TALLAHASSEE
Tallahassee, the "Hill City of Flor- ida," is the capital of the state; it is also the county seat of Leon county and is situated almost midway be- tween Jacksonville and Pensacola, in North Florida. It is on the main line of the S. A. L. Ry., and the G. F. & A. R. R. Maurice Thompson, the well known author, describes the county of Leon as "beautiful rolling forest and field alternating; a
Pied- genuinely montese landscape, the like of which can not be found elsewhere in Ameri- ca." The Dixie Highway and the Old Spanish Trail Highway meet at Talla- hassee, and numerous fine hard clay roads invite the motorist to explore this rich and picturesque agricultural country. Around Tallahassee is the fin- est large game hunting in the state and both fresh and salt water fishing can be enjoyed nearby. Tallahassee's school

· system has long been famous, and the million-dollar Florida State College for Women is taxed to the limit of its ca- pacity, many pupils coming from dis- tant points, this year. There are no saloons in the capital city and the so- cial life is superior. The city has paved streets and owns electric light, water and gas plants. Has 5 strong banks, many substantial mercantile houses and important industries, 3 newspapers are published, the Democrat, daily and weekly, and the Florida Record, weekly. The Hill City Golf Club provides en- tertainment for lovers of the game. The course was planned by H. H. Bar -- ker, one of the foremost golf course constructors in this country, who for "several years was with the famous Gar- den City Club of New York; it has every variety of play, with three water hazards, and is the nearest to "real Massachusetts golf" in Florida. The course is laid out among beautiful hills and valleys and the fairways bordered with immense live oaks festooned with Spanish moss, present most charming and picturesque scenery. The many fine lakes and running streams amid the rolling fields furnish ideal condi- tions for fine stock and dairy farms. Western cattle men are becoming in- terested in Florida, and several Leon county ranches have recently changed hands. The S. A. L. Ry. has just built refrigerator cars to transport all the milk that can be shipped from Talla- hassee; this will stimulate the buying of more dairy herds. The winter cli- mate is like the glorious Indian summer of the North, the summer nights are cool and refreshing. The average crop growing season is 330 days. The quaint Capitol, the. Governor's Mansion, the former home of Prince Louis Napoleon Achilles Murat, son of the King of Naples, the tombs of the Prince and Princess Murat, the wonderful springs and the famous Wakulla spring near Tallahassee, will repay a visit to these points of interest. The Tallahassee Boosters' Club is a live organization
carefully fostering the interests of the city. The future of this section will be limited only by the efforts put forth by its people. Nature has done her best for Tallahassee and Leon county. Tel., W. U. Telephone connection. Exp., Sou. George I. Davis, postmaster.
