It has 4 churches. viz., Presbyte- rian, Christian, Baptist, and Methodist (colored ) ; also an excellent court-house, a national bank, with a capital stock of $150,- 000, a female college, a common school, a weekly newspaper, the Kentucky Visitor, and 8 hotels. the principal one being the Lancaster Hotel, under the competent charge of Capt. W. S. Miller, who is a practical hotel-keeper, familiar with all the wants of the traveling public, and has a knack of making his visitors feel perfectly at home. LAUREL CREEK. Known as Hubbardsville, in the northern part of Clay county, 63 miles north of Manches- ter, the county-seat, 35 south-west of Liv- ingston, its nearest shipping point, on the L. & N. LAWRENCEBURG. The county. seat of Anderson county, is incorporated, and has a population, according to the census of 1880, of about 800. It is lo- cated 14 miles south of Frankfort, the shipping point by rail, and 4 miles west of Tyrone on the Kentucky river. It has a steam flouring-mill, 7 churches. 4 white and 3 colored, 25 distilleries, Jarge and small, an $18,000 court-house, a bank and 3 hotels. the prominent one being the Anderson House. There are a number of wholesale houses here, prominent among which is the house of R. S. Lyons & Co., wholesale liquor dealers, one of the most reliable firms in the State, as well as one of the most prosperous. It also has an en- terprising, public-spirited newspaper, the Anderson News, which is well supported by the people of the county, of which it is the official organ, and is looked upon as authority on all matters pertaining to the interests of the county and its manufac- tures. Daily stages to Frankfort, Har- rodsburg, Versailles and Lexington. Whisky is the leading export. Daily mail. C. W. Williams, postinaster.
