1. CRUTTENDEN, ABRAHAM (1), b. in 1610, came from Cranbrook, England, landed at New Haven, Ct., about the 10th of July, 1639, with his first wife, Mary Hinkson. They were married about 1630 and probably their first three children -- Thomas, Abraham and Mary -- were born in England. This family belonged to the better class of immigrants, as the honorable prefix "Mr. " is attached to their names and that of "Gentleman" is used when deeds of land were made. She was dau. of Zephaniah and Rachel (Wood) Lathrop, b. Jan. 8, 1799 at Hawley. They settled in the part of Haw- ley known as Bozrah. He d. Jan. 1,1867, she d. July 1, 1850, both buried in Hawley. In 1834 Mr. Crittenden bought the Oliver Edger- ton house, which was built in 1807. Oliver Edgerton "went west" to Brecksville, Ohio, in 1831or 1832, where he d. in 1849. A num- ber of Hawley people had moved to Sheldon, N. Y. at about this time. Simeon's sister, Lucretia Rogers, had gone there. There is a town of Crittenden, near Batavia, in New York State, settled by Hawley Crittendens. See 'Biographical Sketches.' Children: all b. at Hawley:

ley became the Brimmer home, always open to artists and writers, among them Kate Upson Clark. The house burned on Dec. 2,1907.


House built in 1807 by Oliver Edgerton, bought by Dea. Simeon Crittenden in 1834, occupied by his son and dau. Charles and Rebecca Crittenden until 1893, Sold to Austin Balduc, burned late in Nov., 1907.

Aug. 17, 1758, and d. Sept. 14,1843 at Hawley. Her fa- ther, Allen Bangs, was a Revolutionary soldier of Brewster and South Dennis. Ebenezer and Phebe Crowell settled in Pudding Hol- low in the Fall of 1794. Ebenezer Crowell enlisted in April, 1775, in Capt. Joshua Gray's Co. In May, 1778, he entered on board a ship of war at Boston, in 1779 he sailed as a Marine on a cruise to West Indies. From April, 1781, he was Capt. of a schooner and in May, 1781 while engaged in transporting military stores from the French fleet to Providence, R. I., his vessel was taken in the night by four British ships and he and his crew were carried as prisoners of war to Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was exchanged in Sept. , 1781 and returned home. He d. Dec. 23,1831, at West Haw- ley. After his death his widow was allowed a Government pension at the rate of $26. 02 per annum. Children:

Mar. 21, 1904. Capt. Ebenezer Crowell served in the War of 1812 in Capt. Joseph White's Co. of the Mass. Militia. He, with his wife and first four children, removed to Ci- cero, N. Y. in 1820. With them went his brother, Allen Crowell, and his sister Erede (or Ereda) with her husband, Seth Hall. See Hall records. Capt. Ebenezer Crowell d. at Cicero, N. Y., Aug. 2,1872. Children:
