FAIRFAX. £ Is mercly a country postoffice in Clear Creek township, Monroe county, 14 miles south of Bloomington, the county seat, and 4 northeast of Guthrie, on the L. N. A. & C. Ry. In the vicinity there is a Methodist church. Mail weekly. F. H. Clendenin, postmaster.


FAIRFIELD. On the east fork of White Water river, in Franklin county, is a place of some 350 inhabitants, situated 7 miles north of Brookville, the seat of jus- tice, and shipping depot. The river sup- plies power for operating one saw and two flour mills. The village contains two churches, Methodist and Universalist; daily stage route to Brookville, fare 35c -- and Liberty, fare 5oc. Mail daily. T. W. Hay- ward, postmaster.
