of this portion of the state, having a $30,000 graded high school, Palmer College, Thomas Indus- trial Institute and the Florida Chautau- qua, for which there is a commodious auditorium. The moral tone of the town is excellent, the churches of many de- nominations being represented. The climate is pleasant at all seasons, due to high elevation and proximity to the Gulf. The people are noted for their progres- siveness, culture and hospitality. There are 2 banks with deposits close to $200,- 000, 2 newspapers, The Breeze and Her- ald, several hotels, electric light and power plant, including ice manufacture, a saw and planing mill. Tel., W. Population, 4,000 Is an incorporated city and the seat of justice for Volusia county and is located 312 miles west of the St. John's river, and on the A. C. L. Ry., 108 miles south of Jacksonville. Has water works, an electric light and power plant and ice manufacture, 2 banks, 2 newspapers, The News, daily and weekly and The Record, weekly, a new $60,000 high school building, sev- eral hotels, a theatre, a library and a sanitarium. The John B. Stetson Uni-
versity is located here. There is an 18- hole golf course open to all visitors. The city is justly proud of its public buildings and beautiful homes. The Commercial Club has just completed a building for its use at a cost of $20,000. The county has an excellent system of good roads constructed of cement gran- itoid brick at a cost of $1,500,000.
