HELENA STATION. In Mason county, 13 miles from the county-seat, and 143 from Louisville, is this village of 50
people. It is on the K. C. R. R., and has 1 corn-mill, 1 church, 1 school, and ships tobacco and wheat. Adams Express. Daily mail. II. C. Hawkins, postmaster, rail- road and express agent.
HELM'S MILL. With 25 inhabi- tants, is a post-settlement, in Russell county, 8 miles from Jamestown, the county-sent, and 5 miles from Creelsboro, the usual shipping point, on the. Cumber- land river. Mail semi-weekly. W. P. Payne, postmaster.
HENDERSON. Situated on the left bank of the Ohio river, 10 miles south of Evansville, Ind., and midway between Louisville and Cairo, Ills., is this city, the seat of Henderson county. It is the northern terminus of the St. L. & S. E. div. of L. & N. R. R., 145 miles from Nashville and 171 from St. Louis, and is the central point in navigation of a number of river routes, among them the Ohio, Mississippi, Wabash, Cumber- land and Tennessee. It is also a point of landing for regular lines of steamers, connecting Cincinnati and Louisville with Memphis and New Orleans, as well as for smaller boats which are constantly arriving and departing. Corn is grown in large quantities around Henderson, but its prin- cipal article of export is tobacco. There are 16 large stemmeries in operation, which shipped for the year 1880, 7,800 hhds. tobacco (over 15,000,000 pounds), the major part of which found a market in Europe. Coal is also an important article of export and is extensively mined. An abundance of hard wood timber is to be found in the neighborhood, which offers excellent in- ducements, in point of cheapness, to manu- facturers who use such material. The city has an assessed valuation of $2,500,- 000, and a bonded debt of $590,000, and is lighted with gas, and employs a regular police force. Many of its private resi- dences are costly and elegant, and its in- habitants are industrions and enterprising. It has an excellent system of water-works erected at a cost of $100.000. Its public school building cost $56,000, and is complete in all its appointments. Italso has twoexcel- lent newspapers, the Henderson Reporter, weekly and tri-weekly, and The Hender- son News; 10 churches, 2 banks, 4 good

HENDERSON'S MILL. Is a sparsely settled place and country post- office, in Marshall county, 10 miles south- east of Benton, the county-seat. Ship to Paducah, either via Ohio River or P. & E. R. R., or to Aurora, the most conveni- ent point on the Tennessee river, 7 miles east. Mail tri-weekly. R. W. Henderson, postmaster.

HENRY. Small post-office in Mor- gan county, 6 miles from West Liberty.
HICKMAN. On the Mississippi river, 40 miles below Cairo, Ills., 200 above Memphis. Is the county-seat of Fulton, ana is the north-western terminus of the N., C. & St. L. R'y. Trains connect with steamers for Cairo, St. Louis, and points on the river. This town is now in a more prosperous condition than it ever was. A. good opening is presented here for a bank. Settled in 1833, it was incorporated as a village in 1837, and as a city in 1853. It has a weekly newspaper. 5 churches, and a public school. The Hickman Lumber Manufacturing Company employ 75 men and manufacture lumber and furniture to a considerable extent. The Hickman Oil Company have recently completed their works at a cost of $60,000. The wagon- works of the celebrated Hickman Wagon Company will, probably, turn out some 2,000 this year. These last works give em- ployment to nearly 100 men. It also has & plow and wagon factory, 2 flouring-mille, 3 cotton gins, and 2 good hotels, the chief of which is the Planters' House, recently reopened.
