LIGONIER, Is an entrpricing vil- lage of 2,500 inhabitants, on the L. S. & M. S. (Air-line division) Ry., in Perry township, Noble county, so miles north- west of Albion, the county seat. The vil- lage has a good healthy location, and is surrounded by a good agricultural district and a large supply of excellent timher, which is manufactured very extensively by seven saw mills, four planing mill, pole factory, furniture and handle factories. It has in addition to its lumber interests a cooperage, pump factory, agricultural im- plement manufactory, wheat heater factory and two Hour mills. Ligonier has excel- lent educational and religious facilities, good business blocks, wide streets, which are lined with shade trees, two hotel-, two banks and one weekly newspaper- - Ligonier Banner. It exports in addition to its inan- ufactured articles a large quantity of grain. The United States Express and Western Union Telegraph companies are located here. Mail is received daily. Hiram M. LOGAN. Known locally as Logan Cross Roads, with a population of 75, is situated in township of same name, Dear- born county, 14 miles northwest of Law- renceburgh, the county seat, and 5 miles west of Harrison, on the W. LOGANSPORT. With a popula- tion of 14,000, is an enterprising city, and the seat of justice for Cass county. The plat of the village was first recorded in 1828, and in the following year was selected

as the capital of the county. Prior to Imit the growth of the city was gradual, bres since then has been growing rapidly. it situated on the Wabash and Ech fisk which afford fine water power to pperis. paper mill, flax mill, linseed off mill, woolin mill, tannery, and several flour malls. i streets are wide and clean, regularly out, crossing at right angles, bordered wmi. shade trees and lighted with gas. The churches will compare favorably with th . of any other city of equal size in the site. and are 17 in number, with the following denominations: Baptist, Methodist, Caff. olic, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Christian, and German Reform. The city is provided with excellent water works, erected in 1876, at a cost of $175,000, hav- ing 9 miles of main, has high school, four ward schools, and a business college, good county buildings, substantial blocks, and handsome residences. The principal hotels are the Murdock, Hicks & Cunningham, props, and Barnett House, Barnett & Sons, props, both centrally lo- cated, and are perhaps surpassed by none in the state in point of accommodation. The Gehring and Windsor and City Hotel will also be found very comfortable. There are two banks-one national and one private. The press is represented by two daily and three weekly newspapers. The dailies are known as The Pharos (Demo- cratic), and Journal (Republican) ; week- lies as Pharos, Journal, and Chronicle ( Inde- pendent). Logansport has excellent rail- road advantages, being traversed by the second and third division P. C. & St. L. and W. St. L. & P. R. Rs .; is the western ter. minus of Eel River division W.
